I think this is deliberate. Planting that seed...

If we have a bad winter ( Deep recession, lockdown, 2 nd wave). He’ll go blaming his poor health.

If it’s not as bad he’ll stay.

StealthPolarBear · 25/08/2020 21:41

@CaptainMerica

He said he is expecting "significant normality" by Xmas, didn't he? I assumed that meant him sitting with his feet up raking in money while doing fuck all work.
You're exactly right. Brilliant comment
SoulofanAggron · 25/08/2020 21:42

@MarshaBradyo I don't think many people would vote for Gove, he's unappealing in every way. And Cummings I think people feel is kind of sinister, as well as being a liar etc.

The80sweregreat · 25/08/2020 21:43

There are many decent Conservatives and I liked Theresa May ( I've never voted for any of them by the way)
She was shafted by Brexit and a hung parliament and Boris will be by Covid and the economy tanking and 'u turns' and all sorts. Not to mention the 'gruesome twosome ' of Gove and Cummings who are very dangerous individuals in my book.
(The Burke and Hare of Westminster! )
Politics is a dirty business indeed. I could never be a politician.

Nat6999 · 25/08/2020 21:44

Let's face it he didn't lead as he should have done going in to Covid, the care homes fiasco was disgusting, he could have locked the country down much sooner, introduced mask wearing at the beginning instead of when we were emerging from the height of infection. All the money that was thrown at the economy wasn't to benefit the country, the eating out thing is just a gimic. Gove is pathetic & couldn't lead a dance let alone the country.

Aah - the Brexit Thing - makes a change from the CV19 Thing - although for some pps here the two become conflated into an inflated anti-BJ, Brexit, Tory CV19 Balloon.

Probably he'd like to move on early in 2021 as why not? ASFAIK being PM isn't a job for life and pretty much his election 'ticket' was getting Brexit done. Not necessarily involving a global pandemic too.

It's well known BJ prefers a Brexit Deal but really, no one knows right now what will be the Brexit outcome do they? I know Barnier does a Press Conf after each round of negs, and quite unsurprisingly, always finds the UK at fault in any lack of progress because, well, "he would say that wouldn't he"?

Usually in French if a Journo asks a post-statement question in English - which does amuse me.

For a Scholarship Boy that was a bit of a geek, a mentally unstable mother, philandering father and possible speech impediments - da boy done good really - and if he wants to go live amongst rocks, as the OP suggested, why shouldn't he.

Ilovelblue · 25/08/2020 21:50

Enter Cheese, Fingers' replacement. Now here is one despicable soldier.

Mimi looks upset. There's definitely some history between them.

Pumpkinnose · 25/08/2020 21:51

I really really think he is not only useless but dangerous.

Is Gove worse?

MarshaBradyo · 25/08/2020 21:52

Soul yep and I reckon even Cummings knows that popularity and voting appeal is key to winning.

Leaannb · 25/08/2020 21:54
@Leaannb Are you sure he wasn't talking about Dom?
Dom has always said he will go after Xmas and his job adverts for someone to lead his team made it very clear he wanted to leave early next year.
I posted the article. It said BJ was going to resign due to lingering effects of Covid

Gancanny · 25/08/2020 21:55

I posted on a thread last week that I reckon he'll fuck off early next year once he's got a on-deal Brexit fully over the line and everyone is well and truly fed up of Covid-19. He will not be looked upon well by the history books and this era will be taught in academia as a prime example of clusterfuck upon clusterfuck.

Gancanny · 25/08/2020 21:55

On-depth = no deal

MsJinks · 25/08/2020 22:00

Already bet a while back with colleagues on January 2nd, whether leaving date or announcement, so Feb sounds realistic to me - as soon as Brexit can be said to be ‘done’ - to allow him to leave a hero having sorted a pandemic and delivered the Brexit the people wanted. Please note those are the sentiments I believe Johnson will have about himself, not mine, nor I imagine future historians. I actually don’t think he likes all the work of it one bit - even the minimal amount he gets away with doing. I don’t think he likes people not liking him either, and being asked awkward questions. I really don’t think it was what he expected to be honest - be careful what you wish for as they say - but he’s had enough to my mind.

Mumratheevergiving · 25/08/2020 22:00

Well he’s been back from holiday for 2 days so he’ll be ready for another extended break.

Gove is another under EmporerPalpatines Cummings rule. Where are all the Jedi’s when you need them?!

Pepperwort · 25/08/2020 22:01

I did say ages ago that I thought Johnson’s incompetencies and scandals would mount up and up until it brings the government down at the end of the year amidst general civil chaos. Then Keir Starmer would have to take over and somehow pull order back out of chaos at home while putting the EU off over the New Year and sort a soft Brexit round about Easter. What joy to contemplate the total mess we’re in.

The80sweregreat · 25/08/2020 22:01

More ' u turns' over masks in schools they have said.

Pepperwort · 25/08/2020 22:03

This era will probably be in the history books as disaster capitalism.

SabrinaThwaite · 25/08/2020 22:06

ASFAIK being PM isn't a job for life

Not a job for life (unlike Enver Hoxha Wink) but usually it’s a job lasting the 4 year term that Johnson stood for, given the FTPA.

goose1964 · 25/08/2020 22:08

He'll run as soon as possible after he has "got Brexit done" leaving the shit for someone else to clear up.

yolio · 25/08/2020 22:11

I am more concerned about who will replace him. Four more years.

HateIsNotGood · 25/08/2020 22:17

Thwaite - nice one for the Albania reference, much as I'm an Albaniaphile - can't think of a similarity at all between BJ and EH, although I'm always keen to hear new things.

Fair point on the 'usually lasting' 4 years, but it's not mandatory, so a PM, like any other UK Worker, can resign.

I prefer a bit of turnover in PMs, rather than the years and years of re-elected Same-Olds (eg: Thatcher and Blair) and the never-ending Hoxhas and Lukashenkos.

Mumratheevergiving · 25/08/2020 22:20

@Pumpkinnose

I really really think he is not only useless but dangerous.

Is Gove worse?

Quite likely but he’s awful in different ways. Let’s hope we don’t have to find out 😬
Pumpkinnose · 25/08/2020 22:24

Am I missing point of thread/politics... but when the no deal Brexit is hideous won’t the Tories just blame it all on Covid. Which makes me rage....

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 25/08/2020 22:25

pobble and BCF - yes the Proms thing was headline news in the Daily Express, so that was his cue that it mattered to his core demographic.

Schools on the other hand ...
