i literally don't drink plain water. i drink a can of coke zero with my lunch and another with my dinner, i try to drink green tea with my breakfast but.. this almost never happens and i give in and have an iced coffee/milk tea (cold, milky tea), it's really bad, i get headaches but i can't bring myself to drink water. Blush

I love bovril in the winter, iced coffee too.

sugagi · 17/08/2020 17:53

@CheetasOnFajitas it's for 2 glasses worth.. so i make up a strong tea with say 4 tea bags with 2 cups of boiling water, and add a tbsp of golden syrup, and then in the morning/throughout the day if i feel like it, i add half of the tea and some milk.. it makes 2 big glasses worth Smile

Google kidney stones Shock! I’m a poor drinker but I force myself as it can’t back in a recent blood test my kidneys aren’t functioning as well as they could be for my age.
I’ve upped my intake with filling a litre bottle and sipping during the day, buying elderflower cordial and putting orange juice, lime in ginger into plain water.

Diceroll · 17/08/2020 17:55

Actually a PP had a good suggestion of just drinking a glass first thing in the morning, and then you're already on your way before you realise what's going on. Also squash with fizzy water and ice cubes (apple squash works best imo) is really nice. I like that some people are trying to argue the fact that it's good to drink something water based (more so than coke); our bodies are made of water! I can see why people don't like the taste, but saying it's not necessary or beneficial is so weird.

Chanjer · 17/08/2020 17:56

There are things that are literally more hydrating than water though

BombyliusMajor · 17/08/2020 17:56

I’m with you, OP - I hate drinking plain water. It makes me feel sick!

fruitpastille · 17/08/2020 17:57

I drink around 4-5 cups of tea with a half tsp sugar in plus a glass of squash with each meal and maybe in between if it's really hot. Occasional peppermint tea at night time. And wine Grin I've tried drinking 2l water a day and honestly felt no difference. I'm pretty healthy.

Iverunoutofnames · 17/08/2020 17:57

My MIL didn’t believe in drinking liquids. She drank a few tiny cups of coffee during the day. Honestly it caused all sorts of issues in the last few years of her life. She was on a medication which required her to drink a lot of liquids. She just didn’t. It actually caused her some health issues (and I suspect the medication didn’t work properly, shortening her life).
She thought I was weird for drinking water.

managedmis · 17/08/2020 17:57

Have you ever actually had a UTI / severe dehydration though?

BiscuitLovers098124 · 17/08/2020 17:58

this is so bad for you op!! Drinking water is literally the easiest way to be healthy.

Ninkanink · 17/08/2020 17:59

For two glasses I’d say that’s fine - that’s a teaspoon per glass.

Ginger or elderflower cordials (or any number of other flavours) are good because again, you can slowly increase the dilution ratio and you really don’t notice as they’re not hugely sweet to begin with.

sugagi · 17/08/2020 17:59

@managedmis i had a lot when i was younger but i was drinking less than i do now (a few tiny sips of milk in the morning, a few sips of water when i was at school when the dinner ladies forced us, and a few sips of the drink my parents forced me to have with my dinner, sometimes she let me have coke as a 'treat' which i didn't mind drinking though!). i probably drank more cranberry juice than water Grin

I got us a filter jug and it's become easier to drink water. We just leave it on the side in the kitchen and I'll drink a glass before each meal. I'm not keen on water. Would live on decaf coffee if I could but I was so dehydrated.

HeartGirls · 17/08/2020 18:01

I've not drunk a glass of water since my teens and I'm in my 50's now.

I drink about 2litres off very weak milky coffee per day plus about a litre of something fizzy

I'm absolutely fine

Mediaevalmiss · 17/08/2020 18:01

No wonder so many people are unhealthy!!

namechange12a · 17/08/2020 18:01

I also don't like plain water OP, never have. I think it tastes greasy. I have no idea why! However, I took control and started drinking carbonated water. I love it. I add fresh lime so I'm also getting my vit C.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 17/08/2020 18:03

an elderly lady of 96 told me Water was for the poor, when i offered her a glass. Elderly ladies tend to prefer squash and/or tea.

try water op, it is beneficial

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/08/2020 18:04

Water is a fundamental, all those other drinks you mention are optional. All those other drinks contain water.

What @Bilingualspingual said is true. You need hydration but it doesn't have to be plain water.

GabsAlot · 17/08/2020 18:04

i drink lemonade all day and have one cup of tea i take water with me when i go out but thats it cant just drink a glass

year5teacher · 17/08/2020 18:04

Oh my god, this stresses me out. I drink so much water. I do think it tastes funny in some places, like if the water is very soft, but you get used to it. Ultimately I think you need to force yourself to drink it because “I don’t like it” isn’t a great reason for this as an adult.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 17/08/2020 18:04

i find the younger people at work are the ones who drink water and the rest of us drink coffee/tea

year5teacher · 17/08/2020 18:04

What about one of those filter bottle things you can put mint in? Or cucumber? That might be nice!

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 17/08/2020 18:05

i only drink water when it is hot

Diceroll · 17/08/2020 18:06

There are things that are literally more hydrating than water though

There are things that hydrate you faster than water does, but they aren't more hydrating.

Chanjer · 17/08/2020 18:06

because “I don’t like it” isn’t a great reason for this as an adult.

wut?
