Are you sending your children into school with hand sanitiser?

Just that. Many of my friends are sending their children in with hand gel which I totally get.

DC's school aren't really allowing anything to be brought into school. They can take a coat, book bag and pe bag and that's it. No backpacks, drinks bottles, infants aren't allowed to take pack lunch boxes but juniors are!

They haven't mentioned whether hand sanitiser should be brought in so I assumed it wasn't allowed.

Dc went back to school for a few weeks end of term. They had sanitiser stations there and they were encouraged to wash their hands at the sink and use gel very regularly so tbh I didn't feel they needed to take any.

seems trivial but are schools expecting primary school age children to bring it in also? Or discouraging it?

Obviously I can ask but mine aren't due back for over a week. No one regularly in the school yet I don't think!

mine have because they say the school stuff smells like old vinegar. Sometimes they were getting missed as well so they have their own as backup

p.s. mine are at secondary school

I'm putting in his lunchbox to use before and after eating. The rest of the time he uses the school stuff

Yes. She has sensory issues and have bought one she can tolerate.

Yes. My DD13 told me there were kids spitting in the dispensers before lockdown.

No one should have to put up with that, so she’ll have some in her bag.

Mine will be because schools can't afford automated dispensers and the shared pumps make me (not envy!)

Yes because of sensitive skin.

School said don't bring it but before lockdown DS hands were red raw and flaking from whatever they use at school.

Yes, we've been asked to.(Secondary school.)

Yes, dh's work have said they can share the large bottles they're supplied with, with children/partners, so we're doing that as after a week of 'testing' it didn't cause dc4(5) any issues with his skin. Dh got some of the travel size bottles & hooks from Amazon & decanted some ready for them to attach to their bags.

Ours have always been used to taking it in. It's pretty much standard in Italy and has been for years as often the soap runs out.

I'll be sending my primary with sanitizer in their pockets and "use the sanitizer" will be the last thing they'll hear as I wave them into school.

Not allowed here ( not UK) from ,8 yr old down. After its optional. Tbh our school has so many hand sanitising stations there is no need .we got huge government grants to install them and other safety measures . The ones in the junior end work with foot pumps.

My daughter has been back at school since mid August (scotland) She has a little hand sanitiser to bring with her. They are washing their hands regularly so I've bought her a gentle moisturiser too as her hands a getting a little dry.

My 5 year old has been asked to bring some but they have big bottles in the classroom do not sure when it’ll be used.

Back in June, we found some children were actively avoiding (or trying to!) Wwashing hands with soap and running water at the times scheduled and after toilet use as "it's okay, Mum gave me sanitizer to use instead." We had to explain that it was better to wash the germs/virus off and away, and that sanitizer was okay but really only for when we can't actually wash our hands. When we checked, the sanitizer didn't have a high enough alcohol content either. With a couple of the trickier Y6s, it caused a bit of conflict as they resented being told to go and wash their hands like the younger children.

So in our primary, we asked parents NOT to send in their own and just did a lot of normal hand washing with lots of soap. We also had a bottle of sanitizer with 70% alcohol I provided for my class for the odd occasion when needed.

Nope but I'm sending them in with some hand cream - especially the child who has eczema - I'm sending a huge tub of emollient in for her.

We have been asked to send it (primary). Also antibacterial wipes - but it's not clear whether they mean for hands or to wipe down desks.

I think not taking it seems more sensible for primary - not sure why my child’s school is insisting. I’ve thought basically everything else they’ve done is really sensible though so I’ll follow their rules and see what happens.
