Please say I'm right! I think heels are dated weapons of misogyny!

Phew, that feels better:

@Pikachubaby

I wonder about “wearing heels for yourself”...

Did you wear them in lockdown when you were home alone?

Somehow I doubt many (any) people did

Yes yes yes yes literally NO ONE wears heels when they're not going to be seen, therefore they're not for oneself. Let's all be honest with ourselves.

I do indeed dress for other people, we all do, otherwise we'd all be in joggers and slippers in the office etc.

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 27/08/2020 11:18

But people don't normally wear shoes full stop if they aren't going to be seen Confused.

I definitely would wear chunky heeled boots out for a quick walk to the shops. My weapons of misogyny 😂 are better for walking in than converse or ballet pumps, which fuck up your arches don't they? Wasn't there a whole hoo ha about it on MN a couple of years ago? Fashion changes on here too, with the silly sheeple bleating that now THIS, this is the only right way...only to bleat the opposite a few years later Confused.

Not that I'm foolish enough to say I ONLY dress for my own comfort. Nobody in their right mind does that. Even people who have to prioritise practicality over fashion at work, if they are engineers working on site or farmers etc, occasionally will dress up. So yes, if we are honest, nobody dresses just for themselves all the time. Anyone who was wearing shoes purely for good foot health would invest in a decent pair of chunky boots imo and not those awful, flimsy converse or ballet flats Grin.

famousforwrongreason · 27/08/2020 11:25

Nobody wears ballet pumps anymore if we're gavel banging and I actually know plenty of people who dress for their own comfort. I have disabilities, it's the only way I can dress

Do people who normally wear chunky boots or whatever wear them home alone during lockdown?

How bizarre. Surely people are either barefoot or in slippers at home? Hardly a reflect on their choices of footwear out of home.

People on here have said they wear ballet pumps for work. And converse, (which people have lauded as The Fashion for - stand back and show some reverence lads - TEENAGERS! So they must be super fashionable Hmm), are at least as bad for walking any sort of distance ime.

Yes, apologies for missing out that people with disabilities or sensory issues may have to prioritise comfort over aesthetics Flowers.

SurreyHillsGirl · 27/08/2020 11:33

I walked past the Ritz in London yesterday on my way to a meeting and two very smartly dressed women were walking in.. they both had very high heels on and they looked SO dated! One of them had red soles so were obviously Louboutins but just goes to show money can't buy style.

I'm mid forties and wear flats most of the time but if I'm wearing a skirt, I will wear a kitten heel, they just give my leg more shape than flats, while not being too try hard and dated like a full on court shoe.

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 27/08/2020 11:39

I do think the massive court shoe, especially Louboutins with the red sole, have had their day...for now, at least. But if I owned a pair, (which I don't as I can't walk in them), I wouldn't be giving them away just yet.

Pps and I have been saying throughout that there are heels and heels though. Fell on deaf ears of course with some of the sheeple clamouring to appear stylish 😂🙄.

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 27/08/2020 11:41

In fact, I specifically mentioned Louboutin court shoes and how funny it was that they used to be the height of elegance.

FinnyStory · 27/08/2020 11:47

Louboutin do an amazing range of trainers, c.£450

I bet they have a proper sole, unlike the dreaded converse! Still, I can't justify that sort of money. I have whit Fitflop trainers, which are great for me. Could, (and do), walk many miles in them.
JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/08/2020 11:56

My 18yo frequently wears heels on nights out. She cannot walk in them for toffee though Hmm

JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/08/2020 11:57

Louboutins were fashionable for a while but they were always the most uncomfortable of the £££ designer brands. Absolute cripplers.

lisaevans · 27/08/2020 12:08

I still love heels!! although i don't wear them as often i still put them on to go out for the evening, i dont think its ageing at all, im 31 i have to wear flats at work so i quite like putting them on when out. Plus i like the confidence i get when wearing them, i just carry myself better i think. I could never imagine myself wearing a dress with trainers if im honest. Everybody is different

dayslikethese1 · 27/08/2020 12:10

When I was a teen my stepfather told me that high heels were invented by men so that women couldn't run away, not sure how much truth there is in that. I do wear them occasionally though (like to weddings or a fancy dinner).

dayslikethese1 · 27/08/2020 12:11

I also don't understand people saying they're 'ageing'...surely it depends on the style of shoe (and the rest of the outfit)?

People pop out to the shops etc where they're not seen by anyone, they certainly won't be wearing heels
WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 27/08/2020 12:51

post, I said I did in the post you quoted Confused. Chunky HEELED boots, (boots with a lowish, but definitely not flat, HEEL. Sometimes they are wedges - they are like walking on air. London Fly, ankle boots ❤. Sometimes, my old chunky boots with a heel, which sadly met their maker

  • or should that be manufacturer?- recently).

Not sure if you are saying you don't believe me, or if you misread my meaning...

Indeed!

As far as I can tell, it's people with a very narrow view of what a heeled shoe can be and an absolute desperation not to dress any older than a 16 yo apparently Confused. Bit sad really.

TheNewLook · 27/08/2020 15:19

wherethecrawdadssing love your name! That was my book of last summer - adored every word. 😍

Whilst wearing Birkenstocks because I had seen someone’s 14 year old in them and decided I must obey the trends of children!

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 27/08/2020 16:41

Yes, I also loved the book!

@SurreyHillsGirl

That’s hilarious Grin as if you’re mocking court shoes as dated and presenting your alternative (wait for it) ...the KiTtEn heel... as the height of sophistication and trends. With no hint of irony Grin

A stylish and sophisticated outfit will be just that, regardless of whether the wearer has courts, wedges, kitten heels, stilettos, trainers on - so long as they are dressing in a flattering way with full confidence. Just look at the shit Rihanna manages to pull off- it’s not just about what’s trendy and there’s no one size fits all. Courts look infinitely better on me than kitten heels (not doubting that kitten heels look good on you but just suggesting you might not be the gatekeeper of style).

TheMarzipanDildo · 27/08/2020 16:47

I don’t wear high heels in the day, but I do of a night out (as am v short). I’m usually the only one though!

Initforthecake1980 · 27/08/2020 18:48

I’m going out for dinner first time in ages tonight. Will be wearing heeled boots but chunky, not too high heel. Hope I don’t look dated

amillionwishes · 27/08/2020 19:20

I'm early 40s, we went out for dinner and drinks the other night to a fairly nice place and I wore black hi top trainers with my dressy casual outfit instead of chunky heeled boots. I felt I looked far more "on trend" and it was much more comfortable 😂

amillionwishes · 27/08/2020 19:22

Also it was raining Grin
