Generally speaking I hate conspiracy theories, but is there anything out there that’s passed off as a conspiracy theory that you think holds some weight? I personally have some questions about the assassination of JFK.

@XDownwiththissortofthingX
I didn’t say it was orchestrated as such. I don’t believe that’s how this world works. What I do believe is that there was a huge lack of coherent communication networks which doesn’t make sense to me considering we are talking about some of the richest countries on the planet (Saudis) and some of the most technologically advanced countries with huge intelligence networks (US, UK, Germany).
There are only so many things that need to go wrong for something like 9/11 to happen and for Bush and Blair to destroy other countries to obtain maximum benefits for their oil and military industries.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 28/08/2020 00:36

It wouldn't surprise me if UA93 was shot down and didn't crash

I think there's every likelihood that's the case, only it took so long for military jets that were actually armed to get airborne, intercept, and receive authorisation, that the act of shooting it down pretty much coincided with the passengers taking things into their own hands.

Much better for the families to let them think it was all down to an altruistic act, and it's also indicative of the pants on head approach to internal security that the USAF and National Guard couldn't actually find any armed planes to send up initially.

SistemaAddict · 28/08/2020 00:37

I find this stuff fascinating ever since I read done crappy magazine of my older sisters in 1987/8 about Elvis and was convinced he was still alive. I was 11. Then Marilyn Monroe didn't add up. I read about JFK but I don't recall enough details.
Recently or rather more recent than Elvis- Diana, Robert Maxwell, Epstein. David Kelly was not a suicide. Harold Shipman-was he really a suicide?

boltzmannbrains · 28/08/2020 00:38

I was reading a list of confirmed true conspiracy theories recently, though I can't find it right now. They mainly involved government and medical testing being carried out under unethical circumstances, such as drugs being tested on prisoners or homeless people (and often on black people) without their full or in some cases any consent.

The moon landings were obviously not faked if you have even basic scientific knowledge, particularly about radio waves. Many people around the globe picked up or were responsible for passing on radio signals, they would all have to agree to lie and continue to keep a massive lie secret for decades after. The Soviets would certainly know if the landing had been faked or not as they were monitoring radio transmissions, and it's just completely counter-intuitive for them to agree to participate in a hoax pretending that their enemy won the space race.

That stuff about Prince William and Rose Hambury is just horrible gossip

Maybe. By all accounts it's a rumour that was doing the rounds of the aristo set long before it leaked online, and loads of celebs and journalists and other artistos have claimed it's an open secret. The royal reporter Tom Sykes who's from an aristo family himself (descended from the Duke of Bedford, and his grandad or something was best friends with the King) recently claimed the granddaughter of an earl told him about the affair, and he also said he never comments on rumours unless he's had them confirmed to him personally by three separate reliable sources. He also hates Meghan Markle and loves the Queen and the institution of monarchy so he doesn't have any agenda there. There's also the fact there's a court order barring the UK press from covering it, and William's massive over-reaction to the original story which didn't even mention an affair. It's weird to start threatening the press and claiming your human rights have been breached over an innocuous little story about your wife falling out with a neighbour, unless you have something to hide and know the press is hinting.

what's the Meghan Markle conspiracy?
There's loads. That she faked her pregnancy and Archie is either a hired baby actor or that she had a baby trafficked so she could pretend to have Harry's child. That the Queen arranged for a fake vicar to conduct the wedding so their marriage isn't legally binding. Last year there was a conspiracy theory that the Queen had replaced Meghan with a lookalike to hide the fact the real Meghan was in prison for treason. One minor theory that didn't get much traction that her dad actually adopted her and her real dad is a Rothschild, and that's why the Queen and RF are so scared of her and let her infiltrate them. And loads of stuff about her controlling Harry and trying to destroy the monarchy or even that she's trying to become Queen herself. That Meghan is a former prostitute, that she's got a secret sex tape, and that Meghan's mum is an ex-con and that the RF had California prison records destroyed.

The one theory which I wouldn't call a conspiracy theory because it's self evident is that the press and likely the RF themselves use Meghan as a scapegoat to avoid too much negative press coverage of Prince Andrew or other royal scandals.

This isn't exactly a conspiracy theory but I believe in cryptids, creatures that are either believed to be extinct or that are as yet discovered by science. There are so many species that have either been discovered or were discovered alive after being believed extinct. There are certainly many undiscovered species living in the deep ocean or on uninhabited islands or deep in the jungle, and it's possible some of them are currently mythic or cryptid. For example sea monster myths appear all over the world and in all sea-going cultures; they might refer to giant squid or whales, but they might refer to creatures not yet discovered.

@SingleHandSue

I don’t believe the moon landings happened and I believe Hitler escaped to Argentina.
Don't be silly, we all know that he ended up living in a guesthouse in Minehead. I saw a documentary called "Monty Python", you know.

