DH says I’m an embarrassing nerd

Hindsite · 11/08/2020 11:35

I play the Sims. I have lately taken to building and have built a number of homes. I’m getting really into it and have renovated a whole town. I have created an instagram page for my Sims game and share all my builds on there as well as my stories. My next project is making an abandoned Wild West town like the ones we have come across in America. This will likely take a month or so and then once I’m done I’ll move families into it who will then renovate the town.

Last night DH came across my Instagram and went off on one saying I’m a complete giant nerd and he sent the pics to all his family and to his mate. His mate asked if him if I’ve stopped playing grandma turismo because he kept beaten me. DH didn’t know I was playing this car game online with his mate and is now saying I’m an embarrassment and I’ll be the joke of his work place.

Wtf. Is it really so bad to have interests that don’t affect anyone else even if I am a Middle Aged woman?

Damn you op, I just spent £24.99 on Sims3 and an expansion pack on Steam.
I'll probably get addicted again like I did with version one and two.
Damn you.

Cam2020 · 11/08/2020 16:59

*The spoilsports ruined it a little with the pool. If you take away the ladder, they just pull themselves up and out of it. Can't do it if you build a fence or wall around 'em though 😈

And now we can lock them in the basement with a hungry cowplant for added fun. Mwahaha.*

Or walling them in. I did that more than once on Sims 2 to that NPC called Goopy Gills as his face annoyed me so much.

I've found my people Grin and now I want to play The Sims.

Chickychickydodah · 11/08/2020 17:00

I’m 58 and play sims and other PS4 games, just tell you oh to grow up and get a fucking life😡

Curiosity101 · 11/08/2020 17:12

Your DH is very very unreasonable.

Sims used to be my favourite game. Now my favourite game is Ark. I don't plan on growing out of gaming anytime soon. 😄

He's a dick, and a wild west town in the sims sounds awesome by the way.
If you love building in the sims you might enjoy fallout 76, it combines the fun of building houses with trying to survive in a post apocalyptic society.

I'm not sure it's normal to create an Instagram page dedicated to your Sims world but I think a lot of adults actually play Sims.Is it taking up a lot of your time? Could that be his issue?

In a world where people create facebook and Instagram pages for their pets is a sims themed one really that strange? Who the fuck cares about what's "normal" or not anyway? It's a creative hobby and the OP likes showing off her creations, what's wrong with that? It's quite a popular thing amongst gamers, making video tours of your camp in fallout 76 for example or showing off your minecraft creations.
And if the OPs husband had an issue with how much time she's spending on her hobby wouldn't he have just said that instead of calling her names?

51Pegasusb · 11/08/2020 17:48

Your DH is an arsehole.
I have also played the sims since the first edition. Love it. I'm playing 4 too, I have some huge families with lots of generations, interspersed with the odd Alien and Vampire, makes for some interesting kids !
My DD 16 also plays and is in awe of my houses and families.
I'm waiting for a sale to then buy the Eco living expansion. I also love City Skylines and Sim city - although this is in desperate need of an update I find the city area too small..
We all play C&C together too.
Nothing wrong with being a nerd Wink

riotlady · 11/08/2020 17:53

You sound great, your husband sounds like the local middle school bully!

Brokensunrise · 11/08/2020 17:59

Since I have found my Sims people, as a
psychopath teen on Sims 2 I used to create fires by putting a sofa in front of a lit fireplace.....and the Sims died...does this still work?! I have Sims 4 but haven’t played much!

FilledSoda · 11/08/2020 17:59

Your DH is very odd .
Does he put a great deal of store in what he imagines other people think ?
No one cares .
He does sound quite immature and nasty to be honest .
He might find he goes down in others estimation though , setting up his wife for ridicule.

LookAtThatCritter · 11/08/2020 18:03

I’d ditch the DH and keep the sims! Got the university pack for sims 4 recently. Not as good as sims 3 but it’ll do Smile

Hindsite · 11/08/2020 18:33

Thank you to those that have followed me ☺️ I hope it doesn’t come across like I posted this for Instagram followers!

I think I tried fallout once but couldn’t get into it, then again if I remember rightly I only played it for half hour or so 🤦‍♀️ I’ll have to give it another go.

For those into the sims, have you all been watching Spark’d? It’s a reality TV competition with the big you tubers on as contestants completing sims challenges for £100k. Plumbella and SimLicy was on it. It’s on YouTube ... make sure you go to episode one ☺️

Does he belittle you generally ? I'm guessing yes. Horrible. And sending it to everyone seems like he's trying to bith embarrasses you & persuade your support network that you're not worthy of them too.

