i literally don't drink plain water. i drink a can of coke zero with my lunch and another with my dinner, i try to drink green tea with my breakfast but.. this almost never happens and i give in and have an iced coffee/milk tea (cold, milky tea), it's really bad, i get headaches but i can't bring myself to drink water. Some people seem to drink loads of water. I only drink water at the gym. I take a glass to bed at night, but never drink it.

I might be unusual as I drink very little full stop. Today I have so far had 1 can of Pepsi max and that's all. I don't need lots of liquid. I am not dehydrated - my urine is always very pale and I pee often and my skin is never dry, I can't remember the last time I had a headache and I rarely feel thirsty.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/08/2020 18:51

I am surprised at how much fizzy pop people drink regularly rather than surprised at the lack of drinking in general.
Is it a sweet tooth? Or is it just being used to them from childhood? I have some maybe once in 2 months.

@User7312019Why does she need to grow up?! It's her opinion !

DrDavidBanner · 17/08/2020 18:55

Cold milky tea with Golden Syrup!?! Envy Not jealousy!!!!

It sounds like you have an extremely sweet tooth, I second peppermint tea, I drink it at work. its naturally sweet and refreshing with none of the nasty stuff and if you forget its on your desk you can still drink it cold Grin.

I've got some of these as well to flavour water which make it much nicer www.twinings.co.uk/tea/cold-infuse

JammyHands · 17/08/2020 18:56

I have the same problem as you, OP in that I rarely get thirsty. I do like water fortunately. Perhaps you could start small and have say a 200ml glass of water with each meal, and see how you get on. Drinking water is habit, I find. Maybe try ordinary tea without milk or sugar for a change?

PhilCornwall1 · 17/08/2020 18:58

Stop taking the piss out of tap water! .... mind you, I wish someone would, might taste better!!!

Jux · 17/08/2020 18:59

I don't drink water either, though I have no objections to it at all, quite enjoy it when I do have it (likewise milk). I drink tea all day, I make a cuppa (a biggish mug) every 45 minutes or so, certainly once an hour. After supper I drink decaff. I figure tea is just water and milk anyway.

DrDavidBanner · 17/08/2020 19:01

@SchrodingersImmigrant It suprises me too how many adults only drink fizzy pop, its just calories in a can.

Mothership4two · 17/08/2020 19:07

It doesn't have to be water OP, but you are not keeping your liquids up and must be dehydrated. Being hydrated is healthier. Also being dehydrated tends to cause halitosis.

My DH has to drink lots of water otherwise he gets kidney stones. You really don't want one of those!

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 17/08/2020 19:08

I genuinely don’t understand how some people on this thread sustain life! A can of something ALL DAY!?! Surely it is not possible to have clear pee?

Organs require fluids to function. When you put nothing in how can you be peeing out and be ok with nothing in the tank?

It’s similar to suggesting that a packet of crisps will get you through the day in my opinion!

speakout · 17/08/2020 19:10

This thread is making me thirsty- off for a delicious fresh class of cool tap water!

Mothership4two · 17/08/2020 19:13

We put our tap water in a jug in the fridge, the chlorine in it evaporates, so no chemically aftertaste. It tastes fine and is chilled

LioneIRichTea · 17/08/2020 19:19

OP think of your skin. Dehydrated skin will she really quickly! Drier the skin the more wrinkles!

LioneIRichTea · 17/08/2020 19:19

Will age*

Angelina82 · 17/08/2020 19:24

Drink water or don’t drink water. It’s your body. Who cares? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The European Food Safety Authority recommends that women should drink about 1.6 litres of fluid a day. You can become dehydrated without feeling thirsty. If you can genuinely survive on one can a day without any ill effects, then you are probably eating foods that have a high water content

Bellesavage · 17/08/2020 19:41

Try redbush tea rather than green. Green is vile.

Also try a straw. I drink a lot more with a straw.

HyaluronicHippo · 17/08/2020 19:42

I’d worry about my breath smelling if I wasn’t drinking any water at all, only coffee/fizzy drinks.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 17/08/2020 19:48

@sugagi I know it’s a weird question but what colour is your urine? It will give you a good indication of hydration levels.

All I’ve had today was a small tropicana orange, a couple of mouthfuls of coffee and half a pint of water, almost clear despite doing 2 sweaty walks, plenty hydrated.

KittyVonCatsworth · 17/08/2020 19:51

Plain water is just inoffensive though isn't it, unless you live in London, then it's pretty vile. It just tastes of nothing really. I just don't give it any thought really but I've always got either a 2l bottle of sparkling mineral water or a 1.5l beaker next to or with me. I used to drink 10-12 cans of juice every day but can only manage one these days or I just gas up.

sugagi · 17/08/2020 19:53

@JoeCalFuckingZaghe it's not clear but it's not super yellow Blush

Your poor teeth

TornadoOfSouls · 17/08/2020 20:12

There are loads of other drinks you can try that aren’t water OP. Personally I think a can of Coke Zero a day is okay. You could try some watery drinks like Aqua Libra which aren’t sugary or full of artificial sweeteners. Alcohol-free beer is hydrating and not sweet (not suggesting you drink it all day, but one in the evening maybe) and nice as shandy with lemonade or ginger beer. Also in this weather you could try fruit ice lollies.
I drink gallons of water and other things but I’m sure a lot of it is just making a habit of it.

purplecorkheart · 17/08/2020 20:12

Maybe to gradually get the taste for water make icepops ( you can get moulds and stick in most kitchen/department stores/ebay amazon) from water and squash. Gradually reduce down the amount of squash. Then move onto ice cold water and then fridge cold water then room temp.

It will take a while but so worth doing. I never had a probably with drinking water but for ages I used to get a post lunch wave of tiredness. Someone suggested I up my water intake and it literally disappeared. I used to cry at times I was so tired. I genuinely thought there was something wrong with me

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 17/08/2020 20:19

You do know that long term dehydration can cause kidney problems, seizures and low blood volume, all of which have a fair chance of killing you?

If you don't like water, drink something else. Milk, cordial, squash, fizzy water, tea, whatever. You sound like a fussy toddler, grow up.
