To feel not witty enough for Mumsnet, but too witty for Netmums

They should make another middle of the ground site for people like me. 😂 Is it just me, or do people on Mumsnet seem more "middle class" than people on Netmums?

Well, except ‘did you mean to be so rude’ was never meant to be a searing response?
It was suggested as a way to deal simply with passive aggressive digs. There were many posts, often about MILs making snarky remarks.
‘Did you mean to be so rude’ was offered as a way to politely point out the aggression in the passive aggression. It sort of forces the protagonist either has to say ‘god no, sorry’ or ‘yes, I think you’re a shit mother, parent, wife etc etc’

Skyliner001 · 02/09/2020 22:27

I've yet to find a witty MN-er

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 22:34

Did you mean to be so rude?
Except when it’s recommended or employed on mn it’s always seen as the Exocet missile of all put downs
BOOM! It renders adults agog too stunned to answer. Thus delivering a righteous victory to whomever said it
It relies on the recipient of the remark, being embarrassed and making a retraction
It makes no account of someone not being bothered about perceived rudeness

midsomermurderess · 02/09/2020 22:34

Thanks for explaining that🥴

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 22:41

Many are unintentionally funny, they’re the best actually

DillonPanthersTexas · 02/09/2020 22:44

Who thinks 'did you mean to be so rude?' is a searing response? You hardly see it now, because it is so silly

There are still people here who like to write scripted responses for an OP venting about some arse at the school gates. They honestly think they are being devastatingly witty and that the recipient of said response will crumble in humiliation and shame where as the reality is that if you spoke to someone in such a patronising manner you will be called a twat midway through the second sentence and probably slapped by the third.

ChickenFriedFudge · 02/09/2020 22:45

I love mumsnet and cannot stand NetHuns. I'm a copper earning 25k with 4 GCSE's. I find MN to be the most diverse, thought provoking and inspiring place on the internet. My DSis used to work here (waves at MNHQ) so 7 years ago I fell into the boards and haven't been able to unstick myself since.
When I left my ex I started a thread and the advice I got changed my life. I honestly don't think you would get that on NM.
People are horrible to step parents though....

ILoveFood87 · 02/09/2020 22:46

Don't agree having a tutor is middle class they are very reasonably priced.

ChickenFriedFudge · 02/09/2020 22:48

Love that @WendyHoused ! Brew

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 22:51

Having a tutor is so middle class. Out of interest what you think is reasonable cost for a tutor
Tutors are usually to game the system eg get into a specific school

Or the tutors for music, that’s a frequent mention

My kids have never had tutors, ever

GreyShadow · 02/09/2020 22:57

I must be thick as mince because I can't find this other site! I googled the arsewell and got football forums, Arsenal!

Please give me another clue!!!

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 23:04

There are still people here who like to write scripted responses
⬆️ Yes very much so, big power monologues to be delivered to the source of their ire. In expectation that the person dissolves in a contrite heap
Actuality is they think your full of shite and give it back. Both barrels

giantangryrooster · 02/09/2020 23:14

@GreyShadow I've just hinted 19.23 and got deleted Shock.

PasstheBucket89 · 02/09/2020 23:49

Im intrigued aswell as Mumsnet and Netmums what is the 'other place'

GreyShadow · 02/09/2020 23:55

@giantangryrooster Matthew 19:23

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Oh good grief still can't find it!!

KitchenDancefloor · 02/09/2020 23:56

Ahhh, for ages I thought that the other place was netmums and I wondered why posters were being coy about naming it.

Now I've found why MNHQ don't want to draw attention to the other place.

They couldn't give two hoots about netmums though, totally different styles and demographics. I haven't been over there for a decade or more so it may be better, wittier and wiser by now.
From memory NM is a caramel frappe with vanilla syrup. MN is an espresso shot.

thewhitechair · 03/09/2020 00:07

@OneForMeToo

Isn’t babyandbump the middle ground? Not been there for years mind.
Ahh I used to love babyandbump 10 years ago when I was first pregnant. It felt a bit different to mumsnet- ‘profile pictures’ next to each username and signatures at the bottom of posts, often with those little ‘tickers’ of your baby’s age or weeks pregnant. There was quite a community feel and you’d quickly recognise posters. I logged on a few months back and it’s pretty much dead now.
GreyShadow · 03/09/2020 00:09

Now I've found why MNHQ don't want to draw attention

Why why dear god WHY!!!!!!

I can't freakin' find it! I've even gone to reddit to see if it's named!

I'm gonna be a disappointed when I do find it eh?

giantangryrooster · 03/09/2020 00:12

@GreyShadow 🤣🤣🤣
Oh you just made me laugh out loud.

Sorry it was 19.23 pm on this thread. I'm so sorry couldn't refer to the Bible even if I wanted to. But fgs pm me maybe we can find a way 🤣.

thewhitechair · 03/09/2020 00:13

@Sunrise85

I got banned from Netmums in 2013! All I did was say a mild swear word!!

I hated how a Netmums expert would come along and post on the thread offering their “expert” advice Confused with cuddly emojis.

Pretty sure all I said was “bugger off” to someone slating me for wanting a c section (or something like that) Grin

Actually that’s one thing I like about mumsnet is the conversations about birth are generally more intelligent and balanced, and when women post about wanting a c-section there’s mainly supportive responses from other posters. I’ve found on other forums or the FB ‘mummy’ groups there will be the overwhelming ‘OMG it’s dangerous major surgery why would you put yourself and your baby at a massive risk for no reason. Selfish!’ response.
thewhitechair · 03/09/2020 00:17

In trying to figure out what the other place is too?

Is it primarily a gossip forum by any chance? I’ve got a website in mind but it’s more gossip rather than a ‘mum’ forum so didn’t know if it counted.

giantangryrooster · 03/09/2020 00:19

@KitchenDancefloor Now I've found why MNHQ don't want to draw attention to the other place.

Why, I do not understand it, why?

KitchenDancefloor · 03/09/2020 00:20

I went back to the start and took the hints that had been dropped further up thread. It's a really obvious name once you cotton on.

Will you be disappointed? Well I spent about half an hour poking around. It has a lot of thread features that have been requested here for years, but it seems to be the same people having the same conversations, often triggered by a thread they saw here. Meh.

One poster in particular flounced off MN to complain that they didn't like the way that a thread was going only for the same conversation to happen there and they flounced off there too.

People are people where ever they gather. You'll always get the kind, genuine and funny mixed with the arseholes.

I'll be sticking it out here for the strictly, feminism and style and beauty threads. And the odd AIBU bunfight.

This post is going to get zapped isn't it?!