Andahelterskelterroundmylittle · 11/08/2020 18:45

🤣🤣🤣 I was searching out random graves of strangers to take a pic ..and playing Vetenary Hospital Australia on an old DS..
Tell him to shut it

QueenOfPain · 11/08/2020 18:50

You need to set up a twitch stream building your towns and make a fuck load of money. Show your dickhead husband who’s a nerd then!

Jurassiclover · 11/08/2020 18:52

@Hindsite Also followed you! Yessss about to start watching Spark'd actually! Who's your favourite sims YouTubers? I love plumbella, vixella, deligracy, occasionally watch James Turner for his builds

AmyandPhilipfan · 11/08/2020 18:55

Oooh, I love The Sims! My favourite was Sims 2 but when we moved last year we packed the disks away and I think they ended up in the attic. Now I play Sims 3. I have got 4 too but prefer 3 with the open neighbourhood. I really hope they put that back in if they make 5! My husband thinks it’s a bit nerdy too (more so when I played Sims 2 and had a notebook of their names and ages as I played a rotation of families with aging off)

At the moment in the Sims 3 I’m playing a family of parents plus 4 toddlers and a baby on epic lifetime. I think the mum might be regretting her lifetime wish of raising 5 children! I’m not very good at building so just play with what’s already there.

I also knit and sometimes go to a knitting group. If my husband drops me off he sometimes shouts out of the window ‘enjoy losers’ club’ then drives off, but it is said in jest! He would never send pictures to people to make fun of me!

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale · 11/08/2020 18:58

@Brokensunrise

Since I have found my Sims people, as a psychopath teen on Sims 2 I used to create fires by putting a sofa in front of a lit fireplace.....and the Sims died...does this still work?! I have Sims 4 but haven’t played much!
I've had rugs catch fire if they're placed too close, which then spreads to anything on them like sofas and coffee tables. I think objects need to be at least one square away from the fireplace to be safe.

But the Sims route to safety now. They grab their toddlers (if they have them) and run outside, whilst the Sim who 'discovers' the fire just stands there screaming at it Grin

They recently added firefighters in an update too, so if you deliberately want them to die in the fire, you'd have to make sure the room is tiny and lock the door so the firefighters can't get it and your Sim can't get out (you can lock doors now, you don't need to remove them. Mwahaha)

Or do what I do and lock them in a tiny room and set some fireworks off for less faff

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 11/08/2020 19:10

I think your DH was horrible to send pix to his family to mock you. Hasn't he got anything better to joke about? What amazing non nerd activities does he do in his spare time?
I know tonnes of 20/30 year olds who are constant gamers.. But it does seem absoluely fine for men to do it, but not women. They are remarkably sexist. The same goes for going to gigs. No one would bat an eyelid at DH going to a local band, but friends have actually laughed at the fact that I went. Its so utterly stupid and you ought to call him out on it.
Set up your own gaming channel, advertise it on Insta and get some big sponsors. Then you have the last laugh.

tmh88 · 11/08/2020 19:14

I’m just wanting your Instagram page now.. I have to wait to play till DS is in bed.. you are by no means a “nerd” not that that’s a bad thing anyway!

AuntyPasta · 11/08/2020 19:33

’when we moved last year we packed the disks away and I think they ended up in the attic’

Origin is awesome. I bought the Sims4 as a digital download years ago. At the start of lockdown I went to origin and my account was still there with the Sims4, ready to play (though the saves had gone.) I hadn’t played it for at least 3 years! Technology is awesome.

LunaMuffinTop · 11/08/2020 19:35

Your DH is a massive twat. I play the sims I love it and I play bitlife on the my DH’s IPad there is nothing wrong with playing games. My dad is 65 and he still plays games my DH likes to play GTA V and other games. There isn’t a problem with it you have a DH problem and I would be telling him to sling his hook because what he’s doing is immature child like bullying.

Oysterbabe · 11/08/2020 19:35

Animal crossing is my game. My husband does take the piss a bit but in a light hearted way. Fuck him.

ginghamtablecloths · 11/08/2020 19:42

Your DH is a prat for sending the info to his friends and family and making silly comments. I don't understand what you mean by 'The Sims' but it sounds interesting and enjoyable. I expect he is more likely embarrassing himself and IIWY I'd tell him to piss off.

I play with Lego - I expect some folks would consider that a bit off too but I don't care.

Cherrytangfastic · 11/08/2020 19:44

Tell him to sod off! I love building houses in The Sims. Endless fun.

MumsyMumIAmNot · 11/08/2020 23:07

Your partner sounds mean.my ex was a coke sniffing, weed smoking violent twat. I'd much rather have lovely you, playing your games, than that! Carry on OP if you enjoy it.
