'chester freezer'

I'm not defending chester draws, but at least I can understand how it happened.

I've just seen someone talk about their 'chester freezer' on Facebook. There's no excuse.

The word chalet was deeply underrepresented amongst a forest of shalleys, shaleys, chaleys, shallys, shallies and a shalee

It does make you realise that a large proportion of the U.K. population is functionally illiterate.

Aria20 · 15/08/2020 16:27

@Haworthia I was going to say surely that's pirate talk Grin

LynseyLou1982 · 15/08/2020 16:30

Aloud instead of allowed

blissfulllife · 15/08/2020 16:30

I saw someone selling a "new mattick drill"

cariadlet · 15/08/2020 16:30

I'd recommend going on YouTube and searching for Dave Gorman: It's a doggy dog world. He's got some great examples.

Aria20 · 15/08/2020 16:31

@KatnissK love the car being "toad" Grin
And "Bowen Arrow" is classic Grin

Joolsin · 15/08/2020 16:32

I saw "shinion" on a hairdresser's website recently - took me a while to work out - but when I saw that all the pics were of updos, I realised they meant "chignon".

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 15/08/2020 16:32

We used to have a shop in the 1970/80s called Chester Chairs....I always thought they had missed an excellent opportunity....I think it was half way down Watergate Street opposite where Weinholts used to be (for us old Cestrians)

JellyfishandShells · 15/08/2020 16:33

@lazylinguist

I always like 'Wallah!" As in a description of a house "You walk into the living room and... wallah! A beautiful inglenook fireplace". Grin
Sounds like Del from Only Fools and Horses !
roastbeetrootsalad · 15/08/2020 16:34

I think from now on I'm going to use Escape Goat as I'm loving that image! Grin

When we sold our house we were dismayed to find that the estate agent had listed it on Rightmove as having a Gallery kitchen. When we said to her that there is a typo.. it says Gallery kitchen.. she clearly had no idea what we were talking about. Quick look at other houses they had listed for sale evidenced that she thought a galley kitchen was the same as a kitchen for displaying art work.

FortunesFave · 15/08/2020 16:34

What about the stunning "Trickle Treat" at Halloween?

I'd never heard of that one but someone on MN posted a snippet of a FB convo and it said "Carnt wait for Trickle treating with my little one" or somesuch.

I mean it's toddler level shit that...others here said they'd also seen it about.

Not being rude but come on! I think literacy levels have gone RIGHT down over the past 20 years. Take my surname...I always have to spell it out to phone operators these days....never used to...now not one of them knows how to spell it.

It's a common animal. Think "Elephant" but not that. It's about that well known.

I saw someone selling a "new mattick drill"

Damn. I was looking for an old one.

Used to live near Kew in London. Was giving a friend directions over the phone and told her to take the turning on the roundabout marked Kew.

She got very confused when there was no Q on the sign.

FortunesFave · 15/08/2020 16:36

Ooh and I saw "Rule of thump" on a website for kit houses recently!

Rule of thump! 😂

FortunesFave · 15/08/2020 16:38

tiredanddangerous that's interesting re "Blime Me" ...the saying "Blimey" comes from "God blind me" or "God blame me" ....at least that ones devolving towards it's original form!

Happyadventurer · 15/08/2020 16:39

Toot sweet. Ugh!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 15/08/2020 16:41

@Haworthia

You know that noise people make when they come across something cute? How would you spell it? To me, it’s “Ahh!”

So it throws me when people on FB “arrr” or (even worse, “rrr” Grin

“Arrr what a lovely baby” just makes me think a pirate is speaking.

'Awww". Surely?
PenCreed · 15/08/2020 16:42

My colleague, who has a PhD in literature so really should be literate, said that something would be found in "Jen's desk draw" a while ago. It was the first time I'd seen that outside of these threads.

Someone I know, who would absolutely judge people on that kind of thing, used "mute point" on social media recently. I am a terrible person, because it amused me greatly. Obviously sooner or later I'll cock up myself - I must confess that I stare at "en route" every time.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/08/2020 16:42
@CaptainMyCaptain I think it must be bon appetit.
Yes I got it eventually, thanks. I kept thinking it was meant to be some kind of tea.

FortunesFave · 15/08/2020 16:42

"Misty "Aww is different to "Aah" though.

What about "On root to the shops!"

pawpawpawpaw · 15/08/2020 16:43

A few years ago I saw an eBay listing for a Lloyd Loom 'otterman'.

DotForShort · 15/08/2020 16:48

@KatnissK

Not sure if it was real but someone on Facebook shared a photo of a sign outside a business saying "if you park here your car will be TOAD!" I quite liked that.
I love this one. I'm imagining someone casting a spell over the car and transforming it into a toad. Grin

I've seen "escape goat" before, which I think sounds quite sweet. Your elaborate explanation is brilliant, @OilBaron.

I'm very fond of "it's a doggy dog world."

This made me chuckle
