To be annoyed that Ocado no longer stock Waitrose

I just logged in to do my online Ocado shop and found that they no longer have Waitrose products in stock. I knew this was coming but didn’t realise it was so soon! I love my Essential Waitrose stuff and don’t think M&S is a good swap personally.

I did log into Waitrose but they’re fully booked until Saturday, whereas Ocado can deliver tomorrow.

AIBU to think it’s a bit pants that Ocado no longer stock Waitrose and that Waitrose, knowing their contract was coming to an end, should have gotten their act together on the deliveries to coincide with this?

Anyway, as of today supermarket shopping got a whole lot less convenient!

Hasn't it been advertised for months? I'm sure I heard about it last year and I'm not an Ocado customer.

bluewanda · 31/08/2020 07:57

As I said, I knew it was coming but didn’t realise it was today!

I get you but you are probably going to get a load of heat about this being first world problem!!!

Incidentally M&S have a load of new stuff that's clearly meant as replacement for W essential stuff.

beela · 31/08/2020 07:57

It's a bit annoying, but I'm not sure why you are so surprised, they've been going on about it for ages.

Flamingolingo · 31/08/2020 07:57

Waitrose did get their act together, have been running ads in store, online and in their free magazine about being the only place to buy essential Waitrose for weeks now. They’ve invested in their fleet and infrastructure. I’d say the lack of slots is related to the change and people will be making the switch. Annoying if you don’t have a local Waitrose I suppose. I agree re: M&S food. I like some of their products but would struggle to do a weekly shop.

justoffshift · 31/08/2020 07:57

Oh come off it, they have been advertising the changeover date for ages

I log into Ocado on a weekly basis and have never seen an exact changeover date advertised. But then I have a busy life so don’t tend to pay too much attention to these things!

They announced in it February 2019, so people have had 18 months to get used to the idea!

Covid pressures meant that getting slots anywhere could be a rather tricky for a few weeks, but it's largely settled down now.

For all we know, Waitrose might have loads more slots in anticipation of Ocado customers still wanting regular or occasional Waitrose deliveries, but they could easily have been eaten up by the general increased demand this year.

Florencex · 31/08/2020 08:01

The date of parting company has also been advertised for months. If you knew it was coming you could have easily found out when.

I am looking forward to my delivery later this week with my M&S items. I like both Waitrose and M&S, some people may have a stronger preference for one.

I think I read Waitrose will be partnering with Deliveroo.

bluewanda · 31/08/2020 08:01

They’ve invested in their fleet and infrastructure.

Obviously not enough if there aren’t any deliveries till Saturday!

Well Ocado aren't going to publicise it are they!

Loads of media from both Waitrose and M&S and as pp have said, M&S now doing lots of copy cat products and Waitrose have significantly increased delivery capacity.

I think Waitrose are slightly victims of their own success - they've really pushed the marketing of the changeover so I imagine they've had more people ordering from them than they anticipated.
Nixen · 31/08/2020 08:03

They’ve been emailing about it for months. They announced the date of 1st of September ages ago and have literally been sending countdowns. YABU

EssentialHummus · 31/08/2020 08:03

I’m sympathetic in that I much prefer the combination of Waitrose with Ocado products and service, to m&s products, but as others have said we’ve had ages to get used to the idea.

bluewanda · 31/08/2020 08:04

I will begrudgingly stick with Ocado for now for the convenience I suppose, but I’m not a happy camper!

M&S stuff appeared on Ocado a month or so ago (though you could only add it to deliveries on/after 1 Sept, and Waitrose stuff has been winding down stock levels in the last few weeks (but not every line) and has been impossible to add to any deliveries after 31 August.

Even if you'd missed all the announcements in the press, you might have spotted some of the online publicity (including informal channels such as the MN threads!)

AdaColeman · 31/08/2020 08:04

How did you miss the daily count down notice board on the Ocado website, or miss the many emails about the changeover?

LittleBearPad · 31/08/2020 08:04

Oh don’t be dramatic. There have been numerous emails over the last few weeks from Ocado about this. Waitrose has been running ads all over print and social media about it too.

If it’s really that critical that you get Waitrose essentials stuff either wait until Saturday or go to Waitrose. Otherwise order the same stuff from Ocado under a different brand

bluewanda · 31/08/2020 08:05

I agree we’ve had ages to get used to it, but I’m still not! It’s the end of an era...

I can’t get a delivery tomorrow. But I have a pick off times from Wednesday onwards.
bluewanda · 31/08/2020 08:07

I can’t believe people (other than retirees) actually have time to open and read marketing emails from Ocado Grin And there’s not been any countdown on the mobile version of the desktop site.

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 31/08/2020 08:09

Agree it's the end of an era!

I went to Ocado in the first place because of the Waitrose link up.

And some products (despite promises otherwise) have disppeared (venison burgers) so I might feel the need to do the odd Waitrose shop.

Nixen · 31/08/2020 08:09

Right, so if you don’t read the emails, or follow their social media, how did you expect to be told? A knock on the door from the CEO making sure you were personally briefed so you could make sure you had stock of the Essential Waitrose Gnocchi before the 1st? Come on now 🤦🏼‍♀️

bluewanda · 31/08/2020 08:10

That would have been nice! Grin

I've had dozens of emails from Ocado, I use the app and the website and it's absolutely stated on both. Waitrose have been running adverts everywhere as well. The only one to blame if you weren't aware of the date is you. So yes, yabu. I imagine you can't get a delivery from Waitrose because other people who have been paying attention have booked their slots in preparation
