Happy to be proved wrong!

Spent hours online looking last night and came up with nothing. I’m looking for something high quality, happy to spend some money if it will last. Needs to be good for the school run but smart enough that I could also wear it to work...

Try also finding one in a size 18 or 20 🤦 Posting so I can go back and look through these later. I have a Swedish friend who also has lovely, warm coats. Shame I can't go and visit her this year!

Happynow001 · 30/08/2020 09:26

I like Lands End's Maxi Down coat. Very light to wear, very warm and long enough for me (hem below calf for me: I'm 5'7"). I have two of these from past years and these zip low down so no gaping when walking/sitting. I've got a couple more in different styles also Lands End. They all machine wash and tumble dry well. I usually buy when on sale either from their Website or Debenhams online. I usually buy in the Plus size so I can fit layers beneath them without feeling like the Michelin man.. 🌹

Must have been the Saturday night activity, spent last night doing the same.

Some great suggestions on here for my evening activity.

Autumnleavesinmyheart · 30/08/2020 09:57

I think protected species isn’t quite my thing, it’s too slick...

I think I’m looking for the equivalent of a Stuttenheim raincoat, but warm. Maybe a Borg lined traditional raincoat would work, but can’t find any...

To me, this is stylish. But not warm! And sold out in my size...

I don't understand the point of a mac, or a "rain"coat if it doesn't have hood. What's the point in wearing it in the rain if your hair gets wet? Umbrella's are not always practical, if it's windy or you're running to catch a bus/train. Surely a hood is essential in the rain?

Autumnleavesinmyheart · 30/08/2020 10:22

I think hoods can be stylish!

I've never understood the love here for Protected Species - however waterproof they are, the styling looks like Per Una. I've got a 10-year-old Didriksons parka which keeps the rain off, but I wouldn't say it was stylish. The lack of choice mystifies me - why are so many raincoats so short? Are other people's legs impervious to water?

If I won the lottery I'd buy this for spring and autumn and this for when it's cold.

PurBal · 30/08/2020 10:27

I have a berghaus coat from a few years ago that fulfills all those criteria but they don't do anything similar anymore :(

BadDucks · 30/08/2020 10:32

I have the SeaSalt Janelle coat and it is really warm but not bulky. When it first arrived I thought it would be too thin but it keeps me really warm when dog walking and I use it for work.

JoleneExotic · 30/08/2020 10:38

I've got a marmot down filled monstrously ugly thing. Knee length with a fur hood is as close to style as it gets. But man it's warm.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 30/08/2020 10:49

This Community Clothing coat is nice.

BashfulClam · 30/08/2020 11:00

This is what I wear in extreme Scottish weather www.mountainwarehouse.com/aurora-womens-down-jacket-p15082.aspx/black/

florascotia2 · 30/08/2020 11:10

Enormous range of Scandinavian outdoor wear (incl. Didricksons, which I think are amazing; I live in a very wet, cold area and would find it hard to manage without them) from this Scandinavian website:
www.outnorth.com/

They often have sales and special offers.

They post to the UK - though what will happen re customs duties if we end transitional arrangements with EU without greement, who can say?

Yabberdabbado · 30/08/2020 11:11

Waxed parker, it they're expensive if they're legit.

FastFood · 30/08/2020 11:18

I've seen one in Berlin, German high quality brand.
Beautiful parka. It's for men but XS fits fine.
Only issue is that it costs over £500 😂
I haven't ruled it out yet, but I'm not sure I need something THAT warm as I cycle and get hot quite quickly.
But gosh it's beautiful.

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 30/08/2020 11:24

I get around this by having two coats, both Uniqlo, one of their blocktech hooded waterproofs, then an ultralight down to layer underneath if it's cold. I only have the short version of the down, but might see if the longer version hides well underneath this winter. Works well as they fold down really small to stuff in your bag when not needed.

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 30/08/2020 11:27

Thought I'd linked to specific coats, but just takes you to their general coat page, it's the ultra light down without a hood I have as it fits well under the waterproof

FinnyStory · 30/08/2020 11:28

You're right and actually, trying to find one that fits both requirements means you end up with something only slightly less "unstylish" that doesn't really cut it as a warm waterproof coat IME.

However, a really good coat that does what it should can quite literally change your life Grin I love my Seasalt one, I don't think it's awful to look at but I doubt you could call it stylish.

As other posters - not offensive but no exactly “stylish”

CeibaTree · 30/08/2020 11:35

I suggested this on the other thread too, but I've just ordered this www.celticandco.com/womens/womens-outerwear/wax-cotton-jackets/wax-riding-coat#reviews

APipkinOfPepper · 30/08/2020 11:42

I got one a bit like this a few years ago and I love it, I think it is quite smart and wear it for work but not sure it is stylish exactly:

Zaphodsotherhead · 30/08/2020 11:47

Women's clothes are not fit for purpose.

I am with you on not being able to find a coat that's waterproof and warm, but I need a coat for dog walking across country in February, so style isn't important, but it does need to keep the rain out! At present I wear two coats, a down filled one for warmth and a wax jacket over the top to keep the weather out!

As a result, I waddle on cold wet days. But five miles in a North Yorkshire winter is trying on most clothes to be honest.