A really good book on 9/11 is Hidden Finance, Rogue Networks and Secret Sorcery by Joseph Farrell.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 28/08/2020 00:42

@Totickleamockingbird

Oh there was undoubtedly far more at play in terms of motivating the excursions in to the middle-east and Afghanistan than simply rooting out terror and overthrowing terror-enabling regimes. You only need to look at the involvement of Halliburton, consider that US ground troops were told to destroy as much as their ammunition would permit in Iraq, and the fact that the spent the immediate few weeks after the fall of Saddam touring around shooting at journalists in their hotel rooms, seizing oil industry apparatus and means of production, and ignoring far bigger issues like a dysfunctional state, displaced people, ethnic cleansing and raging tribal conflicts, theft and appropriation of antiquities, actual recognisable terror groups creating merry hell, etc etc

Totickleamockingbird · 28/08/2020 00:44

@XDownwiththissortofthingX
Not to mention two great regions with great potential and young population were set decades if not a century back.
So yeah, a few incompetent CIA officers just don’t make sense to me when you see the scale of it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/08/2020 00:44

I didn't think anything of the Hitler/Argentina theories until seeing Villa Winter in Fuerteventura and hearing all about the submarines etc

BashfulClam · 28/08/2020 00:46

Led Harvey Oswald definitely shot at the Motorcade bit I think more than one person was shooting to ensure the job was done. When he was arrested he knew right away what was happening and started yelling ‘I’m just a patsy’. In case he missed there was more than one gunman but he was to take the fall.

I have doubts about the moon landing as it could have been staged since the US would want to beat Russia to have a successful mission.

The thing is we’ll never know.

Withthemonsters · 28/08/2020 00:49

I think David Kelly took his own life- looking at the photos of him at the hearing, he looked awful But, I do think he was bullied/hounded by the media and government and this led to his death.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 28/08/2020 00:50

Farrell is an utter crackpot who believes in 'energy weapons', flying saucers, time-travelling Nazis, and god alone knows what else.

I don’t know about this book. I will check it. One book that gives a sort-of explanation is Mathew S’s Black Box Thinking. But after reading it twice, I feel he has made the exact same mistake he identified in the CIA’s intelligence network: Mathew hasn’t had the chance to spend a significant amount of time in any of the countries that faced the direct impact of 9/11 militancy of the US, UK and allies. So his own picture is incomplete too (lack of diverse thinking, etc).
Withthemonsters · 28/08/2020 00:52

I don't believe in conspiracy theories, on the whole, they're a load of rubbish based on rumours and hearsay and completely illogical, and are generally very easily disproven

lovelymm · 28/08/2020 00:53

What's the Caroline Flack conspiracy?

boltzmannbrains · 28/08/2020 00:55

I have doubts about the moon landing as it could have been staged since the US would want to beat Russia to have a successful mission.

Russia would need to be complicit though. Why would they do that?

Mimishimi · 28/08/2020 01:09

Farrell didn't mention any of those in his book. He did think it was part of a fascist network connected to the Nazis.

Yes, I'd agree that the vast majority of conspiracy theories, especially so some of the more recent ones, are completely and utterly fatuous.

I do believe though, that when there is clear, undeniable, and obvious evidence or circumstance that contradicts the 'official' version of events, then people are not acting at all illogically in claiming conspiracy.

Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi did not manufacture or plant the device that blew up Pan-Am flight 103. His co-defendant appeared on the exact same charges yet walked out of the court a free man. The only basis for convicting Al-Megrahi of 270 counts of murder was that he was identified as the man who bought a shirt in a shop in Malta, a shirt which later on was determined to be inside the same suitcase as the explosive device itself when it detonated. It was found that this suitcase was loaded onto the flight at Heathrow, yet Al-Megrahi travelled directly from Malta back to Libya.

Megrahi's conviction stunk to high heaven at the time, and even more now given how hard the UK government fought to keep a terminally ill man in prison against all normal protocol. They also demanded that he drop his appeal against his conviction as a condition of his release, something that there is no requirement for him to do whatsoever.

To this day he is still the only person to have been convicted of any crime relating to the Lockerbie bombing, despite it being demonstrably impossible for him to have planted the bomb, a bomb which was manufactured in Frankfurt by an Iranian terrorist cell.

The only thing 'easily disproven' about this farce is the UK and US's assertion that Megrahi was the bomber, but here we are.

Jeffrey Epstein might be described as a sloppy attempt at a cover up.
Professor Kelly but that may be because I was getting into Spooks at the time, and Blair was involved
There was a thread on here a while ago on when exactly did you think Mandela died it was spooky.
I think Bin Laden is dead and I don't think Hitler's ego would have allowed him to go into hiding
**@Mimishimi Pearl Harbour?
As in the sense it was known it may happen or was going to happen but was all very last minute & the US Government were caught on the hop as it the aftermath was far worse than anyone managed.
Or maybe they (US Gov/CIA) wanted to get as much evidence as they could but unfortunately let the plot go further than it should have with unfortunately horrific consequences.
We absolutely knew about Japan's plans about 2 weeks before it happened. Thats why Roosevelt moved most of the Pacific Fleet before the attack. He needed a way to defeat the American Publics and its Congress attitude of Isolation. The 8 ships that were sunk and 2000 casualties were collateral damage. It was so well known a B-24 was sent out from Pearl on December 5th to look for the Japanese fleet but was sent in the wrong direction

And the Lone Gunmen predicted 9/11.

Any chance of Adolf Hitler eloping or skulking off to Argentina and such would be rendered an order of magnitude more inconvenient for him by the fact that since 1945, the Soviet Union, East Germany, and then finally Russia, have kept in their possession rather significantly sized pieces of his cranium.

I suppose he might have done it in spirit.
