i literally don't drink plain water. i drink a can of coke zero with my lunch and another with my dinner, i try to drink green tea with my breakfast but.. this almost never happens and i give in and have an iced coffee/milk tea (cold, milky tea), it's really bad, i get headaches but i can't bring myself to drink water. Blush

I would never drink coca cola, it's good for unblocking a toilet though, and cleaning engine parts. It doesn't even quench your thirst.

Could you not drink water with lemon in it. I have a glass of hot water with lemon slices in it every morning. Just squeeze some juice into the water, then chuck the rest of the lemon in.

P0lO · 17/08/2020 18:06

@User7312019

What is it you don’t like, the taste? Hmm Grow up, no wonder you get headaches.
Nice
EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 17/08/2020 18:06

I don't like the taste of our tap water, so used to drink cordial. However since starting running I am only drinking water and I'm used to it now. Also it has transformed my skin!

GabsAlot · 17/08/2020 18:06

i find it tastes metallic which isnt nice if you thirsty

Chanjer · 17/08/2020 18:07

There are things that hydrate you faster than water does, but they aren't more hydrating.

Skimmed milk provides longer term hydration than the equivalent amount of water, as will anything with a similar composition

Crankley · 17/08/2020 18:08

I don't drink tea or coffee, won't drink tap water so drink bottled carbonated water, with lemon slices and ice cubes in the summer. Try it, you may like it OP.

Ingridla · 17/08/2020 18:10

I hate to say it but this is really bad. Your organs need water to function. You could be in for some serious health issues if you don't find a way to start getting hydrated. You should drink a litre a day.

Hoggleludo · 17/08/2020 18:12

I have diabetes insipidus (not diabetes)

I drank near on 7 litres when I was diagnosed.

I literally wouldn’t survive on 2 cans of Diet Coke!

Hopeisnotastrategy · 17/08/2020 18:14

Tap water tastes very different in different places. In our village it's delicious, in my friend's three miles away it's disgusting. Find a water you like, or get a filter jug, and DRINK IT. It's really important for your health and will keep you looking young.

TorgosPizza · 17/08/2020 18:14

As others have said, I'd try flavoured water. You could try to work more liquids into your meals with soups, too, or just treat water as something you must do whether you feel like it or not, like brushing your teeth. Get a bottle of water and tell yourself you must finish it before X o'clock. If you notice that you feel better when you've drunk a bottle or two a day, maybe that will motivate you to keep doing it, even if you don't enjoy it.

Dingdong99 · 17/08/2020 18:15

I used to hate drinking water. But you can easily retrain yourself!

Just stop buying all the sodas and squash and just have water for a few days and you'll soon get used to it. I like water now

All those chemicals and sugar are not good for your brain

ChrissyPlummer · 17/08/2020 18:23

I drink tea with full fat milk, the occasional fruit/mint tea or a can/bottle of something fizzy. For work I take a bottle with a straw and make some cordial, usually raspberry or cherry. Everything is full sugar as I can’t tolerate sweeteners. Nothing wrong with not drinking water, I will occasionally have sparkling but don’t even really like bottled stuff.

TheGoogleMum · 17/08/2020 18:29

I dont drink water (maybe very rarely!). I dont like the taste so I end up drinking it very slowly. I mostly survive on tea and diet pop!

LightgreenBanana · 17/08/2020 18:30

Any liquid will do, but you sound like your having too much caffeine

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 17/08/2020 18:31

Squash is rank! Had never heard of it till I moved here - a chemical shitstorm full of sweeteners, mmm, said no one ever.

ChikiTIKI · 17/08/2020 18:32

Diet coke is just as bad for your teeth as sugary coke because its so acidic.

Just try some different cordials I am sure there are some you will like.

Fizzy water and a berocca type tablet tastes great, like a low sugar lucozade!

Thecobwebsarewinning · 17/08/2020 18:34

I don’t much like plain water either. I don’t think that’s uncommon. I don’t like fizzy drinks or fruit juice or squash either. I get my fluids from decaf coffee and several cups of herbal teas.

vanillandhoney · 17/08/2020 18:35

I barely drink any water either. We have a filter thing in our fridge but even that doesn't encourage me Blush

I drink tea, coffee, cold green tea, fruit juice or Pepsi max. I've never had a UTI or struggled with dehydration. You probably need more liquids but that doesn't have to be in the form of plain tap water.

Sparkling water, iced tea, juice, squash, ribena, soft drinks, cordial and all sorts count as liquid.

Toffeewhirl · 17/08/2020 18:35

I had a graphic illustration of the importance of water in the recent heat wave because my 20-year-old son had a seizure from dehydration. He had only had one Coke and one cup of tea during the day. In A&E, the doctor told him both Coke and tea contain caffeine, which is dehydrating, and said he should have been drinking lots of water because it was so hot.

A litre of saline solution on an IV drip transformed my son from a confused, shaky mess back to his normal self. It was astonishing to witness (like watering a peace lily!).

I'm not usually great at drinking water either, but I've been knocking it back since then. And I no longer need to remind my sons to keep drinking either.

Seriously, we need water to be healthy. You can drink flavoured water or herbal tea instead of plain water, but you need to have something!

queenqueenqueen · 17/08/2020 18:36

God this would make me poorly
Can't you try juice??

OLGADEEPOLGA · 17/08/2020 18:36

I never drink water. I drink coffee. Never water. Ever.

DianaT1969 · 17/08/2020 18:37

Can I beg you to change your thinking on artificial sugar? It is a toxin and causes an insulin response, similar to sugar where the body thinks it is getting sugar. It will catch up with you. If you like the taste of coke, you will like 100% cherry juice, no sugar added although there is obviously sugar in the fruit, diluted with sparkling water and served chilled. It's refreshing, tastes similar to come, but without the nasty stuff.
Peppermint tea is lovely.
Good quality cold black coffee whipped up in a blender with ice? It could be decaf.
Sparkling water with elderflower is nice.
Don't set yourself up for chronic inflammatory diseases now by keeping your body permanently dehydrated.

I wonder where are you from because I am not from UK and we had squash there.
EggysMom · 17/08/2020 18:41

I worry about those who don't drink much when young / middle-aged, that they might start drinking even less when they hit old age (fear of not finding a toilet, fear of mishaps, fear of overnight toilet trips) and then start getting UTIs. That's one reason why I force myself to drink lots of water now, so that it's become a habit by the time I stop working.

Pebblexox · 17/08/2020 18:44

Yes yabu. However I'm not judging as I used to be the same. All I drank was tea, fizzy pop or alcohol with the odd glass of water when I was thirsty and it was the nearest thing to me.
Last year I started dieting, so went from maybe 200ml of water a day, max to 2litres a day and it has changed my life. I rarely get headaches, I have so much more energy. Waking up is easier, sleeping is easier. My skin is so much better, and my immune system seems to have improved too. I didn't realise just how much my body needed water. I also used to 'hate' the taste, but honestly I've come to realise it's just water. Doesn't taste bad.
