I wasn't allowed in the shop

Should I complain about this or just let it go?

I wanted to go into a shop today with my ds who is 3. The shop is within a shopping center which has a lift and escalators. The escalator leads directly into the shop but before Covid you could also use the lift to enter from the first floor.

I cannot use an escalator as they make me go dizzy and I would need to carry ds. It just wouldn't have been safe for me so we took the lift.

When we got to the top the lady at the door said this is exit only. I needed to go in from the escalator at the bottom. I said I couldn't use the escalator for health reasons. She then went on to ask me what health reasons. I then had to explain to her and she said she will check with her manager if I can go in Hmm it was a big exit and no one was even coming out at the time.
She radioed over to them and said I have a lady and child here who don't want to use the escalator can they come in through the exit?
I didn't hear the reply but she then gestured for me to enter.

It made me annoyed probably more than it should have. Would you complain or just leave it at that as after all I did get to go in the shop?

I wonder how wheelchair users enter the store??

dementedpixie · 26/08/2020 14:56

Your title is untrue, you were allowed in

CatBatCat · 26/08/2020 14:56

What is there to complain about? They did let you into the shop.

Blackbear19 · 26/08/2020 14:57

Leave it. They are doing their best to operate a one way system and trying to limit people passing each other.

The manager will probably deal with it.

Shoxfordian · 26/08/2020 14:57

She was a bit of a jobsworth but they did let you in

Todaythiscouldbe · 26/08/2020 14:57

So you were allowed in the shop then?

ILikeGlitter · 26/08/2020 14:58

They let me in but not without giving out personal information. Wheelchair users or puschairs use this entrance.

Eh but you were allowed into the shop. Non-issue. Plenty of shops have changed their entrance/exits - annoying yes but they let you in regardless. Get a grip.

AriettyHomily · 26/08/2020 14:58

Why do you need to carry the 3 yo?

Regardless, they let you in so it really is a non-issue.

HijabiVenus · 26/08/2020 14:58

Health reasons - end of. No need to explain what health reasons, and wrong to ask.

You did get let in so is it really with the hassle of your time writing a letter which will get the "we are so so sorry, you let down, blah blah blah " by someone you know does not really care, and which makes you feel good for a few seconds and then put in the bin.

Life's too short

You don’t need to carry ds. I doubt they really make you dangerously dizzy. Plus you were actually allowed into the shop

Odile13 · 26/08/2020 15:01

I would just let it go. The woman had probably been told to check with her manager before letting anybody in and she did just that. You might think it’s OTT but she may have got into trouble if she didn’t do it.

minicat · 26/08/2020 15:01

They did let you in, you just had to explain why you needed them to change their one way system for you.

I can’t walk up stairs and rely on lifts but am at a total loss as to why you couldn’t use the escalator.

Laaalaaaa · 26/08/2020 15:01

If it’s bothering you that much, contact the Daily Mail and have your best sad face ready.

bloodywhitecat · 26/08/2020 15:01

I'd not complain, they are operating a one-way system like lots of shops but still accommodated you when you explained the situation.

minicat · 26/08/2020 15:02

Seriously what is it you think you have to complain about here!

Nikori · 26/08/2020 15:02

So, you went to a shop, you wanted to enter through the exit for medical reasons, the shop staff checked and said fine, you entered the shop.

This thread is weird!! 😂

MJMG2015 · 26/08/2020 15:02

They're trying to keep people safer by having a one way system. It clearly has its issues (wheelchairs being an obvious one, but also pram, people unstable on their feet etc) but it's a learning curve for everyone

They believed you and they let you in. Stop causing problems where there aren't any.

You should work on your issue with escalators.

wildcherries · 26/08/2020 15:02

Agree - life is too short. You were let in.

CrunchyNutNC · 26/08/2020 15:03

It's your place to question the OP's health how exactly?!
CuppaZa · 26/08/2020 15:03

FGS chill out OP

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 26/08/2020 15:03

Talk about misleading title...you WERE allowed in the shop. Total non-issue move on and forget about it OP.

Username7521 · 26/08/2020 15:05

Honestly I’m a bit taken aback you want to complain. They let you in. They are following government guidelines in forcing a one way system.
It’s an incredibly tough time for shop/bar assistance trying to enforce guidelines with many people thinking they are above the rules. I’m so glad I don’t work in retail or hospitality at the moment.
