i literally don't drink plain water. i drink a can of coke zero with my lunch and another with my dinner, i try to drink green tea with my breakfast but.. this almost never happens and i give in and have an iced coffee/milk tea (cold, milky tea), it's really bad, i get headaches but i can't bring myself to drink water. For those people saying do you not get thirsty? Answer is no. I'm terrible at drinking enough fluid. A normal day is two coffees and one glass of sparkling water. I asked the GP why I was never thirsty and he basically said your body can give up sending the thirst signal Shock I do try to drink more but it's hard when I'm never thirsty (and don't get headaches or feel tired etc)

Whenwillthisbeover · 17/08/2020 16:52

Very rare I drink water, and then its sparking. I drink lots of tea and very weak squash, that's about it.

CleverCatty · 17/08/2020 16:53

To be fair to you OP, I only drink at most 2 large glasses of water a day. I find it boring.

If I exercise or go on a long walk then I drink more water.

I do drink countless cups of tea including decaff and camomile after 2pm.

blue25 · 17/08/2020 16:54

Having 2 cans of fizzy drink a day is really bad for you. Drinking water is just an easy way to help your health. Why wouldn’t you do it?

uglyface · 17/08/2020 16:55

Would you try carbonated water? While I can drink tap water I’m not keen on the metallic taste, yet I can sink litres of fizzy water a day.

JinglingHellsBells · 17/08/2020 16:56

You don't have to drink WATER as it is, but you need to drink things with water in them!

Coke, either type, is rubbish, It ought to be banned IMO! disgusting stuff.

If you can't drink 'water' why not try fruit teas? Herbal teas? Flavoured waters? Mineral water? Hot water with slice of lemon?

TonTonMacoute · 17/08/2020 16:57

I'm not quite as extreme as you OP, and I would rather drink cats piss than Coke, but I find drinking from a much smaller glass more often helps.

I'm also not a massive fan of plain water but I have a Soda Stream to fizz up water and make it a bit more interesting.

Most of the water you need comes from your food anyway, you could try upping foodstuffs that have a higher water content if you are worried.

eatsleepread · 17/08/2020 16:57

I'm the same, OP. I drink tea and some squash at a push.
I know I should drink more, but was never very good at doing what's good for me. Blush

CheetasOnFajitas · 17/08/2020 16:58

What do you do if you are out exercising/on a country walk/ in a hot country? if you don’t do exercise or long walks maybe give them a try to work up a thirst?

Popc0rn · 17/08/2020 16:58

You do need more than 3 drinks a day, even if it's not water. I never used to drink much and feel much better now I'm in the habit of drinking throughout the day. You could try...

  • Sparkling water, either on it's own or with some sugar free squash in to give it some flavour. I don't like plain water with orange squash, but I love it with sparkling, it's really refreshing. You can get 2L bottles of sparkling water for less than 40p from most supermarkets.
  • Get some ice cube trays, any drink tastes better with ice.
  • Get a fancy glass, sounds ridiculous but I read someone on here had done this to help them remember/want to drink more water and it's true, a crystal tumbler with ice and slice of lemon is much more appealing than a glass of room temperature tap water.
  • Track how much you've drank on your phone, most smart phones have a built in health app that can do this. Or get one of those bottles with the times written on the side.
MsEllany · 17/08/2020 16:58

She’s drinking plenty of fluids and there is water in food.

Headaches may or may not be related but a liquid is a liquid. It might be less than recommended but it’s not massively below that.

I don’t like herbal teas, should be banned.

bridgetreilly · 17/08/2020 16:59

You need more liquid. If it's not water, that's not the end of the world, but you need a lot more fluid intake than you appear to be getting, and that IS a serious problem. Drink more: your kidneys will thank you.

BanningTheWordNaice · 17/08/2020 16:59

Yanbu, your life, your choice unless you complain to others about your headaches then yabvvvvu.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/08/2020 17:00

I assume you had a talk with a gp about it

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/08/2020 17:00

It isn't necessary to drink plain water, it can be any fluid as long as you are drinking enough. Avoid sugary drinks obviously.

bridgetreilly · 17/08/2020 17:01

She’s drinking plenty of fluids and there is water in food.

She isn't, though. She's drinking less than half the recommended daily amount of fluid.

ClickandForget · 17/08/2020 17:02

I have a friend who won't drink water. She says it tastes awful. Even bottled water- any water. I just don't get how water can taste awful.
(although I accept that to her, it does) I drink loads of decaff tea, coffee and fizzy water without even thinking about it. Habit of a lifetime I suppose.

Elieza · 17/08/2020 17:03

You wouldn’t catch me drinking tap water either. Yuk.

Try different mineral waters. They all taste different. Volvic, Evian etc

If you can’t drink any then try fizzy waters. Again there are many brands.

Some is better than none. As pp have said you’re risking your health. Put squash or fruit in them and see if that helps. Don’t give up. One bottle of a few types won’t break the bank, under a tenner. Worth it if it saves your health!

When you wipe after going to the loo the toilet roll shouldn’t really look yellow and neither should the wee in the pan. If it does you are dehydrated.

DaisyDreaming · 17/08/2020 17:03

Plain water has no less benefits if you add some flavouring. If you really really can’t force yourself to drink some more (nothing wrong with milky tea) can you add some foods with lots of fluid? Jelly? Ice lollies even apples. Obviously you are then consuming sugar or sweetner if you add squash but at least you won’t be dehydrated

sugagi · 17/08/2020 17:03

i do try to drink some squash, but i don't even like that Blush however, starting this thread and seeing some of the responses have given me a kick up the ass and i'm halfway through a litre bottle of peach squash

😂 sorry

murasaki · 17/08/2020 17:10

I grew up in a soft water area, and would merrily drink glasses of the stuff. Now I don't, and it's grim. So I drink a LOT of no sugar orange squash. A LOT of it. It's the only way I cna force the water down.

When I go back to my parents' house, I have a glass of water as a treat!
