Holy shit, now based on teacher predictions.

OP posts:
KingscoteStaff · 19/08/2020 12:26

Teacher grades for African Caribbean students are usually predicted lower than for white students. This disparity must be examined closely if predicted.

Research here suggests that in fact BAME students are far more likely to be over-predicted. This of course leads to this disadvantaged group being more likely to miss their offers. Obviously I'm talking about a 'normal' year here.

only cramming in the last months before exams.

There's been a rise of 12% this year. I wonder if that might have happened even if the exams had been held because all the students were confined to their homes during lockdown and would have had little to do but cram and revise.

@Xenia

I’m really not following what are you trying to say?

I think there’s some extraordinary generalisations going on there but I’m surprised that for a lawyer the argument isn’t clearer...

@Xenia- I usually enjoy reading your posts, because of your attitude to women in education and your self belief
However, I found that your sweeping generalisations about ‘black’ families and education quite baffling.
The idea, that Hindus ‘work harder’

suggests that ‘black’ children don’t work hard and also fails to recognise the fact that different ethnic minorities have different experiences of racism. For example Asian families are usually regarded as academic and hardworking, whilst black children are seen as a problem
Firstly you have failed to make it clear that there is a difference between the attainment of black Africans and black Caribbean.
I am white. My dd is at a Kent grammar school. A third of the students are black and mainly of African( Nigerian) descent.
Many African immigrants value education and will take on extra work to ensure that their children do well at school. Despite doing well at school, many fail to get the top jobs.

Union re next year

NEU in typical sensible form - they’re trying hard to get the government to have some strategy.

Year 12 has also had its work to A level disrupted, will return as year 13 to uncertain circumstances with social distancing measures in place, and when they apply to univerity there will be fewer places available because some of this year's cohort will have had to defer.

While there will be deferrals to 2021, those numbers will most likely be offset (and probably exceeded) by the significant reduction in EU applicants that the levying of full international fees will bring about after the Brexit transition ends.

areyou, yes I agree and indeed know Nigerians who use English boarding schools. I think most people agree that UK statistics show those who do best in English schools are Chinese and Asians, better than white and those statistics sadly are not usually broken down between different kind of the category of black. The interesting point about my Indian neighbours is divorce is rare and most live in 2 parent families and I suspect the extra money that means for the family has an impact on explaining the attainment levels in school between black and Asian families. www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/education-skills-and-training/11-to-16-years-old/a-to-c-in-english-and-maths-gcse-attainment-for-children-aged-14-to-16-key-stage-4/latest#by-ethnicity

collapsedhairpin · 19/08/2020 17:29

Oh I thought we were supposed to give all the As to those kids who’s parents teach in our school! Did I read the memo wrong?

Yes! Everybody knows you should keep a register of the PTA parents from primary and give the A*s to them and only them.

christinarossetti19 · 19/08/2020 21:06

Xenia your latest post is quite mortifying to read.

'Chinese and Asians' makes no sense. China is in Asia.

The rest of the post makes the same inaccurate sweeping generalisations that got your previous post deleted.
