Generally speaking I hate conspiracy theories, but is there anything out there that’s passed off as a conspiracy theory that you think holds some weight? I personally have some questions about the assassination of JFK.

I don’t think Diana’s death was a conspiracy. The royal family came out of it very badly in the public’s eyes. Her popularity was on the wane before then. Surely it would have better to let her fade into obscurity, sailing off into the sunset on Dodi’s yacht, than become a sainted figure?

boltzmannbrains · 28/08/2020 09:14

I don’t think the lid was especially heavy, I think that’s one of the details that’s been misrepresented. Internet detectives have visited the hotel and sneaked onto the roof and reported the lids weren’t heavy.

The man who found her body said in court the lid was open when he found her, though there seems to be some confusion over that.

FOKKYFC · 28/08/2020 09:27

I'm stunned at the number of people on here who think the moon landings were faked, but it's sure as shit explained the result where we've gone to the polls in recent years . . .

I mean the idea of that being implied is vile - wasn't being rude to you sorry!

D4rwin · 28/08/2020 09:33

Ah. The people who prefer their tinfoil hats to face masks. Usually the irony is that they apparently live by "Not believing everything you read". Always love to wind these people up when I meet them in real life.

Packingsoapandwater · 28/08/2020 09:35

Why would finding the passports of people who were very definitely on board those flights be all that unfathomable

It's far more understandable than even that scenario.

The passport was found by a businessman who saw it on the street as he was evacuating the area before the towers fell. He gave it to a nearby NYPD officer who was helping with the evacuation. Said officer handed it in to his station, and no-one realised what it meant until quite a while afterwards.

If you read the first responder reports for 9/11, they give you a very good idea of what the situation was like on the ground after the planes hit but before the towers fell. The impacts blasted objects from the planes and offices quite a long way. A lot of luggage ended up all in one street, for example.

But do beware. You need a strong stomach for some of those reports; there's things in them that have never really been publicised.

SpongebobNoPants · 28/08/2020 09:37

@JudyGemstone Jesus Christ no! And to be accurate there was not and never was any indication of sexual assault on those girls nor any implication that their murders were sexually motivated.
I’m happy to inbox you with what I’m referring to because the thread will end up deleted if I post it here

Asuitablecat · 28/08/2020 09:38

Some of the people I went to.school with post conspiracy theories a lot on fb. Those of us who.don t believe in chemtrails and cv being a hoax, or who read widely from different sources and don t have absolute beliefs, are 'sheeple'.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/08/2020 09:52

Re the JFK shooting - the most likely scenario I believe is him being accidentally shot by the agent behind him. Think about it - how bloody embarrassing for the USA to admit one of their own men did it by accident. There were reports that the agent in question was very hung over too. Of course they'd want to cover that up and probably encouraged some of the dafter conspiracy theories. Nowadays there are so many stories doing the rounds no-one can be sure about anything.
Diana might have survived if she'd worn a seatbelt.
I think some of the pictures of the moon landings were manipulated a little to make them look better. The moon landings did happen, but a couple of edited photographs have stirred up a lot of crap.

LolaSmiles · 28/08/2020 09:54

Asuitablecat
I have one of those on my newsfeed too.
Apparently everyone needs to wake up or be sheeple because Covid 19 is simultaneously a plan by Bill Gates and others to enslave millions, whilst also being a plan to wipe out most of the globe as a form of population control, and this wiping out of humanity is happening in front of our eyes by a virus that said conspiracy theorist also insists is no worse than a common cold.

I don't understand either.

drivingmisspotty · 28/08/2020 09:54

I looked up Mandela effect and it is so disappointing!

Apart from some people thinking Mandela has died in the 80s (obviously people who somehow missed news footage of his release from prison/election victory/visits to the U.K.) all the examples are things like thousands of people thinking there was another e in febreze. That is not spooky/conspiracy/parallel universe stuff. It’s just people assuming a different spelling because it is a freshening product and the name is obviously based on the idea of a fresh breeze 🤷🏼‍♀️

SpaceOP · 28/08/2020 09:58

@CulturallyAppropriatedName I tend to agree with you re David Kelly. I used to think it was clearly a cover up. But having learnt more about mental health and suicide, I'm not so sure any more. The fear, horror and shame could, I believe drive someone to suicide.

