i literally don't drink plain water. i drink a can of coke zero with my lunch and another with my dinner, i try to drink green tea with my breakfast but.. this almost never happens and i give in and have an iced coffee/milk tea (cold, milky tea), it's really bad, i get headaches but i can't bring myself to drink water. Blush

I put water in my gin glass and have with ice and a slice of lemon or lime! Am not an alcoholic, but just makes me feel like I have a special glass!

SunshineCake · 17/08/2020 17:11

Coke is so bad for you. I used to drink a lot of it and would get headaches when I stopped. I now drink bottled water, still and sparkling all day and a couple of times a week I have lemonade. Tastes change. I don't mind water now. Helps I know it is doing me good and much better for me than anything else. I have sliced lemon in it sometimes too.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/08/2020 17:12

@murasaki

I grew up in a soft water area, and would merrily drink glasses of the stuff. Now I don't, and it's grim. So I drink a LOT of no sugar orange squash. A LOT of it. It's the only way I cna force the water down.

When I go back to my parents' house, I have a glass of water as a treat!

Have tried the filter kettles like Brita? I grew up with a well and have to use the filters, because tap water just tastes odd to me otherwise
sugagi · 17/08/2020 17:13

@SunshineCake i know it's bad for you.. but i tell myself it's not as bad as it could be because i have the one with no sugar Wink

I'm the same rarely drink water as I don't like it, when I do drink it I feel so much better but it is a chore, I drink bottled water when I do have it

GhostCurry · 17/08/2020 17:13

“ Some people don't like milk. Most of us do. Some don't like fizzy pop, a majority of others do. Some like tea but hate coffee. Some like coffee but hate tea. Why should plain water be different? Why are people not allowed to dislike the taste of it?”

Because we aren’t really designed to drink animal milk, or sugary drinks, or drinks made of leaves or roasted beans. We are, however, designed to drink water. Every human that ever existed has needed it, so to hear of people who don’t like it just sounds wrong - it’s a bit like someone saying “I don’t like the smell of air” or “I don’t like the feeling of food in my mouth”. Just sounds wrong. Water is a fundamental, all those other drinks you mention are optional.

QueenCT · 17/08/2020 17:14

I don't drink much plain water but probably 2l of v weak squash a day plus 6 or so mugs of tea

JingsMahBucket · 17/08/2020 17:14

@sugagi have you tried using a filter like a Brita pitcher? A lot of the water in the UK is very chalky and actually dehydrates me more. I need to use a pitcher to filter out the elements in the water.

lljkk · 17/08/2020 17:15

A lot of people never drink room temperature still or tap water. It's not unusual to be like that.

I grew up with nasty tasting water (safe but very chlorinated) so tend to try to drink anything else. In recent heat I've been putting a peppermint tea bag in a cup of room temperature tap water. Anything but plain water.

EmpressSuiko · 17/08/2020 17:15

I only drink tea, sometimes fresh juice.
Plain water makes me feel sick and I gag when drinking it, it also taste like rocks, I’m ok with flavoured water though.

Jargo · 17/08/2020 17:17

The headaches are probably caused by dehydration. Do you think with clarity or do you find yourself a bit muddled at times?

I would try a water filter, sliced fruit or berries in a bottle of water, chilled, adding a dash of squash into it (not too much on the squash) and setting yourself a daily target.

Herbal teas are supposed to be good too, and you can drink them cold.

thevassal · 17/08/2020 17:21

stop with all the pitiful "I try to drink some squash....I try and force myself to drink green tea...." It's having a drink ffs not performing Herculean labours! Stop acting like it's some massive chore and end your half-hearted faffing and just accept it as something you HAVE to do for your health like eating/taking medication/having a shower. Stop overthinking it, just make sure first thing in the morning you have a hot drink of something before you do anything else, then set an alarm for another at 11, and swap your coke zeros at lunch and dinner - just make drinking a normal, automatic part of your daily routine not this horrible chore you seem to have exaggerated it into.

You don't have to drink plain water if you don't like it but between sparkling water/flavoured water/normal and decaf teas and coffees, fruit teas, chai/cappucinos etc, hot chocolate, any flavoured juice, even milk/milkshakes there must be some things you can drink!

Bilingualspingual · 17/08/2020 17:22

Apparently the old rule of ‘you must drink 2L of water a day’ was misinterpreted. It was originally meant to be inclusive of food and drink. Fruit and veg contain water. Fish contains water. Meat contains water. Hell, even Coke Zero is made predominantly of water.

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 17/08/2020 17:23

I dont like water and used to drink pints of squash , after several fillings and a couple of root canal I have been drinking it for the past 7 years. Its much nicer cold could you try getting a bag of ice to keep in the freezer, I actually convinced my oh to buy a fridge with a water an ice dispenser.

MoggyMittens23 · 17/08/2020 17:23

@tiredanddangerous

Nobody needs to be drinking litres of water every day

I mean personally I do, we are all different after all.. I feel like shit if I don’t drink enough, and despite drinking plenty I have been hospitalised with dehydration twice. I really do need it. It’s just the way I am.

@sugagi could you try downing a pint as soon as you get up and then another mid afternoon? Maybe getting it done and dusted would be better than sipping on it all day if you hate it?

ExhaustedFlamingo · 17/08/2020 17:23

Lots of sanctimonious comments on here. If you like water, good for you - no need to be snotty to others who don't.

I enjoy drinking iced water when I'm really hot or exercising but find it hard to get down at any other time. I drink sugar-free squash instead. I don't drink tea or coffee but like a fizzy drink. Shoot me.

It's about balance and moderation. And getting sufficient fluids.

As long as you're getting hydrated and aren't piling in sugar and caffeine etc, it's OK to add flavouring. Makes virtually no difference.

KaptainKaveman · 17/08/2020 17:24

I drink between 1 and 2 litres of water per day. As soon as i stop, or forget, or leave my bottle at home or whatever, I notice it a lot. I feel a lot worse and look worse too.

OP it doesn't even taste of anything! what's the problem?

CheetasOnFajitas · 17/08/2020 17:24

I love this!

OP, I asked the question before your last update but you didn’t reply- do you really never take a slug of water if you are out exercising or on a long walk, the types of activities where most people would have a bottle of water with them? Would you be keeping cans/bottles of coke in your bag to drink from after a run or a cycle or any other time when you are properly thirsty?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 17/08/2020 17:25

I don't drink water or squash either. Just 4-5 cups of decaff coffee and a can of caffine free cola. I just don't get thirsty enough for any more than that. If I drank as much as some on here I'd be spending most of my time peeing.

EmpressSuiko · 17/08/2020 17:28

@KaptainKaveman I have to disagree, it tastes awful! I have never liked the taste of water, my ds also thinks it taste disgusting yet yet my dh and dd day it taste of anything! It’s a regular debate in our house lol

If I’m drinking plain water I prefer sparkling, I mostly drink water with cordial in it.

sugagi · 17/08/2020 17:31

@CheetasOnFajitas i just.. don't really drink anything until we get home/to a cafe/to a shop

Grow up op. Tough you dont like it but your body needs it. I dont like it either but I suck it up and get on with life.

MsEllany · 17/08/2020 17:33

@bridgetreilly

She’s drinking plenty of fluids and there is water in food.

She isn't, though. She's drinking less than half the recommended daily amount of fluid.

No you’re right, I re-read that after.

She should be drinking more but pure water isn’t necessary. Recommended, sure.
