Following on from the cordless thread.
I am looking for a new vacuum, (and washing machine, dryer, iron 😂😭) my old dyson is usless, dc40.
I really liked my dc07 upright for power, versatility and reliability. However it eas ancient, broken and too heavy.
Are there any good vacuums out there that can deal with dog hair, very long hair, muck and dirt (kids) and occasionally cleaning the decking.
I've looked at shark and dyson butvreviews seembto be either great or crap. My dc40 has all the suction of an out of breath smoker 😂

And it has a little light on the front so you can see just how grubby your floors are!

My Gran's upright Hoover (actual Hoover brand, with a canvas bag on the back) in the 70s had a light on the front of it, I had a toy one that was minute version which also had a light.

GladAllOver · 06/09/2020 14:27

The thing about those old upright Hoovers is they lasted forever. My mother had one for years that had been passed down from her mother.
Now when you hear "I've had several Dysons" you know they aren't made to last.

@Buggedandconfused the Miele are all pretty much the same, the cheap ones you have to manually turn a dial on the cylinder, expensive ones there is an electric control on the stick bit. You also do or don't get a turbo power head included. They are good btw.

Sebo is brill too, see what you can get a good offer on 👌

Buggedandconfused · 06/09/2020 22:01

@RandomMess Thank you, I just bought this one Miele 10660820 Complete C3 Cat and Dog PowerLine Bagged Vacuum Cleaner, 890 W, Red www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074P7X6MP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_33uvFbT4H3MYD?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Not impressed with my new cordless shark anti hair... I've gone back to the broken Dyson! Just doesn't manoeuvre well on all our stairs!

goldpendant · 06/09/2020 22:47

Do Sebo do a cordless?

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 06/09/2020 23:05

Our Henry is 17! They are still made in the uk too!

MakeLemonade · 06/09/2020 23:14

My Sebo pet X4 or something is brilliant. Over ten years old, just had a routine service and it’s like a brand new one again. Man in vacuum shop said he was frequently servicing ones that were 20-30 years old, proper workhorse of a vacuum! It is upright and corded and heavy but worth it.

That's the one we've got. I love it. Am hoping the Shark breaks soon, so I have an excuse to get rid. Stupid tiny canister, and just so badly thought out in terms of cleanliness.
frustratedstep · 07/09/2020 12:56

Definitely a Henry. Cleaners use them for a reason, and it's the only vacuum that can handle my 5 kids and dog lol

flirtygirl · 07/09/2020 13:20

I have a Hetty but only use every month for deep cleaning and to hoover the car, used to use all the time but got a cordless Bosch athlet, that I now use constantly as so light and easy.

The Athlet is just so quick and easy for hard floors. Hetty will always be needed though, for a deep clean, under sofa etc.

Would never part with Hetty.

flirtygirl · 07/09/2020 13:22

Also with the Athlet, my kids hoover without me asking. They loved Hetty but she was so heavy. My now 11 year old also had a Hetty of her own, a great toy which actually sucked up a little, she used to hoover her own bedroom from age 3.

bloodywhitecat · 07/09/2020 13:27

My Sebo X7 arrives tomorrow, I am looking forward to seeing how well it picks up.

Bwlch · 07/09/2020 13:29

Now when you hear "I've had several Dysons" you know they aren't made to last.

There probably a fashion/marketing element too. People want the latest one.

We have had one for years. It works fine, noting has fallen off but it's heavy. I bought a Dyson cordless and it is not very good at all so I snaffled my husband's 18v Makita one and that is much better, plus the spare batteries take less time to charge than the one you are using does do run out.

Bwlch · 07/09/2020 13:29

There is

BatshitCrazyWoman · 08/09/2020 06:07

@Buggedandconfused that's the one I have. I bought it in April/May for about £220, free delivery. I love it!

Eng123 · 08/09/2020 06:32

Having heard Dyson speak once I would never touch a product associated with that odious man.

Roselilly36 · 08/09/2020 06:38

I love my new cordless Shark with anti hair wrap, I was so skeptical when I brought it, but the anti hair wrap really does work. I was so fed up of cutting my hair out of the brush bar of my previous vacs. I have previously had dysons, gtech airram etc, but the Shark is the best I have found.

Tr1skel1on · 14/09/2020 22:35

@Tootsey11 thank you so much for suggesting the Henry turbo head.

I bought one and it's amazing! :)

My rugs have never looked better
