DH says I’m an embarrassing nerd

Hindsite · 11/08/2020 11:35

I play the Sims. I have lately taken to building and have built a number of homes. I’m getting really into it and have renovated a whole town. I have created an instagram page for my Sims game and share all my builds on there as well as my stories. My next project is making an abandoned Wild West town like the ones we have come across in America. This will likely take a month or so and then once I’m done I’ll move families into it who will then renovate the town.

Last night DH came across my Instagram and went off on one saying I’m a complete giant nerd and he sent the pics to all his family and to his mate. His mate asked if him if I’ve stopped playing grandma turismo because he kept beaten me. DH didn’t know I was playing this car game online with his mate and is now saying I’m an embarrassment and I’ll be the joke of his work place.

Wtf. Is it really so bad to have interests that don’t affect anyone else even if I am a Middle Aged woman?

Ok my Instagram is asimthing. It doesn’t have a lot on it yet as I’m not very computer savvy and can’t figure out how to get photos from my computer to my phone (where my Instagram is) but my twins story is on there and I’ll be updating it all tomorrow and over the weekend ☺️

I followed you Smile

I have to say, I’m surprised at the answers here OP. Most people on threads about gaming compare it to mass murder or similar WinkGrin

HarryHarry · 11/08/2020 15:48

I never buy the expansion packs or the game packs until they go on 50% off 🙂 Gonna get Tiny Living or whatever it’s called next.

Cam2020 · 11/08/2020 15:50

Wow, The Sims has certainly moved on from the days of creating and living off an artist dungeon imp, drowning people in the swimming pool and locking people in the basement!

Cam2020 · 11/08/2020 15:53

I now want to play again!

MrsRandallFraser · 11/08/2020 15:54

Followed you OP. I've found my people with this thread!

MrsBennetsnerves · 11/08/2020 15:55

I'm a middle aged nerd too, OP. I'm not into the Sims but have played plenty of games. Most recently I've been playing ESO with DH. You DH sounds like a twat.

AuntyPasta · 11/08/2020 15:55

You can still lock people in doorless rooms and you can get mods to kill people with lightning strikes and start a zombie apocalypse, so not it’s not moved that far from it’s roots.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/08/2020 15:57

What stands out to me is that he has not only found something out about you which he is embarrassed about but he has then shared it, like a bully, with his wider circle for some purpose of humiliating you.

TorgosPizza · 11/08/2020 15:57

Some of my hobbies are considered by some to be rather grandmotherly. Crochet, knitting, quilting. Of course, plenty of young people do those things, too, but even if they were almost always "old folks" things, so what?

My husband supports my "granny hobbies", and I support his "nerdy" hobby of painting miniatures.

It's very immature to make fun of someone's perfectly innocent hobbies!

(Your posts are making me think about getting into The Sims again, but I must resist, because I can't spare the time from quilting!!)

@Cam2020

The spoilsports ruined it a little with the pool. If you take away the ladder, they just pull themselves up and out of it. Can't do it if you build a fence or wall around 'em though 😈

And now we can lock them in the basement with a hungry cowplant for added fun. Mwahaha.

AuntyPasta · 11/08/2020 15:59

You know the sims have just released a new stuff pack called Nifty Knitting Grin

TorgosPizza · 11/08/2020 16:01

Just looking at your IG, OP. I love your houses!

(Really feeling tempted... I used to love building houses, and that was way back in the days when the houses looked quite boring compared to these. Haven't looked at The Sims in over a decade. They've improved the architecture so much!)

TempestHayes · 11/08/2020 16:07

@Hindsite email them to yourself, or consider putting them up on something like Google Drive and then can download onto your phone.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/08/2020 16:10

Or walling them in. I did that more than once on Sims 2 to that NPC called Goopy Gills as his face annoyed me so much.

If you have a real desire for destruction and mayhem I do recommend the nuclear missiles on Civilization VI. Very very effective.

Xenia · 11/08/2020 16:14

We all have different hobbies and I never judge anyone over it. My son joked I had moved from bnoring everyone with the family tree and family history research to another kind of tree recently - I have been spending hours clearing dead tree branches etc in the garden and putting up fence panels and says for my next big thing can I make it something that does not have to involve him (he has to lift he occasional panel with me which takes 5 minutes so is hardly second person participatory).

My son and his friend are next door at the moment drumming on some drums that come with some kind of video game and why not? We all like different things. live and let live.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 11/08/2020 16:14

He tried to humiliate you but ended up embarrassing himself -- what an idiot.
He's the problem, OP, not you or your hobbies.

lyralalala · 11/08/2020 16:22

It sounds to me like your DH tried to take the piss out of you with his mates and is now hacked off because it backfired when his mate mentioned playing games with you.

So, his mate didn't find it embarassing and your DH is embarassed he didn't know you shared a hobby with his friend.

He looks like a dick so he's taking it out on you.

jerometheturnipking · 11/08/2020 16:23

Thanks to those who answered about Eco Lifestyle. It has got money off just now but £26 is still a lot of money for the build/buy mode stuff.

I once made a Sim who lived in a micro home and basically shagged his way around San Myshuno. He had like 20 kids, some forever babies because they were born to NPC mothers and can't age up.

Magissa · 11/08/2020 16:23

I followed you!

bakereld · 11/08/2020 16:32

YANBU OP, the Sims is amazing!!!!

You do you, never mind what your DH thinks, he has revealed himself as an insecure fool. Life is for living unapologetically, enjoy what makes you happy :).

LannieDuck · 11/08/2020 16:32

Another here who would love to know if his mate's an embarrassment too?

BlusteryShowers · 11/08/2020 16:34

I've found my people!

I am also a Sims builder and I don't admit it in public. Personally I see it as no different as any other creative outlet but somehow I feel like people will judge more.

I've just built a Mews Courtyard with three houses for Windenburg the other day. I also like downloading wrecked houses from the gallery and trying to do a budget limited realistic-ish renovation.

The origin bundle deal at the moment is great. I got Eco Lifestyle, Parenthood and Moschino for around £30.

BelleSausage · 11/08/2020 16:37

He’s a twat and he doesn’t respect you. Nip that in the bud now or leave him.

If DH said something like that to me he’d be left in no doubt that he was on thin ice unless he bucked up his ideas.

MintyCedric · 11/08/2020 16:40

What a tosser.

I'm not into gaming but spend most of my spare time writing fan fiction and hanging out on Tumblr, I'm 44.

Thankfully I don't have a husband to complain about it, although I get the odd eye roll from teenage DD.
