DH says I’m an embarrassing nerd

Hindsite · 11/08/2020 11:35

I play the Sims. I have lately taken to building and have built a number of homes. I’m getting really into it and have renovated a whole town. I have created an instagram page for my Sims game and share all my builds on there as well as my stories. My next project is making an abandoned Wild West town like the ones we have come across in America. This will likely take a month or so and then once I’m done I’ll move families into it who will then renovate the town.

Last night DH came across my Instagram and went off on one saying I’m a complete giant nerd and he sent the pics to all his family and to his mate. His mate asked if him if I’ve stopped playing grandma turismo because he kept beaten me. DH didn’t know I was playing this car game online with his mate and is now saying I’m an embarrassment and I’ll be the joke of his work place.

Wtf. Is it really so bad to have interests that don’t affect anyone else even if I am a Middle Aged woman?

If he thinks it's embarrassing why is he showing people? 🤷‍♀️

Littlepond · 12/08/2020 00:57

I once had a blog all about my Sims game - in which I made Sims versions of all my friends and then let the game play itself and see what happened 🤣

squeekums · 12/08/2020 01:31

Screw him OP
I have a whole room in our house dedicated to WWE - yes, the wrestling company.
I have a collection of merch that 10yr old boys would go nuts over.
Dp does give me shit about it, in a jokey way, but its also like i call him crazy for getting up in freezing cold to go fish. He has also taken me to WWE live twice for our anniversary as he gets i love it.

In the interest of fairness, what are some of your DH interests OP, bet we could find some of them stupid or embarrassing

bambooplant · 12/08/2020 05:01

This is honestly horrible :( carry on doing what you enjoy and don’t feel ashamed of it

BlusteryShowers · 12/08/2020 08:04

Are you doing the Wild West Town in Strangerville? I've not got that pack but the build buy is meant to be awesome.

The you tubers I watch are:
Devon Bumpkin for building - mindblowing. His let's build series is like nothing else.

James Turner for lets plays as I like the rags to riches gameplay style

Plumbella for general discussion, commentary and reviews. She is awesome.

remainin · 12/08/2020 08:40

I love the Sims! There's absolutely nothing wrong with playing games. Your H is an idiot.

Namenic · 12/08/2020 08:40

How come his mate isn’t a nerd for playing gran turismo? I’m a geek and married to Someone geekier. Plenty of middle aged men and women play computer games.

Hippywannabe · 12/08/2020 08:44

I think that is really mean of him! Maybe he needs to see how most people agree with you.
DH and I recently started June's Journey and I find it quite relaxing designing and building my island!

Hindsite · 12/08/2020 09:03

@BlusteryShowers

No I don’t have strangerville, is it right that the packs are on sale right now? I might buy it (as well as vampires!) just for the build mode.

I’m doing the wild west town in oasis springs.

(My paper clip has finally appeared so I’ll post my 1800s church / park that is part of my old west ghost town ☺️

This is my house in real life, rebuilt in the Sims ☺️

DD is good at building on Sims, got it for her after reading about it on here, as she likes minecraft creative. She finds it v relaxing. Am going to recommend some of the youtubers mentioned on this thread, thank you!

Obviously agree with the others about your H Angry

Abitouting · 12/08/2020 09:08

What a nasty man. This is your personal hobby and he has invaded it by sharing it with others and mocking you. This is not OK OP.

Don't question whether you're being a nerd. Question your relationship with this aresehole.

Abitouting · 12/08/2020 09:09

Oh and btw I haven't played SIMS for a while but I think I'll start again on my days off once youngest is in school this September (excited!!)

I love the sims and wish I could still play! Just waiting till I have some time away from the kids, I watch YouTube videos like Plumbella and lilsimsie to get my fix and I can't build for nothing, so tell him to get lost!!!!
BlusteryShowers · 12/08/2020 09:10

@Hindsite yes, there is a sale on. The build a bundle deal on origin is great value as well. You can choose 1 expansion, 1 game pack and 1 stuff pack for about £30 ish.

I struggle to be interested in the stuff packs tbh but I've got most of the expansions now. It's only Island Living and Cats and Dogs I don't have. I want Vampires as well for the cobwebs and cracks as I love to build wrecked, abandoned houses as though the Sim has bought it at auction and needs to do it up Grin

Breastfeedingworries · 12/08/2020 09:15

I love the sims! He’s a pollock.

That’s exactly why I want vampires! I want the floor stains and wall cracks etc for my abandoned houses! 😂😂

@BlusteryShowers

Island living is worth buying for the build mode alone! This is a beach house I made for my young family ☺️

I want you as my friend. 🙋🏻‍♀️ I love the sims but don’t have a computer to play it at the moment, I do have animal crossing though where you can design your own island. I LOVE IT.
Your partner sounds like a boring old man!

Hindsite · 12/08/2020 09:21

And this is my beautiful young family 🥰 the man I’ve had since he was a toddler so he’s my legacy sim. I’m going to give them a new baby soon, hopefully a boy 😂

Nothing wrong with being a nerd, everyone has a different way of unwinding. If I got sent the pictures of your social media from a relative I’d definitely judge them and not you.

GinDrinker00 · 12/08/2020 09:24

Should tell him the vote on this thread to shut him up. 😂 Started following you on insta. I like the Wild West town.
You enjoy your games, it’s a good escapism. 🤓

theDudesmummy · 12/08/2020 12:29

Oh, it is obviously a loooong time since I played Sims and it has come a long way! Can anyone tell me briefly which software you need to do the things you people have been discussing here, have multi-generational families, fix up houses etc.

I am in real life fixing up a derelict house at the moment! I was thinking about making a mock-up on the Sims to think about ideas for decor/where things should go etc (the kitchen is being built from scratch and I am trying to design where I want things to go...)

AuntyPasta · 12/08/2020 13:11

All you need is the base game, that is Sims 4. You get a world to build in and can play multi generational families.

It’s £16.87 on Origin

www.origin.com/gbr/en-us/store/the-sims/the-sims-4/offer-selection

You can add content by buying extra software. There are three types -expansion packs (priciest) , game packs and stuff packs (cheapest.) Have a browse. If you buy these you’ll get extra content ranging from more hairstyles and outfits for your sims, new worlds to build and live in, more furniture, more wallpaper, windows and doors to build with, more activities and jobs for your Sims and more interactions with other sims.

You can pick and mix by adding the bits you want. I don’t have vampires or magic because they don’t interest me. Some people love them. Have a look at YouTube for reviews of the various packs. Some packs seem better value for money than others in terms of what you get. I’ve yet to find anyone who loves Luxury Party Stuff.

Origin do periodic sales but if there isn’t one on, they do a bundle deal where (once you have the base game) you can pick one of each type of pack (expansion, game, stuff) for a set price that saves you money.

AuntyPasta · 12/08/2020 13:15

Just click through the Origin Access bits.
