i literally don't drink plain water. i drink a can of coke zero with my lunch and another with my dinner, i try to drink green tea with my breakfast but.. this almost never happens and i give in and have an iced coffee/milk tea (cold, milky tea), it's really bad, i get headaches but i can't bring myself to drink water. I mean its not great but I dont think you're in imminent danger. You'll also be getting water from your food, do you eat much fruit and veg? Its strange that you don't feel thirsty after only that many drinks a day. Other than that, you just have to force yourself to drink it. After a while it will become habit.

VanGoghsDog · 18/08/2020 02:20

@MoggyMittens23

The people who are saying they don't drink water, no ill effects.

Well no, maybe not yet. But it will all catch up with you in the end, no? A bit like years of drinking or smoking or overeating. Water is important for your body, it's a fact.

But when? My mum is eighty and never drinks water, never has.

She drinks jasmine tea, coffee, wine, beer and whisky. That's it. One tea, one coffee, one beer each day. Wine more variable, whisky occasionally.

Most days I drink a green tea or two, one glass of water with lunch and one with dinner. That's it. I'm 52, no I'll effects yet.

I think diet plays a part. Also, everyone is just different.

Feargalthecat · 18/08/2020 02:51

I never drink water either OP I don't like it. I drink when I'm thirsty of course and never suffer UTIs and do straw coloured wees all day.

I feel the drinking gallons of water is a marketing ploy by the manufacturers of bottled water. I'm in my 50s and there wasn't such an urge to reach a goal in the volume drank to feel healthy when it only came from your tap. Thirst was the indicator.

I also note I don't see many pensioners walking around glugging bottles of water like the young, most 70 and 80 year olds I know seem to just drink tea.

WaterOffADucksCrack · 18/08/2020 08:28

Coke, either type, is rubbish, It ought to be banned IMO! disgusting stuff. Can you imagine if we were all so self absorbed we thought anything we didn't like should be banned?! 😂

The MN snobbery around coke is alive and well it's hilarious!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/08/2020 08:36

I add squash when I don't fancy water - grapefruit Hi Juice is my current favourite, the no added sugar type - I usually have it a lot more diluted than recommended on the bottle.
Ginger beer is another favorite - waitrose is great, and sainsbury's has a real kick to it.

lilylion · 18/08/2020 08:38

I don’t like water either but now I have an overactive bladder I’ve had no choice but to get used to drinking it more.

doadeer · 18/08/2020 08:45

It's definately a relatively new thing to drink so much water, my grandma never does she only drinks tea or fresh orange.

I drink a lot, over 2 litres easily.

Who knows maybe when I'm 80 I'll look 50 🤣

Rubyupbeat · 18/08/2020 08:48

I M not keen on plain water, but have discovered the cold fusion tea bags. They are lovely, giving just a hint of flavour.

Bwlch · 18/08/2020 08:49

I think it's a generational thing. I drink water, my husband doesn't. My parents don't, his parents don't... and they are seriously old.

Water is important, but you don't have to drink it on it's own to get enough to stay healthy. A lot of it comes from the solid food you eat.

AlwaysLatte · 18/08/2020 08:50

Get a fridge with a filter and ice maker. I drink so much more water now that I can literally get cold filtered water on tap. And get a big Chilly bottle so that you can sip it throughout the day rather than drink down glasses at a time?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/08/2020 09:00

I think some level of snobbery around coke and similar is justified. It's Absolutely horrible for body to drink it all the time. 2+ cans a day will leave a mark. May it be teeth, heart, fat, or digestive tract... These drinks are not supposed to be part of an everyday diet.

PurpleDaisies · 18/08/2020 09:20

Get a fridge with a filter and ice maker.

That’s a practical suggestion. Confused

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/08/2020 09:21

It’s hard to imagine not liking water for most people as it sounds like not liking oxygen or something.

I agree you must be thirsty.

My Mum says she doesn’t like water but drinks fizzy water. Sorry if this has already been suggested. What about a piece of lemon in it? Or flavoured water? Or squash.

Those drinks you have can’t be doing you any good.

I feel really sad for you and sorry you’ve had such rude comments.

Bwlch · 18/08/2020 09:27

You can easily tell if you are drinking enough (or too much) water by looking at the colour of your urine.

to not drink water?
Enderman · 18/08/2020 09:32

For goodness sake no not everyone likes drinking water, the same as not everyone likes drinking hot drinks. As long as you are drinking and not dehydrated. My DH doesn’t drink plain water but buys those infusion bag things. I don’t drink water but drink endless amounts of peppermint tea. It’s all liquid.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/08/2020 09:35

I only really drink water, tea (both of those a lot) and wine Grin

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/08/2020 09:44

Lukewarm water makes me gag and I have been known to throw up

^^
That’s strange, black tea does that to me! I drink tea with milk / white tea all day long, but if I have it without milk I vomit!

Livpool · 18/08/2020 09:45

You must be dehydrated if that is all you drink.

Do you like squash? I drink squash when I can't be bothered drinking water as I don't really have hot drinks

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/08/2020 09:50

Do you live in a very soft water area? I find that doesn’t taste very nice. But you could try mineral water if that’s the case.

CorianderLord · 18/08/2020 11:40

@Bwlch what do they drink instead of water? Caffeine, alcohol and sugar are all dehydrating.

Honestly I chug water, I'd feel thirsty all day without it

PurpleDaisies · 18/08/2020 11:43

Caffeinated drinks are not dehydrating. Sugary drinks can be hydrating but not particularly good for you.

Alcohol doesn’t count towards your water intake.

CorianderLord · 18/08/2020 11:49

Yes I know alcohol doesn't count. But she said her mum only drank tea, coffee and booze. I can't see that being particularly healthy.

Ploughingthrough · 18/08/2020 11:50

I dont love plain water. Nevertheless I have a bottle on my desk and I try and fill it up twice a day and sip at it as I know its important. I do, however, drink 4 cups of herbal tea per day. Can you try different herbal and fruit teas till you find something you like?

Ploughingthrough · 18/08/2020 11:54

I don't like herbal teas, should be banned

😂😂 why would you ban a drink that has no sugar or caffeine and is therefore quite good for people , just because you don't personally like it?!

katy1213 · 18/08/2020 11:56

I don't like water but I drink gallons of tea.
