Following on from the cordless thread.
I am looking for a new vacuum, (and washing machine, dryer, iron 😂😭) my old dyson is usless, dc40.
I really liked my dc07 upright for power, versatility and reliability. However it eas ancient, broken and too heavy.
Are there any good vacuums out there that can deal with dog hair, very long hair, muck and dirt (kids) and occasionally cleaning the decking.
I've looked at shark and dyson butvreviews seembto be either great or crap. My dc40 has all the suction of an out of breath smoker 😂

Mercedes

We have an ancient Miele and a 5 year old one, the builders were in awe at how good the new one is despite it being restricted to the new power limits.

With Miele it's the same basic machine you just pay for more for electronic controls rather than twisting dials. The cat and dog is just the specific brush head it comes with.

notso · 02/09/2020 22:48

Another Miele fan, I had to have my stair carpet refitted as mine pulled it up!

MissSmiley · 03/09/2020 05:27

Miele for washing machine and dryer
Vorwerk vacuum will last you 20 years but you'll need to find £1600

eaglejulesk · 03/09/2020 06:06

I've loved my Henrys (2), but I'm now looking for a lighter upright cleaner for those in-between days (Henry loves to flip upside down!). Won't be retiring Henry though, he will still be pressed into service Smile

Natsku · 03/09/2020 10:50

I have a miele C3 I think, its works very well (and I like the power controls on the handle so I don't have to bend down whenever I want to adjust the power or switch it off for a moment)

derenstar · 03/09/2020 10:55

We have a Miele Cat and Dog too, bought it before the change of law came in. Love it. I treat it gently as I don’t want it to die on me!

Newfornow · 03/09/2020 22:45

Shark cordless is a good hoover but it is an attention seeking bastard and needs to be really well maintained In terms of filters and brushes cleaned weekly.

FaffingForEngland · 03/09/2020 22:54

@Goldistheanswer

We gave up on the Shark vacuum. It simply couldn’t cope with dog hair! Now gone back to our beloved Sebo and it’s a joy to vacuum again! It’s the upright model rather than a cylinder type but I can really recommend them. They last for years.
Yes. Our Shark is absolute shite. I emptied it 3 times just vacuuming downstairs the other day. Dust container the size of a tea cup, wafts of skin flakes and hair rising up when you empty it, clipping the filthy canister back in afterwards, and cleaning the filter makes me want to heave. The whole thing is so dirty. And so many stupid bits to it. DH hates it too.

My Sebo on the other hand is clean, powerful, solid and very very effective. Plus I have no idea how it does it, but the bag lasts for ages. And I love that you can seal it when it's removed, so no dirt anywhere.

theconstantinoplegardener · 03/09/2020 22:56

I've a Seba upright vacuum cleaner. It has good strong suction and copes well with the hair and debris from several children, a dog and a cat. I don't think it would do decking, mind, but it's great in the house - very low maintenance and on the rare occasions that it does block, the hose is in sections which can be separated so it's easy to clear.

theconstantinoplegardener · 03/09/2020 22:57

*Sebo

fruitpastille · 03/09/2020 22:59

My old cat and dog miele was brilliant but it gave up after about 12 years. The new one I've got is rubbish.

RainbowMum11 · 03/09/2020 23:04

I absolutely love my Shark for its power (although not so nice to see just how much it has picked up!!)

penberrh · 03/09/2020 23:05

When did the change of law come in? I have a 2013 Miele cat and dog (canister) which pulls the carpet up. Will really let you know which carpet fitters were good or not!

bluebirdsong · 03/09/2020 23:12

Henry

BeardieWeirdie · 03/09/2020 23:24

Henry.
My parents are still using the one they bought when I was a toddler 30 years ago.
Ours is 10 years old and copes will all manner of crap.

Chloemol · 03/09/2020 23:25

Henry or vax

Whitneylilyrose · 03/09/2020 23:49

Henrys are good and vax animal it's a purple one for 99 pounds in argos.

Dyson are overrated to me.

Paddingtonthebear · 03/09/2020 23:51

In recent years we’ve had Dyson, Shark, Miele and more.

Got a Sebo now. It’s a big, traditional upright and very powerful. Way better than the Dyson and the shark.

nicebreeze · 03/09/2020 23:56

@Vodkacranberryplease

Blame the EU. They kept forcing them to be made less and less powerful. I've got a Miele cat and dog that could lift carpet stashed away and even though I've got another newer Miele I'm keeping it because they don't make them like they used to!

fucking meddling beaurocrats. People as kid rate the Henry for suction power too. Dysons lose suction too

What a load of crap. Noisy, inefficient vacuum cleaners do no better than 900w vacuums. Good on the EU for trying to improve energy efficiency.
Paddingtonthebear · 03/09/2020 23:57

And yes the bags last for ages. 6 months before I had to replace the first one. Has snazzy lights at the front so you can see what you are doing and leaves great carpet lines. 😀 We have the x7 pet, got it on offer in John Lewis.

Went to a holiday let recently and had to use a Henry. It kept falling over. Hopeless. My sister says she hates hers.

I did a bit of research before we got the sebo. If you look online at any vacuum specialist forums they all say Sebo are the best built and least likely to need repair.

Currys employee told me that Shark is the brand that is most returned out of anything they sell in store.

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2020 23:58

Yet another vote for the Miele Cat & Dog C3. I've also got a cordless but it's nowhere near as good as the Miele.

Paddingtonthebear · 04/09/2020 00:01

We had a Miele c3 that was good on hard floors but lost suction and was hard work when we moved to a house with lots of new carpet. I think uprights are better for carpet.

Paddingtonthebear · 04/09/2020 00:01

Was c3 power line not the cat and dog though

shinynewapple2020 · 04/09/2020 00:16

Hmm
Have just purchased a new Dyson as my Henry has started to really annoy me as he keeps falling over and knocking into things , also smells after use.

From this thread I think we're going to be disappointed. It was expensive as well.
