I cannot use tampons at all now since having my kids (they just feel so uncomfortable I can't tolerate them) but I use a mooncup easily and find it very comfortable.

taffy101 · 05/10/2007 22:56

spin i was grossed out at first but persevered as i realised how much better it was than fluffy tampons

FrannyandZombie · 05/10/2007 22:56

I am very squeamish spinspin and was scared about using it. I can only speak for myself of course, but it doesn't bother me at all. In fact I find it rather intiriguing

PMSL at wizard's sleeve.

AitchTwoOh · 05/10/2007 22:57

squicked

JudgeJudyAndExecutioner · 05/10/2007 22:58

Am puzzled as to why everyone seems so squeamish?

Mind you after giving birth 3 times a little blood every month is no big deal for me!!!

AitchTwoOh · 05/10/2007 22:59

couldn't agree more, JJ.

eggontoast · 05/10/2007 23:01

So if you have heavy periods...do they cope ok with that. Do they ever leak? Oh, and can you go swimming with one and fell confident?

I'm coming round to the idea.

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 05/10/2007 23:06

Mine are quite heavy TinyGang, but it's only leaked once due to poor positioning (had only been using it a couple of months).

Definitely fine to go swimming.

citylover · 05/10/2007 23:07

I love my mooncup wish I had known about them ages ago. My AF now ends with an abrupt halt on Day 4 which is fantastic (as I have a history of fibroids and very heavy periods). I am sure it has made my cycle shorter. Still very heavy on day 2 & 3 but the mooncup seems to cope with regular removal and emptying!

However I did lose my first one down the loo at work and have worked out the solution to this is to put some loo paper in the loo first! And if the loo has no handbasin then I take in a bottle of mineral water or bottle filled from tap to give it a rinse out.

At least two of my RL friends use them. We do discuss this sort of thing in some detail regularly. Are we weird?

However I don't use it at night (use a pad) or when mooching at home (as I didn't ever use tampons like that). it was the same when I used the cap always whipped it out as soon as poss. Like to keep the use of rubber in there to a bare minimum.

And I boil mine in a pan from time to time any old pan will do don't see a problem there if the water is boiling anyway.

lilolilmanchester · 05/10/2007 23:07

"It need emptying so infrequently you would probably rarely need to do it." - I doubt it in my case Taffy. Go through half a dozen megga super plus extra tampons a day (sorry if TMI), so not sure whether mooncups could cope. Will defo give them a try tho and thanks for tip re bottle of water CorBlimey (totally obvious when you think about it, but it's Friday and I'm brain dead!)

TinyGang · 05/10/2007 23:08

Hmmm....maybe then. They don't get stuck inside do they?

Where do you buy them from?

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 05/10/2007 23:09

Boots sell them, I think flamesparrow has them on her nappy site (bumfluffnappies), Franny sometimes bulk buys and sells them on here.

AitchTwoOh · 05/10/2007 23:10

weeeeell, interesting about teh heavy periods...
ask hunker for confirmation cos hers were very bad but i'd say my periods are/were pretty heavy (a super-plus girl, for sure) and my periods have actually got lighter. as for leaking, they've actually got teeny holes around the top of the cup so they're kind of designed to leak when they fill up, iykwim? i wonder if otherwise they'd fly off like a manhole cover in a flood?
and when it leaks (it's happened a couple of times) it's very little, so you have plenty of time to get to the loo. swimming, yep. it's weird, it's not like wearing a tampon, you don't think about it when its in, you just empty it every time you go to the loo.

SpookyBearistheSpookyBear · 05/10/2007 23:11

Are your DHs around when the mooncup is in

a) the pan

or

b) the dishwasher?

OP posts:
corblimeycharlie · 05/10/2007 23:11

I bought mine in my local Boots ( in a very small welsh town). If you can buy it here you can buy it anywhere.

AitchTwoOh · 05/10/2007 23:12

THERE IS NO BLOOD WHEN YOU BOIL IT!!! it's just a wee bit of silicone, you goon.

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 05/10/2007 23:12

Yes Spooky. Why, what's your point?

lilolilmanchester · 05/10/2007 23:13

hey TinyGang, maybe we should start a mooncup virgins thread? Am about to have my AF, will look for mooncup this weekend and give it a go.

ChasingSquirrels · 05/10/2007 23:15

I got mine on e-bay.
Today I totally forgot I had it in, mid-morning I though "oh I forgot to put it in", I was suprised I didn't have any blood as I am only on day 3 and still have some flow then, but went for a wee, no blood and forgot about it. Went for a wee early evening and realised it was in and that's why there wasn't any blood.
Seriously - so comfortable that I not only forgot about it but I didn't even realise when I went to the loo.

FrannyandZombie · 05/10/2007 23:15

My dp boiled mine for me last week. I wanted to put it in and I was really tired, so he did it for me

The mooncup does hold more blood than a super plus tampon. Quite a few people with very heavy periods have said it has helped them.

FrannyandZombie · 05/10/2007 23:16

oh, erm, when I say he did it for me, I mean the boiling. Not the insertion. That would be really lazy
