'chester freezer'

I'm not defending chester draws, but at least I can understand how it happened.

I've just seen someone talk about their 'chester freezer' on Facebook. There's no excuse.

DD2 used to call her forehead her hairforder until she was about 6. She started when she was 2 and when we asked her why she called it that, it was because it was forward of her hair. Makes sense, I suppose.
In my work I’ve seen lots of interesting spellings for medical complaints, but the most memorable have been ‘hermermaids’ and ‘Tonsel lighters’

I once had a child in my class who was off sick. Her older sister came in with a message about it and I asked what was the matter. The sister said she had 'mappledappleitis'. When the sick child came back to school I asked her mum about it and she also told me 'mappledappleitis'. I asked a GP friend what it could have been and she said it was probably 'mesentericadonitis', I'd never heard of it so, at least, I learnt something new.

Just spotted this on another thread, so spent about five minutes finding this to add it!

struggling to make ends meat
I managed not to comment that might be cheaper to go vegetarian Grin

and deep joy, there's a few more pages to read since I last looked!

KatherineParr4 · 21/08/2020 09:18

This thread is a real antidote to stress. Hilarious!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 21/08/2020 09:19

And reading the post immediately above, no I'd not heard of mesenteric adenitis either, reminded me that as a child I used to think that diarrhea (had no idea of how to spell it) was an ear infection.

Just seen someone on Facebook looking for a rubbish collection for “brick a brat”. Glorious.

therarebear · 21/08/2020 22:19

Fair do's...

Oooooh. Burnt ends😍 Easy to make😁

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/08/2020 15:44

This one is probably an Americanism rather than a mistake but it annoys me intensely.

So fun!

It's either 'so much fun' or 'such fun'.

Butteredtoast55 · 22/08/2020 22:22

CaptainmyCaptain, I completely agree! ‘So fun’ drives me mad.

Just thought of another one

“Oh I’m bias about that”

It’s BIASED

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/08/2020 11:39

I saw a post about 'passing the book' on Facebook this morning. Mind you, I'm not sure what the 'buck' refers to.

cariadlet · 24/08/2020 13:21

@CaptainMyCaptain "pass the buck" and "the buck stops here" both come from poker. They're quite old (from fairly lawless Wild West times). An object like a knife with a buck handle would be passed around the table to keep track of whose turn it was to deal.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/08/2020 19:00

Thanks, that's interesting.

KatherineParr4 · 27/08/2020 06:19

People who say ‘gonna’ and ‘wanna’ drive me mad.. or ‘can I get’ rather than ‘may I have’.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/08/2020 06:40

oooh - I thought of this thread yesterday - it's grown, I have catching up to do!...

people that insist on saying minimetre instead of millimetre always amuses me

Dressingdown1 · 27/08/2020 07:28

MIL had a friend who went into a home for the interminably ill.

liverpoolnana · 27/08/2020 08:08

Another mnemonic for 'diarrhoea' is 'Dash in a rush, run, hurry or else accident'.

Although my spellchecker keeps telling me that spelling 'diarrhoea' like that is incorrect. Is it different in the US? (The spelling, that is)..

scullie · 27/08/2020 09:50

This is one I haven't seen before that I've just read on social...

That bloke thinks he's the bs and es.

Classic!

Iamnotminterested · 27/08/2020 10:07

@KatherineParr4

Ooh I hate that too! In coffee shops, "Can I get a lar-tay?"

Don't even get me started on how the majority pronounce 'latte'...

KatherineParr4 · 27/08/2020 18:04

Noticed several posters using’ bare with me’ today. Grrrr!!
Also ‘he done wrong’.
I itch to issue corrections but don’t want to be perceived as a pedant.

Katerinakaterinaki · 27/08/2020 21:04

I can't stand it when people say 'bought' instead of 'brought'. Really, did you buy it?

Delilah21D00LoT · 28/08/2020 08:20

"Chase lounge" "chais lounge" "chase long" for 'Chaise Longue'!
Really irritating!

RaraRachael · 28/08/2020 10:44

Iamnotinterested how should latte be pronounced as I suppose it could depend on regional accents.

Some people I know say laaaahty, others latty (rhymes with batty) - are either of those correct?
