Following on from the cordless thread.
I am looking for a new vacuum, (and washing machine, dryer, iron 😂😭) my old dyson is usless, dc40.
I really liked my dc07 upright for power, versatility and reliability. However it eas ancient, broken and too heavy.
Are there any good vacuums out there that can deal with dog hair, very long hair, muck and dirt (kids) and occasionally cleaning the decking.
I've looked at shark and dyson butvreviews seembto be either great or crap. My dc40 has all the suction of an out of breath smoker 😂

Miele cat and dog all the way!!

Paddingtonthebear · 05/09/2020 23:37

It’s weird because my Miele could also lift carpet up but it still missed picking up quite a bit of standard debris that it should have got easily. No issue with the Sebo. I maintain than an upright is just so much better on carpet. Miele was excellent when we had mostly hard flooring though and the odd bit of carpet/rug

pushananas · 05/09/2020 23:40

Most of them suck. Or not.

SwedishEdith · 05/09/2020 23:41

Miele again. Bottom of the range but very powerful.

NavyBerry · 05/09/2020 23:43

YANBU. I hate hoovers in this country. Henrys/hettys and other sh*. Absolutely useless heavy monsters. Drive me mad every time I have to clean the entire house

HappydaysArehere · 06/09/2020 00:05

@Shmithecat2

I've got the Dyson V11 Absolute, and its fab - I have 6 cats, and it does the job very well. Or, the alternative would be to buy a refurbished older vacuum - dh found me a refurbished, pre EU regs Miele Cat and Dog 2200W cylinder vacuum on Ebay.
Love my Sebo so much I bought another one as the first is so old that I thoughtBrexit might make replacing it more expensive. Keep one upstairs and one downstairs. Old one still going strong.

Nilfisk, elite, HEPA H14. Range of nozzles/attachments. Excellent for animal hair and craft glitter (!!). Beats everything else, hands down.

Saracen · 06/09/2020 00:46

You can get a very powerful workshop vac very cheaply. They are exempt from the wattage restrictions. We got a 1300 watt Titan wet and dry vac for £39 from Screwfix which sucks like nobody's business.

There are some drawbacks because it isn't intended for domestic use. It's very loud and doesn't come with attachments for cleaning curtains, for example. The attachments and hose supplied with this particular machine do let it down; they are flimsy and keep coming loose. We cut off our old Vax hose and shoved that onto it instead, which works great.

You can put the hose onto either the intake or exhaust, so you can use it as a blower, for example to get leaves off a deck. This also comes in handy when the hose is blocked, as you can often blow out the obstruction.

It's a great workhorse if you don't mind the noise of it.

Sharks are bloody useless. I stupidly have bought two and both are good for one room, then conk out and need their innards cleaning throughout, almost need pep talks and strokes ffs. Henry is the only one that works properly imo but it’s a pain for being heavy, roll-over and very poor cornering.

eatsleepread · 06/09/2020 08:03

I certainly wouldn't get a Dyson or Shark.
The best is the Miele Cat & Dog. Or just Miele in general Smile

eatsleepread · 06/09/2020 08:06

A couple of people have mentioned smells from their hoover. One top tip is to soak a cotton wool ball with essential oil, and put it in the hoover bag or cylinder.

HelpOrHindrance · 06/09/2020 08:07

@GlassOfPimms

Hope there's something better than the awful second hand Dyson I was given by my DM recently. It was absolutely useless so I'd been looking at a new one but like you, OP I'm put off by the reviews.

I'm now hanging on to my ancient, heavy, upright hoover for dear life! It's so powerful it actually pulls up my underlay if I'm not careful!!

Hi. Have you tried cleaning the filter?? my very houseproud mil complained her old Dyson didn't work any more. I looked at it and cleaned the filter. She didn't know there was one....I know!! Anyway I cleaned it and it sucked again!!
GoatsInBoats · 06/09/2020 08:07

I have an ancient Sebo. It’s great.

Buggedandconfused · 06/09/2020 08:24

Which is the best Miele Hoover? I’m tempted. My Dyson is rubbish.

pinkbalconyrailing · 06/09/2020 08:26

wrt smells
suck up a teaspoon if laundry powder first thing when you change the bag or empty it.

Yankathebear · 06/09/2020 08:28

Shark lift away is amazing. I hated dyson, it seemed to hate dog hair.

dewisant2020 · 06/09/2020 08:30

I love my Henry anything you put it in it's way it will suck up

Vgbeat · 06/09/2020 08:43

I've recently bought the amazon basics vacuum after ours broke suddenly and i needed a quick replacement and its amazing. On the highest setting it was literally pulling our carpets up and the best bit it was only 40 quid.

TeaAndHobnob · 06/09/2020 08:55

Sebo.

Like others I'm amazed how long a bag lasts. Had for six years, good as new. It's the canister type as we mostly have hard floors rather than carpet.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/09/2020 09:31

Miele cat and dog - I've got a dust allergy and can't have bagless. I bloody love it - had one for years but ex got it in the divorce so I've bought a new one. It sucks the carpet off the floorboards as PPs have said.

FOKKYFC · 06/09/2020 09:32

Can't do better than a Henry. So what if you have to lug it up and down stairs. Adds to the workout.

FOKKYFC · 06/09/2020 09:34

They're cheap because they're essentially a motor on wheels. There's a reason schools, cinemas, leisure centres and hospitals still use them. Peerless.

Buggedandconfused · 06/09/2020 09:38

@BatshitCrazyWoman which one did you buy?

LuaDipa · 06/09/2020 09:45

My Miele cat and dog was amazing, had it for years. But my son managed to break it. Went to order another exactly the same and it seems that Miele no longer make an upright. I was devastated but went for the Sebo. It is much lighter to lug around but equally good. I love it. And it has a little light on the front so you can see just how grubby your floors are!

Emeraldshamrock · 06/09/2020 09:56

Mine is Miele complete C3 extreme powerline. It is 2 years old with great suction.
