i so loved my mooncup, but it is no more it legged it down the lav, it is now being used as a sailing vessel by some smug water vole or summat

satine · 05/10/2007 22:37

Chankins - would you defend re-useable nappies, though, if one of your friends said "Re-usables? WTF????"

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/10/2007 22:37

OJ - dont fret, there is a happy crab out there somewhere

taffy101 · 05/10/2007 22:37

i could feel mine at first but got better at putting it ingood position. Leaked at first slightly due to positioning but never again.

They can be quite low but you can trim the grabby thing (am i putting you off).

Just remove it over loo and if it spills it just goes in the loo

FrannyandZombie · 05/10/2007 22:38

Can you feel it when walking around with it?

No, it is soft and pliable.

How do you empty it without spilling everywhere?

You just pour it out. If you can manage to put milk in your cornflakes in the morning then you can do it

It seriously doesnt leak?

Some people do have leaks when they are getting used to it. I think it is the most common problem at first, but can usually be solved by proper insertion. Mine has never leaked (fingers crossed) which is more than I can say for tampons

chankins · 05/10/2007 22:39

There's only so far I'll go for the cause! Spooky where are you ?
I compost too.
And grow my own veg.
Recycle etc
S'pose it is really cos it seems weird to me - maybe in a few years time we'll all have them and not think twice about it. Perfectly normal IMO to think WTF about tsomething thats new to you.

foofi · 05/10/2007 22:39

Just wondering - people who say they boil them, what do you boil them IN? Only ever rinse mine under the tap!

LittleBella · 05/10/2007 22:39

If I'd started using mooncups when I first had periods, I would probably have spent no more than £80 on sanitary products in the whole of my life (IE 4 of them maximum - I'm allowing for loss).

That must be cheaper than tampons

taffy101 · 05/10/2007 22:40

tampons always leaked for me. Don't have to empty mooncup as often even on heavy days (when you have developed the trust and confidence that it WILL NOT leak)

satine · 05/10/2007 22:40

Mine seriously doesn't leak, I can't feel it when I'm walking around because I don't have it that low, and it's quite soft and rubbery. I take it out over the loo, but as long as you hold it pretty much upright, removal isn't too messy.

Please do try one. Unless you really can't deal with blood, I'm certain you'll join the ranks of us evangelists!!

SpookyBearistheSpookyBear · 05/10/2007 22:40

dishwasher!! LOL.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/10/2007 22:40

Foofi - I think they boil them in water.

Gingerbear · 05/10/2007 22:41

You boil them in a pan of water, or you could poach gently in a bain marie if you prefer (I think this is what Nigella does with hers)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/10/2007 22:41

That's me fucked though - I cant pour milk in a cup of tea without causing a mini tidal wave.

chankins · 05/10/2007 22:42

Yes I would speak up for reusable nappies if one of my friends said WTF about them. Wouldn't call them childish though. Each to their own I say. I didn't use them on my first 2 kids, it took me til now to come round to the idea, and I'm glad I have - but mooncups, no thanks.

taffy101 · 05/10/2007 22:42

I use milton for mine

moljam · 05/10/2007 22:42

Gingerbear

foofi · 05/10/2007 22:42

What I meant was, I couldn't use a saucepan that I cook food in.

corblimeycharlie · 05/10/2007 22:43

I honestly wake up in the morning go to the loo and I've still not remember that I have my period. It never leaks and although the emptying it without dropping it in the loo does take practice there really is very little to it. (I see it as the really lazy persons solution to menstruation - no shopping, no worrying, no remembering) I do boil it once a month however - 5 Min's boil, even I can manage that.

Gingerbear · 05/10/2007 22:43

I feel slightly smug and left field in the respect that I have a keeper, which I purchased before mooncups were even invented so ner ner ner ner ner.

pooka · 05/10/2007 22:44

I've been kind of swayed by this thread. Think will purchase and see. PMSL at some of the FAQs, including "can it be worn during penetrative sex?" Has she seen a picture of the thing? Or more to the point, has her partner?

FrannyandZombie · 05/10/2007 22:44

I'm not cross! Yes a couple of people emailed me about The Document recently and I have forgotten to reply. Sorry, I will. Anyone who wants it, email and keep emailing until I do it. frannyandzooey ay india dot com

FrannyandZombie · 05/10/2007 22:46

Foofi you should sterilise in some way between cycles

I do use a saucepan and we already had a conversation about whether this was slovenly beyond belief

SpookyBearistheSpookyBear · 05/10/2007 22:46

Where do you boil it?

In a pan?