I think there's a different between a conspiracy and a cover up which is being lost a bit here. A conspiracy would be an active attempt to do something/prevent something/ misdirect something. But a cover up is when something happens and there's an attempt to make it look differently. Also, a conspiracy requires lots of people involved. SO murder by one person that is then covered up as a suicide, is not, IMO, a conspiracy.

I do believe Epstein was "helped" and possibly encouraged to commit suicide. Not sure it counts as a conspiracy though

boltzmannbrains · 28/08/2020 10:01

And to be accurate there was not and never was any indication of sexual assault on those girls nor any implication that their murders were sexually motivated.

What on earth are you talking about? The prosecutor’s entire argument in the criminal trial was that the murders were sexually motivated. Richard Latham explicitly named sexual assault as the proposed motive in his summing up argument. There was witness testimony debating whether they had been sexually assaulted, discussing the fact the bodies were too badly degraded from being burnt then decomposed to find physical evidence of sexual assault (specifically pointing out the lack of semen and why this might be). After the trial further details were released showing there was pathological evidence “strongly suggesting” sexual assault but that this evidence had not been shown to a jury as the condition of the bodies made the pathological evidence not conclusive, and the prosecution didn’t want to weaken their case with evidence that wasn’t strong.

Huntley was a known pedophile who had raped or attempted to rape girls of around that age before. It’s not confirmed the murders were sexually motivated, but to say there was never any implication is clearly not true.

SoManyActivities · 28/08/2020 10:09

The deaths of Brittany Murphy and her husband. They both dropped dead of the exact same 'natural causes' within a few months of each other? I think that's so weird. There are stories online about what could have happened, I don't know if I believe them, but I remember thinking at the time that it was very unusual that they would both die like that within months of each other.

ThighthighOfthigh · 28/08/2020 10:19

I think we're routinely lied to and kept in the dark on security matters, obviously and necessarily.

I also think the security services are very quietly at work behind a lot of stuff - JFK, David Kelly, MK Ultra.

Stripesgalore · 28/08/2020 11:03

David Kelly was a very sociable man with many friends locally and a family.

The people who knew him didn’t think he was suicidal. It isn’t as if he was some loner where nobody knew his state of mind and he had nobody supporting him.

growinggreyer · 28/08/2020 11:07

Re the passport no-one realised what it meant until quite a while afterwards. I'm sure that it was reported to be one of the hijackers very soon afterwards - and I mean the next day or so. I couldn't understand how they could know which passengers were responsible when they weren't sure about anything else.

GreyGardens88 · 28/08/2020 11:33

That's a pretty naive view of mental health though. You can appear outwardly to be happy and outgoing, but it doesn't mean you're not depressed and suicidal
Stripesgalore · 28/08/2020 11:36

I doubt anyone close to David Kelly thought he was happy during that time period. People were supporting him through a difficult time of pressure.

Those people are in a much better position to know his state of mind on that day than people on the internet speculating. And they didn’t think he was suicidal.

Justpickaname · 28/08/2020 11:44

Don't know if this would be classed as a conspiracy or not, but what about Area 52, what really is going on in there?

Hingeandbracket · 28/08/2020 11:48

It's fucking ridiculous to think Princess Diana was murdered.
The way it happened would have been almost impossible to stage - and it's impossible that not one of the many people who would have to have been involved would have said anything.

Elsaletmyballoongo · 28/08/2020 12:02

Lockerbie bombing (at least who took the fall for it)
Dr David Kelly
Diana's death
Some aspects of 9/11
And agree Boris was not in Scotland recently

Alonetime · 28/08/2020 12:07

I’m only part way through the thread, so apologies if this has already been shared. I recommended the six part series on conspiracy theories from The Anthill Conversation podcast. It talks about the history, characteristics and dangers of conspiracy theorists, and also how to deal with them. Very balanced, respectful and informed series.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 28/08/2020 12:08

Am I the only one who thinks Prince Andrew really did have an American Hot at Pizza Express in Woking... Surely no-one could have made that up? Grin
