To feel ignored on MN?

See thread here.

My advice wasn't even agreed with - just completely ignored and the same advice given twice. Do I have to pass some sort of test before anyone acknowledges my posts here?

Not the first time either!

well I know Ruddynorah but it still ANNOYS me. It just does, however unreasonable it is, it's one of those things. And I haven't noticed that MN is about being POLITE really. That's something I haven't picked up on much but it can be fun and it can be helpful.

It can also get you down. I can understand a lot of people not liking MN. I didn't feel ignored here when I was new but maybe I'm less sensitive and I posted quite a lot so just didn't notice that I was being ignored. If you have one active thread and get ignored, you really notice it. Whereas if you have 15 (a hem) active threads and are ignored on 10, you may not really notice IYSWIM

Are you getting ignored in your Halloween name RHUBARB?????

lou33 · 04/10/2007 09:22

god rhuby, your name change made me sit up for a sec! morticia is a name i use loads online , and my mum would be 73 on sunday if she were still alive

i thought she was sending me a message from beyond the grave

Lulumama · 04/10/2007 09:23

but morticia, that is how RL is too

when you are new to a group, you can be talked over and it takes a while to make your presence felt, and most people prefer the sound of their own voices, so i think MN is a reflection of RL in that respect,

as the site is so big, you can get lost a bit

newbbiemum · 04/10/2007 09:24

i guess this happens to everyone..

for me personally..i am on mn to connect with local mums...little joy so far...but i enjoy reading the other posts...

stick with it

BandofMutantMonsters · 04/10/2007 09:25

You have to remember we are all real people who do other stuff inbetween posting. I go away for ages, as someone else said, sometimes halfway thru a post if something happens in the house, and can forget to come back for ages.

This is usually when the convo will get really interesting and when I get back everyone's gone

MorticiasMother · 04/10/2007 09:25

Heeeeeeeeeeeeelloooooooooooooooo loooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuu! Ooooooooooooooooo!

Nah I'm not getting ignored in this name but I have name changed to an obscure name in the past and was shocked at how my subsequent posts were ignored. As though people thought that if I wasn't a regular I wasn't worth replying to.

Try it. Change names and post a few times. Even those Mumsnetters you thought were really friendly tend to elbow you out of the way when they don't know who you are.

lou33 · 04/10/2007 09:26

this is going to confuse me loads now, morticia is my name outside of mn !

BandofMutantMonsters · 04/10/2007 09:26

but morticia, that is how RL is too

lou33 · 04/10/2007 09:27

Lulumama · 04/10/2007 09:28

BOM, did you just steal my post?!?!?!?

BandofMutantMonsters · 04/10/2007 09:28

Heheeeeeeeee, wondered if anyone would notice, sorry Lulu

BandofMutantMonsters · 04/10/2007 09:28

Am PMSL here

MorticiasMother · 04/10/2007 09:29

Well I think that when you are new to a group, you can be talked over and it takes a while to make your presence felt, and most people prefer the sound of their own voices, so i think MN is a reflection of RL in that respect,

No lou I'm busy - Jesus wants me to iron this evening.

Lulumama · 04/10/2007 09:29

i am all seeing, all knowing

arf !

flowerybeanbag · 04/10/2007 09:30

lou having a niche is lovely!

And agree with RN - sometimes posts have to be corrected. I do sometimes, because my niche area often involves legal advice. There are some posters like myself who give professional advice, and some who (extremely valuably) give their own experiences or those of others in similar situations.

Occasionally though, people post things about legal situations which they have got the wrong end of the stick about, or don't know the up to date stuff, or have found something on a website which doesn't actually apply to the OP and I am always terrified that a poster is going to run off and demand something from their boss which they are not entitled to, or alternatively not demand something which they are entitled to. So if there is some incorrect or misleading legal advice posted, I do correct it. Nicely though

MorticiasMother · 04/10/2007 09:30

i am all seeing, all knowing me.

Lulumama · 04/10/2007 09:30
