To think the hairdresser has totally messed my hair up?

I am naturally auburn but fancied a change to strawberry blonde/peach. When I went in the hairdresser, we will call her J, said she would need much longer to achieve that colour so I would need to come back. She also kind of talked me out of doing it, saying it would be a lot if root maintenance. She suggested I instead get loads of highlights with a strawberry blonde coloured toner through it to make it look like I had lots of that colour through my hair (pic attached, the one I took to them). She then said I'd need to go with another hairdresser due to availability.

Well see pics of how my hair actually looks. I feel like crying because it just looks like blonde highlights theough my auburn hair. I was looking forward to some peachy vibrancy but it doesnt look that way at all. I havent cried since I was about 17 over my hair but it is not what I expected from the discussion we had. it was really expensive too! AIBU?

Also any hairdressers to advise.

I can't see the picture.

steff13 · 29/08/2020 18:55

Wait, now I see them. I think what you got looks better than what you wanted.

Kitmerow · 29/08/2020 18:56

I like the colour OP but it looks nothing like the picture. Perhaps it needs to work up to it?

BigBlondeBimbo · 29/08/2020 18:57

That is nothing like what you asked for. It doesn't look a disaster, but I'm sure it is disappointing. Can you go back and explain the problem and see if they can fix it?

SpeedofaSloth · 29/08/2020 18:58

Your hair looks good but I do agree that it isn't what you asked for.

EmbarrassingMama · 29/08/2020 18:58

I wouldn’t cry about it. But if you asked to go as ginger as the photo and that’s what you got, she didn’t deliver. Call up tomorrow and ask them to fix it.

londongirl12 · 29/08/2020 18:59

I had this recently. Wanted to go one colour and she totally did something else. Was so angry!!
Your hair doesn't look terrible that anyone else would think there's something wrong with it, but I understand how frustrating it is when hairdressers don't do what you ask!! Maybe ask on Facebook for recommendations for a new hairdresser! Definitely don't go back

dementedpixie · 29/08/2020 19:00

your hair would need to be bleached to get to strawberry blonde. If you paid a lot and are unhappy then I'd speak to them about correcting it

ChaChaCha2012 · 29/08/2020 19:01

The toner will only work on the highlights, so you've got what she suggested.

They don't seem to have finished your hair afterwards. I'm sure it will look better when it's styled. (I prefer it to the final picture too.)

IheartHarryStyles · 29/08/2020 19:01

Oh dear. That’s not remotely what you asked for. And what they’ve done isn’t even a great example of what they’ve done, I’m not surprised you’re upset. I hate confrontation but if I were you I’d have to go back and explain this isn’t what I asked for and get them to fix it. You have my sympathies. I came out the hairdressers looking like Lucius Malfoy last time 😐

HoratiotheHorsefly · 29/08/2020 19:02

Is the Pinterest pic the one you wanted?

I'd be seriously unimpressed if I left the hairdressers with how your hair is now, my elderly dog could do better.

I'd complain if I were you.

ChaChaCha2012 · 29/08/2020 19:02

For those saying it doesn't look like the picture, the hairdresser clearly told the OP they couldn't achieve that result.

dementedpixie · 29/08/2020 19:05

no, they said they didn't have time to do it. It would need bleaching all over before adding colour back. They basically talked her out of it because they had no time to do what she wanted

Suzi888 · 29/08/2020 19:06

I agree with @ChaChaCha2012
Think it looks lovely by the way, if you are upset ring up tomorrow and see if it can be tweaked

GameSetMatch · 29/08/2020 19:09

Yes I’d be dissatisfied too if I took that picture in and came out with what you have. Can you go back and see if they can put it right?

BigBlondeBimbo · 29/08/2020 19:10

There is not achieving that exact result and then a completely different colour though. Those hair colours aren't even vaguely similar. J said it would look as if op had "loads of that colour" through her hair... That isn't what she got at all, unless my eyes need to be tested!

Atalune · 29/08/2020 19:14

The hair dresser told you she couldn’t make that look work and told you she couldn’t do it in the time available. She also said what she could do and then I presume you said- yes?

I don’t know what else she could have done?

You asked for something- it was Unachievable
She offered you something else- you agreed

You’re disappointed but I don’t think the hairstylist was at fault.

dementedpixie · 29/08/2020 19:15

But she hasn't really got noticeable strawberry blonde highlights either which is what was offered.

Mojitomogul · 29/08/2020 19:16

Did you go to a salon that can handle colour changes like that? That kind of colour needs an experienced colourist, if your hair is naturally Auburn it would need multiple bleaches to a very light blonde and then the peachy colour over the top. Personally, I think the roots would come through so quickly it would be a very high maintenance colour. But you are not wrong to be upset, it's completely not what you asked for, and they should have told you the result would be nothing like the picture. I'm not sure what result they were trying to achieve with the highlights, as they could not have got close to that colour by just doing highlights. They should have told you they couldnt do it rather than give a half arsed attempt.

riotlady · 29/08/2020 19:16

I don’t think it’s ruined at all, it looks nice, just miles away from what she described

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 29/08/2020 19:17

You didn't get what you asked for.
You didn't get what the hairdresser suggested she'd do either.

What did you say when she showed it to you? YWBU to leave the shop without complaining. I would definitely go back and complain.

feathermucker · 29/08/2020 19:18

You agreed to her suggestion. Her suggestion would not have achieved the significant change you wanted.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 29/08/2020 19:18

Your hairdresser made it clear she couldn’t achieve what you wanted in one appointment and actually suggested it wasn’t really achievable at all, so made suggestions for an alternative. You accepted the alternative (possibly not really understanding what she was saying). She did as she said.

Not sure you’ve got a leg to stand on.

dementedpixie · 29/08/2020 19:19

But op didn't get what the hairdresser suggested. I don't see loads of strawberry blonde highlights there

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 29/08/2020 19:20

(And there are shades of the colour you wanted in your highlights).
