To ask how often you shower?

I only shower 3-4 times a week, to be honest. Is that gross? I especially will skip a shower if my hair looks good.

I do, however, change undies every morning.

You know it is possible to have a wash with out having a shower.

SerenDippitty · 15/08/2020 11:33

Lots of MNers don’t actually believe this.

Pebblexox · 15/08/2020 11:33

Every couple of days, I have eczema and sensitive skin so if I was too shower to more regularly it would be damaging to my skin.
I do wash daily though, so face, hands and pits.

vanillandhoney · 15/08/2020 11:49

Everyday.

I walk dogs for a living and regularly come home covered in a mix of sweat, suncream, dog slobber, muddy water and dog hair Grin this week you can add sea water to the mix as I've actually ended up going swimming with the dogs!

However, even when I had a sedentary job I showered daily. I feel grimy and not quite right if I don't shower everyday.

hauntedvagina · 15/08/2020 11:52

@eaglejulesk I can't fathom it either, although I'd imagine if you researched it there'd be some sort of correlation between tv advertising for shower gel / daily washing.

I find it frustrating when you see people complaining about their children's eczema, nappy rash or dry skin with questions about what is the best emollient to add to their daily bath. The skin is an organ, it knows how to look after itself better than any bottle of shower gel does, leave it alone and you'll be amazed by the results.

NameChange84 · 15/08/2020 11:55

Every day.

However in this heat, doing some physically challenging DIY and soaking the sheets with sweat in the night, I’ve had to shower twice a day recently.

I couldn’t not shower every day. I’ve people in my life that make a song and dance about how it’s wrong to shower every day and honestly, honestly, they do have body odour even if they attempt to cover it with sprays etc.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/08/2020 11:59

Whaat?

But my showers are 20-30 minutes long - as I also exfoliate my body.

I mean, I exfoliate but can't see why you'd need to be in 20 - 30 mins.

Such a weird thread. I shower daily, twice if I exercise.

I also think: your poor DH, who you say is now self-conscious about how he smells after meeting you. He can't be 'smelly' straight after a shower 🤨

DottyFlossie · 15/08/2020 12:11

Daily as do DH and DD17. We also wash our hair every day.

Emmelina · 15/08/2020 12:18

Could your sense of smell be off, op?

I thought that the current recommendation is daily bath plus emollients? That’s what my ds paediatric consultant said is what the latest research has shown is beneficial to keep bacteria levels down to prevent infection.

hauntedvagina · 15/08/2020 12:40

@Redhair23 I'm referring more to the cases where children have been bathed daily since birth with scented soaps and gels causing their skin to be stripped of natural oils and completely dry out. Not serious cases of eczema with an environmental or allergy based trigger. Apologies if this wasn't clear in my post.

misschoices · 15/08/2020 13:14

Forgot to mention DP has had ongoing athletes foot for 15 years. His toes are falling off. Sad

Every single day without fail, sometimes more when exercising or being active. Ditto if cooking and smelling of food. I like smelling clean and fresh.

misschoices · 15/08/2020 13:21

What really bothers me is that DP won't do anything about his body odour, such as wear cologne or dry brush or clean better in the shower.

Along with his feet fungus issues, I just have a hard time finding him attractive at the moment. He isn't clean obv if he still smells after a shower.

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 15/08/2020 13:23

Why are you with this minger? FFS, have some self-respect and get him out.

Abouttimemum · 15/08/2020 13:26

Every other day. Wash my hair once or twice a week. It’s been hot this week though so I showered most mornings. I always have a wash though if I don’t have a shower.

SerenDippitty · 15/08/2020 13:29

OP tell him to get to the doctor who will give him a course of tablets for the athlete's foot/toenail infection. He does not have to put up with it and neither do you.

misschoices · 15/08/2020 13:30

@SerenDippitty

He believes the tablets will harm him, that he will treat it naturally as he has done for 15 years.

OP posts:
misschoices · 15/08/2020 13:35

@InDeoEstMeaFiducia

Are you suggesting I kick him out due to his body odour and fungus problem? That is harsh- tho I'm now wondering how long I can be with someone who smells all day.

He won't wear the cologne I bought him for Christmas, he won't do anything about the smell.

OP posts:
misschoices · 15/08/2020 13:37

DP hair is also greasy by tea time, and he showers everyday, sometimes twice a day.

It's like he has more oil glands in his head and body than most people? I find it difficult to deal with.

OP posts:
pontiouspilates · 15/08/2020 13:43

Every day. I can't function before a shower! Sometimes twice a day if I go for a run later in the day or it's a particularly hot day.

Enoughnowstop · 15/08/2020 13:52

Daily as a general rule. Less often during lockdown.

QueenOfPain · 15/08/2020 13:53

Usually daily, but sometimes I skip a day if it’s a day off perhaps and I’m not going anywhere and just want to vegetate.

My showers are usually at night, or before I start work at 4pm. I’m not a particularly smelly person, anti perspirant is very effective at making sure I don’t have any body odour at all.

Hair is washed far less frequently, as it’s incredibly long, thick and unruly, so once I’ve done it, I want to keep it dry and straight for as long as possible. It’s not lasting as long in the heat though.

misschoices · 15/08/2020 13:56

There's really no reason during coronavirus to shower every single day or twice a day- Esp if you WFH like I do. I do yoga at home with a dvd. My house is spotless and cleaned everyday.

It feels great to shower- I admit, the warm water feels great to take the stress away. But most people are not out as much as before- we are washing hands all day (at least I am ) and not around as many people.

To each their own.
