Following on from the cordless thread.
I am looking for a new vacuum, (and washing machine, dryer, iron 😂😭) my old dyson is usless, dc40.
I really liked my dc07 upright for power, versatility and reliability. However it eas ancient, broken and too heavy.
Are there any good vacuums out there that can deal with dog hair, very long hair, muck and dirt (kids) and occasionally cleaning the decking.
I've looked at shark and dyson butvreviews seembto be either great or crap. My dc40 has all the suction of an out of breath smoker 😂

To be fair I have a cordless Dyson V10 and I think it’s great. I don’t use it in a once a week traditional hoover session, but it’s used several times a day for a quick whizz round and it’s perfect. You don’t need a big hoover if you keep on top of it all.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 04/09/2020 07:48

I have THREE broken Dysons in the shed. Pieces of shit!

Got a Sebo, never looked back.

Emeraldshamrock · 04/09/2020 07:52

I don't like that the dyson doesn't have adjustable suction mine is miele it is great.
DS hates the sound of a vacuum I need to keep it on low setting.
As for a replacement washing machine I love my new Samsung it is fab.

CallarMorvern · 04/09/2020 08:03

I have a 15yr old Miele, it's been dreadfully abused through a few house renovations and it still works brilliantly. I didn't know about the new regs, I'd better start looking after mine then!
It's not hugely eco friendly if you have to hoover a carpet twice instead of once, also demanding more out of a lower powered motor will probably affect longevity too, so again not great for the environment.

CallarMorvern · 04/09/2020 08:06

Re. replacement washer, I bought a Siemens about 8mths ago, it is brill. It's predecessor was also a fab Siemens. Ebac is also worth a look, made in Britain too, I couldn't get one where we live, but would have considered one if we could.

Ginfordinner · 04/09/2020 08:09

Sebo. Previous vacuum was a Mercedes. Both excellent.

jcurve · 04/09/2020 08:09

EU put limits on power consumption so we dont destroy the planet quite so quickly.

Of all the things that could make a tangible impact on energy consumption, vacuum cleaners really aren’t going to change the dial. More useless meddling at the consumer level without forcing the true culprits to change their ways.

jcurve · 04/09/2020 08:12

We have a pre reg change Cat & Dog which is brilliant. In my old rental flat, it was so powerful it changed the carpet colour the first time we used it!

Longdistance · 04/09/2020 08:14

We’ve a Meile cat and dog. My dh bought it before he met me, I think it must be nearly 20 years old. I prefer the Dyson, but that’s losing suction now 😩

BuddhaAtSea · 04/09/2020 08:18

I just bought a Henry cat and dog. It’s really really very good for what I need, but I don’t have stairs, so that makes it easier.

Suction is fantastic, and it was only about £130. Compared to my Dyson, that is. I still use the Dyson for crumbs, car, or a quick tidy before bed.

The attachment on the new Henry are a bit flimsy compared to an old Henry, but you know what, it’s fine.

AntsInPenzance · 04/09/2020 08:18

@Vodkacranberryplease

Blame the EU. They kept forcing them to be made less and less powerful. I've got a Miele cat and dog that could lift carpet stashed away and even though I've got another newer Miele I'm keeping it because they don't make them like they used to!

fucking meddling beaurocrats. People as kid rate the Henry for suction power too. Dysons lose suction too

Don't peddle the EU myth. Wattage, which was limited to 900w, is not linked to suction ability. The EU regs also demand better durability from the components.
AntsInPenzance · 04/09/2020 08:24

EU regs limit wattage to 900 watts, most main brand domestic vacuums are around 300 watts.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/09/2020 08:30

I have vax upright one and I am really happy with it. Cheap as chips compared to many others and works great!

I second the EU explanation. The fact that hoover had high wattage did NOT mean it had good suction...

Heidi1976 · 04/09/2020 08:38

My Shark hair wrap has literally changed my life. I LOVE it.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 04/09/2020 08:52

I've got a bosch athlet which is great, I've had it for about five/six years I think. I have a cat, and it copes with her hair and half crunched biscuits well.
When I got it I thought it would be a back up, but haven't used my big Dyson since.
A friend bought a Dyson cordless at around the same time - it was about twice as expensive and he's had to replace it at least once. (but his current one has a detachable bit with no long handle that I keep meaning to borrow for my car).

Houseplanted · 04/09/2020 09:37

I’ve had a few - Dyson, Vax, Shark. Henry is the best by a long way, has lasted longer than any other I’ve had and still works perfectly.

Elephantday82 · 04/09/2020 10:03

I’ve got a Sebo it’s 2000 watts and amazing but you can’t get 2000 watt hoovers any more. I’m really looking after it. I have 2 shark cordless which are great and I use the every day But still use the proper hoover once a week.

NibbleCushion · 04/09/2020 15:47

I'd love a Henry Hoover. Long lead, tidy, nice face and just a great vacuum.
My landlady has one, I borrow it sometimes. I don't like giving it back!

mbosnz · 04/09/2020 15:53

Miele cat n dog here - cat and two longhaired teenaged daughters, who seem to shed worse than any dog, and their hair seems to embed itself in the carpet.

WouldBeGood · 04/09/2020 15:55

I have a Miele one which is great, but I do need to cut the hair out of the rollers every couple of times.

My friend has a new Shark one which stops this happening, and apparently actually works! I’m envious 😃

Namechange8471 · 04/09/2020 15:59

Shark lift away 👌

Greeneyes78 · 04/09/2020 16:35

henry!

CallarMorvern · 05/09/2020 21:24

EU regs limit wattage to 900 watts, most main brand domestic vacuums are around 300 watts.

I'm not at home to check, but fairly sure my Miele is 1800w.

CallarMorvern · 05/09/2020 21:33

And modern Mieles seem to be 890w, unless you are in the US where they are 1200w.

Emeraldshamrock · 05/09/2020 23:29

My modern miele could lift carpet on the highest setting, it's great on furniture on the low setting. I love how quick it retracts the cable too even from upstairs unlike the older Dyson it was so slow at retracting cable.
