Happy to be proved wrong!

Spent hours online looking last night and came up with nothing. I’m looking for something high quality, happy to spend some money if it will last. Needs to be good for the school run but smart enough that I could also wear it to work...

Are you me? I was trawling the tinternet last night for the same thing. If I find something I will hook you up! Also want one to cover my bum. It gets cold too!

Valerievalerie · 30/08/2020 08:06

Ive just bought a rab navy Parker . Mega warm , but thin , fitted and would look smart too
Go outdoors have 60 quid off now

geojellyfish · 30/08/2020 08:09

Yup, exactly this. Why can't fashion be more practical?

You can look good, but be wet and cold OR you can be warm and dry and look like you're off to hike the Lake District. I opted for the latter, because comfort.

BlackbirdFirst · 30/08/2020 08:09

There are many but we dont combine fashion with functionality well in uk high street.
I always see women in gorgeous coats in sweden - look at Haglofs, Rab, fjallraven, lundhags for longer parkers.....

SunnySomer · 30/08/2020 08:10

Depends what you mean by stylish. If you’re happy to be Scandi- stylish, then anything Didriksons or Skogstad will be extremely waterproof and warm. My long waterproof Didriksons coat is over 10 years old and still extremely waterproof and in great condition

CarlottaValdez · 30/08/2020 08:12

I think protected species coats tick all those boxes - although I guess stylish is objective!

Sherkin · 30/08/2020 08:12

There is a current thread on this in Style and Beauty which may give you ideas. Protected Species is getting a lot of praise, but I suppose it’s possible it’s a covert ad...

TellYourCatISaidHi · 30/08/2020 08:13

I have one of these:

Happy with it so far!

CarlottaValdez · 30/08/2020 08:15

I promise I’m not a covert ad! It’s just my favourite coat. They’ve done 50% deals on here though so I think a lot of MN have one (that’s when I got mine).

ScrapThatThen · 30/08/2020 08:20

I favour a classic Mac/trench for this, I have this one currently

ZaraW · 30/08/2020 08:21

I got a coat from Noronna a few years ago which is great. Stylish is subjective though. I'm tall so Scandinavian brands fit well.

Brieminewine · 30/08/2020 08:23

Same 🤣 so hard to find a cosy warm coat with a hood without looking like a science teacher on a field trip! Looks like stylish and wet it is 😂😂

wateraddict · 30/08/2020 08:24

Ilse Jaobsen too, I finally found the bum covering waterproof jacket I needed that actually goes in at the waist. It's more rain coat than parker but there are a few styles so you may find something you like.

doingmeheadin · 30/08/2020 08:27

Agree! It's pretty much all shit. (including protected species, which I've tried 2 styles of and both were no good on me at all) Considering all the crap weather we get, you'd think we'd be a bit better at it by now. Grin Will keep looking, along with the rest of MN!

brainstories568 · 30/08/2020 08:27

I have a similar coat to @TellYourCatISaidHi which is from Tog24. I'd never considered them when looking and then saw people talking about them on here. They're forever having sales so it was about £70.

pictish · 30/08/2020 08:30

Define stylish.
I don’t know what you’re looking for.

ittakes2 · 30/08/2020 08:35

I always check house of Fraser and John Lewis for stylish coats - Four seasons usually hits the mark

ScrapThatThen · 30/08/2020 08:36

But one coat definitely can't do everything, I think I have
Mac
Waterproof sailing coat
Ski jacket
Puffy warm coat
Leather jacket/suede jacket/denim
Body warmer
Lightweight PAC a Mac
It's ridiculous!

Sailing jackets are worth a look for warm and waterproof if you don't mind outdoorsy www.hellyhansen.com/en_gb/w-crew-jacket-30297

Thanks everyone! Well my favourite shop is probably Toast if that gives you an indication of what I think is stylish... pretty minimalist overall.

There was a Swedish woman I knew once who had amazing stylish practical coats in bright colours... that was as close as I’ve seen. And they were warm too, not just raincoats...

Will check out these links Smile

I have been wondering this myself, following with interest

Esker · 30/08/2020 08:43

Also following with interest. I just sent one back to North Face as I looked so nerdy in it 😫

mellowgreenspring · 30/08/2020 08:45

Try sweaty Betty, they will start to get their coats in soon.

Furble · 30/08/2020 08:47

I was also musing the same thing last night. I’ve ordered myself a medium warmth parka from Didriksons. I think it looks stylish and it’s definitely practical. It is expensive (approx £200) but I’m hoping it’ll last me.

Oysterbabe · 30/08/2020 08:48

I think you need to define 'stylish' a bit more.
I've just bought a lovely parka. It'll keep me warm and dry on the school run and on the way too work, at which point I'll take it off.

Rewis · 30/08/2020 09:00

Like PP's. What is stylish? And how warm?

I like Helly hansen and Haglöfs.
