To feel not witty enough for Mumsnet, but too witty for Netmums

They should make another middle of the ground site for people like me. 😂 Is it just me, or do people on Mumsnet seem more "middle class" than people on Netmums?

OP posts:

BIWI If you scroll down to the bottom of the thread, where it explains how to use the smiley faces, each one is explained. How could you not have seen this?

There is no such thing on the ipad app. Off to look at phone app Smile.

SBTLove · 02/09/2020 10:37

@Babyroobs
I think they are very self centred ppl and blind to any social issues and their main worry is getting Felix and Dotty into the best prep!
Yes we are all different but be aware of the differences and don’t assume we all order £600 curtains and ski every year!
I myself was a single mum to 3 very young kids, worked two jobs and managed to get to where I am but I never forget where I came from, too many posters blunder in with their middle class advice and seem incapable of understanding not everyone has savings and mortgages and £100k+ salaries.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2020 10:40

@RosieLemonade

Where does it explain which each emoji means. Biscuit just says biscuit. How would anyone know what that means. Asking someone to research a forum before they use it seems bizarre.
As far as I can see, there's no explanation of the emoticons on the app, but in the browser it gives the meaning of each one they show - the biscuit is labelled "no comment"
eaglejulesk · 02/09/2020 11:10

There are a few (and I mean a few) witty people on MN, but far more unpleasant bitchy types, along with those as have previously been mentioned who seem incapable of understanding there are people living very different lives to their own middle class ones. Coming from a country where class is not such a 'thing' I find it all a bit pathetic really.

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 11:45

@Babs709 yes at one point I recall stats on the mn demographic
Unsurprisingly majority were graduates and middle class who lived in SE and LDN

Also an academic paper reviewed Mumsnet members motives for joining and participating

Mumsnet census 2009 old but interesting data

teaandcustardcreamsx · 02/09/2020 11:58

When I searched the other place it came up with the RSC theatre in Stratford upon Avon GrinHmm. Although I have ventured over Netmums a few times and found it so confusing, I’ve been over to the other place a few times but still prefer it here

Pelleas · 02/09/2020 12:14

I once had a look at Netmums but I couldn't see anything there for the childfree poster. It definitely seems to have a more concentrated focus on pregnancy and childcare, whereas MN has a wide variety of topics. Nothing wrong with NM that I could see, but not the place for me.

PicsInRed · 02/09/2020 12:17

Is there anything more middle class than angsting over how middle class you are? 😂

Arsewell · 02/09/2020 12:25

@polnm Smile

@PicsInRed Eating salad from a wooden bowl is considered very middle class I believe

Lugubelenus · 02/09/2020 12:27

Mumsnet is the only forum I visit where people are still wittering on about class. I remember one thread where someone claimed they were middle class because they had a bean to cup coffee machine. Grin Grin Grin That made me laugh because of the sheer absurdity of the comment.

SBTLove · 02/09/2020 12:30

There’s two threads going on just now and the nasty arrogant comments are making me enraged.
Calling food bank users beggars and they’d should stop breeding if they can’t feed their kids.

badacorn · 02/09/2020 12:31

I am on this site because I enjoy the bluntness of the posts more than anything else.

You can be witty regardless of social class, don’t worry about that or your age.

DeeTractor · 02/09/2020 12:33

Is "did you mean to be so rude?" considered witty?

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 12:34

Yes you’ll get honest responses on mn that people wouldn’t directly say in RL
That has a high ouch factor, it can feel harsh on occasion, but my god it’s refreshing

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 12:37

did you mean to be so rude? Such a lame putdown
On mn it’s considered to be searing response,sure to reduce an adult to an apologetic heap

^did you mean to be so rude? Obvious answer, is yes I fucking did...and?*

Wheresthesanitygone · 02/09/2020 13:33

It makes me laugh that the site that can’t be named is dismissed as being full of Meghan haters, and only discussing Meghan, because of one thread on there, when I believe there are very similar long running threads on this site? Does that mean this site is full of racists and Meghan haters and should be dismissed?
Personally I’ve never looked at the threads on either site but I’m getting pissed off that I am being constantly branded racist by default on here because some people on a site I use don’t like one person.
It is possible to use more than one site for different things rather than resorting to endless cries of racist because somewhere different is seen as the opposition for some reason.

BIWI · 02/09/2020 13:35

Ah yes. You're quite right - apologies. I only use the desktop site so didn't realise they aren't explained on the mobile sites.

Flowers as an apology.

giantangryrooster · 02/09/2020 13:59

@BIWI Grin, but thanks for the flowers.

ChiaraRimini · 02/09/2020 14:18

I would love to know the actual demographic stats on MN users now. Didn't a lot of NM users come over when they had tech issues with their site? That 2009 data looks like it was based on an opt in survey so won't be representative anyway

Stripesgalore · 02/09/2020 14:32

I didn’t realise netmums was still going.

I worry more that Mumsnet is making me more evil. I’m not worried about my level of wit.

allhappeningatonce · 02/09/2020 14:46

When I was doing my teacher training & applying for jobs, my tutor told me to google the name of the school & mumsnet to figure out if it was any good or not 😂
Joined when I had bad morning sickness & thought I'd go once that passed but now I'm addicted 😂
Not too much experience with NM, seemed a lot more boring in the threads I saw when googling 👀
I've learnt a lot in my few weeks here, love finding out about lives that are so different to my own! I'm probably in a more NM demographic in terms of age & status atm but I do enjoy the intellect here & there's no harm in preparing oneself for a more upward mobile future 😂😂

nachthexe · 02/09/2020 14:51

You aren’t allowed to mention the other place because the lovely laydees that set it up went through a tiresome phase of posting tabloidesque ‘the truth behind mn! Mn is going under!

MellowBird85 · 02/09/2020 15:13

@MaskingForIt

What’s the difference between a Netmums user and a Mumsnet user?

About £30k and a Masters.

Well I’ve got an NVQ Lvl 3 and a £5 supermarket voucher in my purse and I’m staying put. Folds arms petulantly.
TheQueef · 02/09/2020 15:15

@polnm Shurrup.
1984more like Grin

RosieLemonade · 02/09/2020 16:03

There’s no explanation on the mobile site.
