To feel not witty enough for Mumsnet, but too witty for Netmums

They should make another middle of the ground site for people like me. 😂 Is it just me, or do people on Mumsnet seem more "middle class" than people on Netmums?

@ElizabethMainwaring

Well spotted Polnm!
Well they are now criticising the way in which Meghan planted flowers (not Harry just Meghan). But still not racist apparently
Tunnocks34 · 01/09/2020 23:51

Overall prefer MN. Never been on netmums but I do prefer the birth boards on BabyCentre.

ElizabethMainwaring · 01/09/2020 23:53

I'm going over to have a look!
I can't resist it!Blush

MilktheMilk · 01/09/2020 23:54

Why is the other place not allowed to be mentioned on here? I think I've just discovered it through googling...

ElizabethMainwaring · 01/09/2020 23:55

That was to Polnm

If you googled the other place you could be anywhere . Stay safe
VictoriousSockPuppet · 01/09/2020 23:57

@Thewhitefoxglove
Do you mean me??????

It’s hiding on the MM hate thread rather than the MN thread
MilktheMilk · 02/09/2020 00:02

@Polnm why is everyone talking in a weird way on here? I've definitely found the other place based on the arsewell clue and the Meghan Markle topic mentioned above. I'm just bemused why it's all so cloak and dagger on here, and why posts are being deleted.

I meant if you google the words the the other place it brings up an odd collection of stuff Across the world

MilktheMilk · 02/09/2020 00:09

@Polnm ok so I've just stumbled across some stuff which explains a lot. Say no more. I should be going to bed now but instead I'm going to peruse.

BIWI · 02/09/2020 09:02

@Itsjustabitofbanter

Definitely. I’ve not long come from netmums and I’m still finding my way round. I’ve been ripped apart on here by cliques over things I don’t understand. I’ve had shit for 2 days because I left a biscuit emoji on someone’s thread so I could find it again. Straight away I had messages telling me to fuck off, and how could I be so disrespectful posting a biscuit? No ones actually explained to me wtf a biscuits meant to mean

If you scroll down to the bottom of the thread, where it explains how to use the smiley faces, each one is explained. How could you not have seen this? You must have read it when you worked out how to post Biscuit!

BIWI · 02/09/2020 09:04

I believe there's an algorithm in place that automatically deletes mentions of at least two other places. I think the reason for it is because there's been a lot of trolling here from both of those sites.

SBTLove · 02/09/2020 09:07

MN can be middle class and it boils
my piss when I see posters completely unaware of anything outside their bubble, especially on threads of “I need to reduce my £900 pm grocery bill for 2adults and 2 primary kids” followed by oh that’s fine, I couldn’t manage on less, sneering at Aldi/Tesco.
Really oblivious that many ppl are living in a pittance.
And if anyone is contemplating leaving their DH, straight in with how to get finances settled, some women leave with the shirt on their back as there’s nothing to sort out!!

SBTLove · 02/09/2020 09:10

Oh and very London centric a lot of the time and carry on as if Scotland is some wee bumpkin place 10000s of miles away 😡

sitckmansladylove · 02/09/2020 09:40

SBT agree. I have a steady job now and thanfully comfortable but i have lived at the other end of the scale. It is laughable at times (stealth boasting too).

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 09:40

Well , if the Scottish can’t talk about reception places, catchment area or commutes to Ldn...Hell mend them

Camomila · 02/09/2020 09:49

I like mumsnet because there's so many different backgrounds on it.
I grew up on free school meals but did well at school and mumsnet is a nice anonymous place to ask career (or DC education) questions that I wouldn't ask my RL close friends about.

LockedInMadness · 02/09/2020 09:50

Well the algorithm didn't pick up my cunningly disguised mention of the other place yesterday, as I notice my post is still here. All because I missed out the middle . Grin🕵️‍♀️

Babyroobs · 02/09/2020 09:52

Yes agreed. I don't feel intelligent enough for MN, I just don't feel i can articulate my feelings on anything very well and just come across looking like an idiot. I got banned from netmums for swearing at someone who was drunk and abusive to me and whilst I am back on there now it is very infrequent because it seems to be full of people I can't really identify with.

Yes the subtle financial boasting on MN is pretty awful. How much do you save for your kids each month. I sometimes feel I'm living in a different world. I live on the outskirts of a big city where poverty is rife.
ToastyCrumpet · 02/09/2020 10:01

Hang. On. One. Moment.

I’ve got a masters (from a former poly) so where’s my 30K? It would be handy right now.

Also interested to know about the origin of the Biscuit I’m sure Gordon’s favourite is shortbread.

unmarkedbythat · 02/09/2020 10:02

MN has a greater than average representation of the well off, but it's never struck me as a place you need to be of above average intelligence or wit to hold your own. I often have wtf moments (the dismissal of a salary almost three times the national average as 'not that much', for example) but I have wtf moments on every platform I use.

Years ago, before I was a member of either, I routinely got MN and Netmums mixed up with one another :)

RosieLemonade · 02/09/2020 10:04

Where does it explain which each emoji means.
Biscuit just says biscuit. How would anyone know what that means. Asking someone to research a forum before they use it seems bizarre.

Babs709 · 02/09/2020 10:09

Are there any stats available on the demographic of mumsnet users? Maybe I’ll make some stats. I like stats.
