According to the radio 4 show "More or less" this morning some students might not get they're teacher predicted grade. As there's another assessment I'm distraught. I have so much pinning on this tomorrow :-(

They get their teacher assessed grade or the calculated grade whichever is higher. Don't worry.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 19/08/2020 16:07

I am too!

Penguinnnnnnnnnnn · 19/08/2020 16:07

The a levels have been such a mess and they’ve done a u turn on that if the GCSEs are the same there will be a u turn also

SpookyNoise · 19/08/2020 16:07

It’s not necessarily their teacher assessed grade, but rather the centre assessed grade.

W00t · 19/08/2020 16:21

What do you mean by there's another assessment?

WWRU · 19/08/2020 16:47

Teachers and heads of department decided on the most likely grade to be achieved by each child, based on all available evidence of their ability. Departments and senior leaders rank ordered the children for the exam regulators. The grades sent off were 'centre assessed', as in a product of all staff involved in school.

Now the algorithm has been applied and in many cases the 'calculated grade' was not appropriate, most children will revert back to the grade provided by schools (originally intended to be information to base the final result on) and it won't be adjusted at all.

If it had been adjusted up, the child can have this improved grade.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 19/08/2020 16:49

Does anyone know how this presents tomorrow? Do they get two envelopes ? Very confusing!!

BelleSausage · 19/08/2020 16:52

Your child will get the higher of the two grades. Please try not to worry, colleges and sixth form have more room to be lenient than unis.

Remember that the grades are not teacher assessment. We didn’t assign each pupil a grade. They were ranked as a year group and then assigned grades based on past performance. It was done as a whole centre so that individual staff members could not be over generous or over harsh.

cardibach · 19/08/2020 16:52

The tree a a lot of co fusion because the press keeps referring to 'teacher predicted grades'. That has made people think it's the grade they may have seen in the end of Y10 report, or the mock grade. It's not. It's a centre assessed grade based on work completed and bearing in mind rank order and the school's prior performance. Nobody should have been told these, though they shouldn't be too much of a shock if you are aware of your/your child's grades over the last 2 school years.

BackInTime · 19/08/2020 16:54

Also confused and having to reassure a very worried DD who didn't get great mocks which taken very early in Y11. Frankly I really do not know what to expect. The ranking thing concerns me because how would they differentiate between very similar ability students in a large school.

BelleSausage · 19/08/2020 16:55

Also, please remember that the grade can still be lower than your child’s last mock.

If they worked in a 5 for the last couple of assessment but suddenly pulled a 6 on their mock paper ( which might only have been one of two papers or half a paper) then they will probably have gone in as a 5.

Parents will find this confusing but the grades we were asked for were based on class work, coursework and mocks. One mock paper will not put weigh all the other stuff.

ihatethecold · 19/08/2020 16:57

I am so nervous also. I just want tomorrow to arrive so we know. My DD has had awful MH problems since year 8 and really start to get better during year 11, she worked so hard to catch up. I really have no idea what grades she will get.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/08/2020 17:11

Please stop referring to teacher assessed grades. This is not what you will be getting. CAG are grades that have been ranked and fit to the last three year trends. They could be very different from predictions depending on how strict the schools were with the data. There are likely to be huge anomalies

TheFallenMadonna · 19/08/2020 17:14

I downloaded my school's results today and put them in envelopes. And will be taking my DD to collect her grades tomorrow. I am a bit of a wreck.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 19/08/2020 17:32

@TheFallenMadonna did you see your child's?
I'm so worried for dd even though her predicted grades are excellent and she has never hit below a 7 , I have completely lost faith in the government and I'm so worried they willl let her down .. I know she only 'needs' 5's to do her A levels but I'll be happy when 10 am arrives !! 😬🙈🙈🙈😱😱

Lowhangingfruit · 19/08/2020 17:35

Thank you for replying, bit it's not for my children but for me! Last time I sat a maths GCSE it was many moons ago. This thread has now confused me more, with the anolomies???

OP posts:
W00t · 19/08/2020 17:36

For you? Yikes! Good luck Thanks

cardibach · 19/08/2020 17:38

What anomalies OP? The CAG is not. Teacher predicted grade it’s a centre assessed one based on all work and a few other things. Where have you studied for your GCSE? That will affect how it was arrived at. Bottom line is it may not be any grade you’ve ever actually seen before, but if the algorithm grade is higher You’ll get that.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/08/2020 17:38

Different schools. Otherwise I think I would have had to let someone else do the download. Palpitations just thinking of that!

Lowhangingfruit · 19/08/2020 17:38

The irony is I have 8 A-Levels but I don't have a maths GCSE in C (old money lol). I've been working towards this for nearly 3yrs around lots of other stuff. I hope it goes well for her. I remember being sick in the morning due to stress. Hope she recovers from all this stress and has a great educational experience from now!

gubbbbbddaaaa · 19/08/2020 17:41

Ooh good luck OP !! 🙏🙏

Lowhangingfruit · 19/08/2020 17:41

Yes for me. I know 😂

OP posts:
Lowhangingfruit · 19/08/2020 17:44

The teacher predicted a 4. I don't know about what my rank is. But a small adult ed class so it's across 2 classes. So not sure how it will work..

OP posts:
StormzyInaDCup · 19/08/2020 17:44

Sorry to hijack your thread @Lowhangingfruit.

Can anyone explain if I have this right:
GCSE grades will not be the mock results, but rather a teacher assessed grade, based on the last 3 years of results (inclusive of mock results).

They will no longer be subjected to algorithm, but will be centre assessed? So DS will receive whichever is higher?

Lowhangingfruit · 19/08/2020 17:45

Hijack ahead Stormzy!
