To feel so angry at the prospect of a no deal Brexit

toastmeahotcrossbun · 26/08/2020 23:07

The clock is ticking now and this looks like the most likely scenario. It's not fair on the almost half the population who voted remain, and it's not fair even on those who voted leave because it's so different from what they were promised. And, to inflict this on the country in the middle of the pandemic is the last thing we need.

So everyone is angry at Boris because he won't let the eu steam roll us into a really shit deal that does not benefit the UK Boris who has been trying to do things he is advised by experts 🤔 🙄 we need to leave and i prefer a no deal to a shit deal and I voted remain and Labour he is only 1 person who is trying his best to do what is right not every person will agree but thats life

twicenice · 27/08/2020 01:35

No deal is what Cummings wanted and that is what we are getting on steroids, it's his wet dream a pandemic, they just want to hobble us through the Jan when he and Bozo will resign and spend the rest of time saying, we didn't mess it up it was our replacement. We delivered want the people wanted.
Meanwhile people will start to wonder why their benefits are stopped or reduced and the disabled will be the next whipping boys now we have no foreigners.

twicenice · 27/08/2020 01:38

Ps aware we do have people from abroad And long may they continue to come. Just so fed up with the whole shit show.

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2020 01:40

Currently 50% of our trade is with EU countries.

I was just looking on BBC to find the final deal date, it's not a number I have in my head!

With no trade deal with the EU and no free movement re borders life will be very different. I can't see how it won't be.

I believe the govt has already renaged on some promises re food standards while negotiating with USA.

I'm worried. We get so much food from the EU. Prices have gone up so much in the last year or so, I dread to think what will happen.

Is it back to the 70s? That's what I'm bracing for.

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2020 01:42

Of course any negative effects will be blamed on covid.

Handy for them. Public thinking about something else. Global downturn.

I really hope it will be ok but honestly, I can't see how it will be.

TorkTorkBam · 27/08/2020 01:48

The impact of Brexit pales in comparison to what the lockdown has done to us.

It's like your house's roof leaking badly, which is quite serious and needs action, but then lightning strikes the house, some walls blow out and it catches fire. The roof leak isn't the problem any more.

The pandemic means the EU will care more about rebuilding economies than about punishing Britain. Despite being a remainer I think the pandemic has increased the chances of a genuinely good deal being made.

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2020 01:50

They never wanted to punish us.

They have acted like grown ups.

We have acted like spoilt toddlers.

It's embarrassing.

amusedtodeath1 · 27/08/2020 01:55

I'm sorry OP, but "the polls" also predicted an overwhelming remain result and that didn't happen.

Truth is it's always been apparent (to anyone who cared enough to REALLY think about it) that leaving would be difficult in the short term but be beneficial in the long term.

I firmly believe that one day we will look back and be glad we got out when we did.

Can I prove that, nope. I could justify my belief with numerous reasons and logic, but you wouldn't listen and I CBA. I fully admit that I could be wrong, but as no one can predict the future all anyone has is guesswork, including "the polls".

PhilSwagielka · 27/08/2020 02:05

I really hope so. I voted Remain but I want Brexit to work purely because the thought of food shortages and not having meds is not a pleasant one.

I just cannot understand all the vitriol aimed at Cummings. He was/is employed to do a job. Why is the fact that he was/is successful at his job and helped to achieve the result he was tasked to do so galling to so many people?

Life is full of disappointments and you need to get over it. Hmm

Oh, I nearly forgot 😉you wanted the UK to leave the EU and the Labour Party to win the election.

Exactly. 😊

What pisses me off about Brexit is that it never needed to happen in the first place. It was a row among the Tory right. Cameron feared the threat of Nigel Farage, and disruption within his own party, so gambled by calling the referendum. Cameron, then heading the coalition government, told Donald Tusk: "Don't worry, the Lib Dems will block it." But then won a majority at the next election, so there was no coalition to block Brexit. Cameron totally fucked up.

You can read about it here:
www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jan/21/donald-tusk-warned-david-cameron-about-stupid-eu-referendum-bbc

I am sure there are significant numbers of people who voted Brexit for sovereignty, for democracy, because they disagreed with the EU as an unelected superstate etc etc. But fundamentally I think racism drove this vote because I hear people being racist all the time.

TorkTorkBam · 27/08/2020 02:18

The disabled won't be the next whipping boys. It will be NI and Scotland taking out more than they put in. The English paying for Scottish socialism.

NB: I don't believe this myself but I think it is where the narrative will go about whose fault it is that taxes are going up and benefits are going down.

northernstar0412 · 27/08/2020 02:20

I also think racism has become more overt and brazen since the Brexit vote.

PhilSwagielka · 27/08/2020 02:28

I’ve got an OnlyFans account and part of the reason was because it was a Plan B in case things got really bad with Brexit. Hopefully it won’t come to that.

Moonmelodies · 27/08/2020 05:33

Not many people took the opportunity to stop Brexit by voting LibDem at the last election, so I guess they're ok with it.

Schmoana · 27/08/2020 06:00

No deal was where the govt always wanted to be.

This isn’t true. The majority of ministers/parliament wanted to remain, which is why Blowjob had to replace the cabinet with his lackeys, rather than anyone with any competence.

latticechaos · 27/08/2020 06:20

Truth is it's always been apparent (to anyone who cared enough to REALLY think about it) that leaving would be difficult in the short term but be beneficial in the long term.

Wow, I wish I had the brains to REALLY think about it Grin

noodlezoodle · 27/08/2020 06:25

YANBU to be angry, but YABU to feel sorry for leavers, because they were absolutely warned what would happen and chose to bang on about 'Project Fear' instead, or were actively enthusiastic about a No Deal Brexit.

Despite thinking that Boris is a complete and utter disaster of a PM, I think he should be forced to serve out his full term instead of resigning and scurrying away in early 2021 which I imagine is on the cards. Let him clean up his own mess.

noodlezoodle · 27/08/2020 06:26

Well OK, I don't really wish another 4 years of Boris on anyone, but I really wish he had to face the consequences of his actions, which somehow never seems to happen.

longwayoff · 27/08/2020 06:33

If only all the Brexit supporters would bugger off to the 'proper Brexit section', taking their no deal with them, that would be good. Unfortunately their hideous decision affects us all so too bad if we mention it from time to time. Idiots.

longwayoff · 27/08/2020 06:42

@MoutardeVogue how do you feel about the foreigner Australian, Tony Abbott, just appointed as EU trade negotiator, by this bunch of cretinous fools we call a government? Or is he the right kind of foreigner? He's got an interesting political record. You can have as much confidence in him as we all have in Boris.

Ifailed · 27/08/2020 06:51

Don’t want unelected (by us) politicians from other countries making decisions about our country

You mean like the WTO will do?

makingmammaries · 27/08/2020 06:54

I just cannot understand all the vitriol aimed at Cummings

Good God. Maybe Cummings is not the only one who needs an eye test.

AnneTwacky · 27/08/2020 06:58

We did elect MEPs to represent us in the EU though. Why do people still think we didn't?
