To be annoyed that Ocado no longer stock Waitrose

I just logged in to do my online Ocado shop and found that they no longer have Waitrose products in stock. I knew this was coming but didn’t realise it was so soon! I love my Essential Waitrose stuff and don’t think M&S is a good swap personally.

I did log into Waitrose but they’re fully booked until Saturday, whereas Ocado can deliver tomorrow.

AIBU to think it’s a bit pants that Ocado no longer stock Waitrose and that Waitrose, knowing their contract was coming to an end, should have gotten their act together on the deliveries to coincide with this?

Anyway, as of today supermarket shopping got a whole lot less convenient!

On the other hand my DM is excited she can order specific Gluten Free food for my Dad online for the first time. (I know other shops do GF now, but for a long time M&S were the best and he particularly liked some of their products, like pork pie).

I'm not sure who is going to lose more out of this, Ocado or Waitrose. Time will tell.

It has been warned for a long time, though. Reminds me of my response of people who speak as if summer holidays (and the challenge of staff cover) were a new thing- I remind them that holidays with pay became commonplace and legally required in the 1930s.

IslandLulu · 31/08/2020 08:13

I miss Waitrose

EnjoyingTheSilence · 31/08/2020 08:14

@bluewanda yabu but I love your last comment! 😆😆

GreySkyClouds · 31/08/2020 08:17

It has been advertised for months, and there has been a ticker counting down on the right side for at least the last month. Don’t think they could have done any mire band holding 🙄

Cancel and switch to Waitrose if you’d prefer.

Brocolibean · 31/08/2020 08:17

Now I can order M&S Jaffa cakes online...dangerous!

GreySkyClouds · 31/08/2020 08:18

*more hand holding

Danglingmod · 31/08/2020 08:19

Disagree re gluten free - Well, to clarify, M&S gf stuff is mostly NOT dairy free as well and we need both. All the other supermarkets are better for gf/df than M&S.

However, OP you are being v v u. It's been advertised for literally months, plus actual Waitrose products have been out of stock for a couple of weeks now anyway. And you are also being u to complain Waitrose has no slots until Saturday - it's normal to have to wait a few days for a slot if you don't have one booked, especially at the moment!

beela · 31/08/2020 08:19

@bluewanda

They’ve invested in their fleet and infrastructure.

Obviously not enough if there aren’t any deliveries till Saturday!

Or maybe all of the people who were fully aware of the changeover date have snapped them all up?
Sunshiney1981 · 31/08/2020 08:21

YANBU
I miss Waitrose too.
I’ve never been a fan of M&S (Oakham chicken - yuck and all those plasticy ready meals - yuck) but I’m going to give it a chance because I do love all of Ocado’s other brands and I’ve noticed that M&S have ‘upped their game’ on Ocado by attempting to match some of the Waitrose products. So I’m seeing loads of organic and higher welfare stuff you’d never see in their stores.

drspouse · 31/08/2020 08:22

We finally got Waitrose delivery here during lockdown. I'll give Ocado M&S a go but I to like Waitrose specific stuff but also things that are only from Ocado. Sigh.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 31/08/2020 08:23

Also shouldn't your post read 'AIBU to be annoyed that Waitrose have taken their products from Ocado?'

The annoyance should be directed the other way around but I only ever see if towards Ocado. If this were a relationship breakup I would be Team Ocado in the aftermath.

AristotleAteMyHamster · 31/08/2020 08:27

I was thinking about alternating Waitrose and Ocado when the changeover happened, but the minimum order from Waitrose is too high. So will be sticking with Ocado. I didn’t buy that much Waitrose stuff anyway.

BikeRunSki · 31/08/2020 08:29

It’s been advertised fir months.. I don’t shop at Waitrose or use Ocado, but I knew! Radio ads mostly.

liveitwell · 31/08/2020 08:32

Just get in the car and do a shop at Waitrose!

amymel2016 · 31/08/2020 08:43

Too busy to read an email/notice the adverts but plenty of time to start a Mumsnet thread about it Grin

KatherineJaneway · 31/08/2020 08:45

Obviously not enough if there aren’t any deliveries till Saturday!

That could be because people are switching from Ocado to Waitrose. Give them time to adjust to the new demands.

Waitrose did a lot to prop up Ocado in the early days so no need for Waitrose hate.

LadyPenelope68 · 31/08/2020 08:48

@bluewanda
And there’s not been any countdown on the mobile version of the desktop site.
Yes there has as that’s what I use!

bluebluezoo · 31/08/2020 08:52

I find ocado own brand stuff just as good as the waitrose and haven’t really bought waitrose stuff for years.

Logging in to ocado they have m&s versions of everything waitrose I do buy, same price and already in my favourites.

So no, don’t really see the problem.

I am looking forward to being able to get m&s stuff on my shop. It’s the higher end luxury stuff that is better for an occasional treat. My basic shop will be ocado and household brand stuff.

Motorina · 31/08/2020 08:57

Just tried to place an order and half my trolley no longer exists on the ocado site. I don't mean waitrose products - expected - but things like the vegetarian sausages and bubble bath that I like.

So I've just placed my first waitrose order. If they're good, I'll stick with them.

byvirtue · 31/08/2020 09:03

Are you not a regular Ocado shopper as M&S products have been on the website for a month? They also suggest M&S alternatives to Waitrose in your favourites. Yes it’s not a perfect swap but c’est la vie, order from Waitrose if you are that fussed (although good luck getting everything you order which is my massive annoyance at Waitrose online ordering.)

StillCoughingandLaughing · 31/08/2020 09:03

AIBU to think it’s a bit pants that Ocado no longer stock Waitrose and that Waitrose, knowing their contract was coming to an end, should have gotten their act together on the deliveries to coincide with this?

But they DID get their act together. YOU didn’t book a delivery slot. That’s a very different thing.

You think you should have heard about this much sooner, but openly admit ignoring all the emails you get from the company. You’re soooo busy and important that you couldn’t possibly open an email, but you can come here and bitch about not being able to get the Essential Cottage Cheese you so desperately need.

If you’re that desperate, go to the bloody supermarket yourself.

tara66 · 31/08/2020 09:09

Can I ask here do Ocado only deliver M&S food then? I thought they did their own ''range'' or am I mistaken? (Looking for a new food deliverer/supplier and haven't used Ocado before).

BubblyBarbara · 31/08/2020 09:10

You might have to slum it for a week until you can get a Waitrose slot by buying a Fortnum and Mason hamper or something

YinuCeatleAyru · 31/08/2020 09:11

when ocado started up, waitrose didn't have their own delivery service so they weren't in competition with each other. I am surprised the partnership has lasted this long since waitrose started up their own home delivery as the two services are in direct competition. our waitrose has loads of delivery slots every day of the coming week so probably just bad luck for your particular area OP.
