DH says I’m an embarrassing nerd

Hindsite · 11/08/2020 11:35

I play the Sims. I have lately taken to building and have built a number of homes. I’m getting really into it and have renovated a whole town. I have created an instagram page for my Sims game and share all my builds on there as well as my stories. My next project is making an abandoned Wild West town like the ones we have come across in America. This will likely take a month or so and then once I’m done I’ll move families into it who will then renovate the town.

Last night DH came across my Instagram and went off on one saying I’m a complete giant nerd and he sent the pics to all his family and to his mate. His mate asked if him if I’ve stopped playing grandma turismo because he kept beaten me. DH didn’t know I was playing this car game online with his mate and is now saying I’m an embarrassment and I’ll be the joke of his work place.

Wtf. Is it really so bad to have interests that don’t affect anyone else even if I am a Middle Aged woman?

By the title I thought you meant he lovingly joked you were a nerd whilst supporting you.

Why are you with him?

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 11/08/2020 14:06

Bollocks to him! I love this kind of thing and am very happy to a be a nerd/geek/whatever. Warcraft is my main love, but have always had a massive soft spot for the Sims. Your project ideas sound amazing! Also, if you ever fancy something new, Planet Zoo is amazing in terms of the creativity it offers. It's kept me engaged for weeks!

PhilSwagielka · 11/08/2020 14:10

YANBU, your DH is a knob. Men game all the time, I don't see why women can't. I play Pokemon Go myself.

Thegirlwithnousername · 11/08/2020 14:15

Your DH sounds really mean.
I need to see your Instagram page I love Sims but I never build houses I am never imaginative enough.
I recently completed Theme Hospital for the first time - I am 32!!! I even posted it on FB a picture of the letter and everyone liked it and a few was even jealous! But my DH was nice about it not mean and sending it to his family and friends, Such a dickhead move.
Sorry.

Thegirlwithnousername · 11/08/2020 14:17

I play GTA too I couldn't get into Red Dead 2 but did enjoy the first one,
I like the Nathan Drake games too.
God you sound like someone I would be friends with 🤣

queenmother · 11/08/2020 14:27

What is your insta op? Love me a bit of sims

Jurassiclover · 11/08/2020 14:45

Agreed that your DH is mean!

I too am in love with sims, and live in the North East and also love watching plumbella!

As for the poster who asked about eco lifestyle, I have it, I like the build and buy stuff but the actual pack I could take or leave to be honest.

Jurassiclover · 11/08/2020 14:45

also drop that insta I want to follow it hahaya

MsEllany · 11/08/2020 14:53

I also have a Simstagram @Hindsite Grin I made my husband follow it!

Happynow001 · 11/08/2020 14:54

@Hindsite

Your husband really DOES need to lighten up!

I don't play any of those games (maybe I should - sounds fun!) but it doesn't sound like you are doing harm to anyone with a brain cell and your own brain cells are getting a thorough workout which is a GOOD thing.

If you were on crack and twerking up and down your street whilst wearing an itsy teeny yellow polkadot bikini he might have a point. Till then ignore him!!

BTW I loved the idea of Grandma Tourismo! 😎

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 11/08/2020 14:56

Friggin' love The Sims (I make my family and then move Sim me into her own one bed flat - it's so peaceful).

I'd love your Instagram - this sounds so much fun.

Also, your husband is a bully.

Theforest · 11/08/2020 14:58

Its not a big deal surely.

I love gaming too. Lots of women too. Pharaoh is probably my long term favourite but very old now. Getting back in WoW after many years away.

Nerds are cool Grin

AWryGiraffe · 11/08/2020 15:02

This has reminded me to play the sims tonight once the baby is in bed! I love it. Not got into renovating neighbourhood houses though, definitely going to explore that - I'm weirdly family orientated on there!

MrsRandallFraser · 11/08/2020 15:09

OP you sound like my kind of person - if you're not brave enough to post your IG on here, please pm it. I'd love to follow :)

I keep seeing Sims ads on my facebook - I think they're having a sale on expansion packs right now and it's making me want to play so bad! As soon as these supposed storms hit and I won't feel bad for sitting inside, I'll be getting my laptop out!

Raella50 · 11/08/2020 15:12

Did you play video games when you met him? Have you started playing a lot more often? I would be embarrassed if my DH played games to be honest but I wouldn’t have been attracted to him in the first place had he been. If you were like that to start with then it really isn’t fair of him to have a go now! Enjoy your games and ignore!

TempestHayes · 11/08/2020 15:16

What a bellend :) I've played video games since childhood, and am deeply suspicious of those who just deem them 'all silly rubbish' or who don't understand them, because how the hell do you go through life not wanting to even try? I mean, the poster above claiming she'd 'not have been attracted to' someone who played games. FFS.

People are weird.

His reaction is exceptionally over the top. I suspect there are men who find the idea of a wife having interests and a life outside of the domestic sphere to be frightening and strange, and this is how they react.

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 11/08/2020 15:17

Also, does anyone have any story line ideas?

I've done rags to riches. Cinderella. Owning everything (gets boring). Shagging this maid.

Pittapitta · 11/08/2020 15:19

Ltb you are who you are and he should love you for it.

HarryHarry · 11/08/2020 15:20

Haha my husband thinks my Sims obsession is “cute”. I have a spreadsheet with all my characters and where they live and what job they do. I’m currently renovating all the existing houses in my towns. It’s the only thing I’m really nerdy about but I’m not sorry! I just love building!

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale · 11/08/2020 15:22

@jerometheturnipking

Nowt wrong with playing the Sims or Gran Tourismo. I'm also partial to a bit of Animal Crossing (although the kids have somewhat shat on my island...)

Out of interest - you say renovate the town. Do you have the Eco Living expansion pack? If you do how do you rate it? I keep looking at it with heart eyes but I'm not sure if it's worth the money.

If you want to get the Eco pack, I'd wait until it goes on sale. It has some cute build/buy items but it's nowhere near worth the full price.

I know a lot of people love it, but imo it's the worst expansion they've released. I think it would have been better suited as a Game Pack, because as a full on expansion, it's really lacklustre.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/08/2020 15:22

I am almost positive there has been another thread in the last 6 months with a different poster getting grief about playing The Sims, but I can't find it. The 2 of you need to link up!

Raella50 · 11/08/2020 15:23

@TempestHayes what’s wrong with that? We all have different interests/ opinions. If OP is into them that that’s fine, perhaps her husband just finds them a turn-off and a bit embarrassing. He’s being unkind about it but I’d not be happy either. If she’s been playing for longer than she’s known him then OP should tell him where to go! If it’s a new hobby and her husband hates it, she’ll either find a compromise or leave?!

Cam2020 · 11/08/2020 15:24

What a shit.

What's embarrassing about having a hobby? He sounds like a bully.

ladycarlotta · 11/08/2020 15:26

not the OP but I have it and really enjoy it! Much more than I thought I would - I think it works really well with the Tiny Home expansion pack, and I like the neighbourhood initiative/voting stuff (the trick is to use your famous Sims with lots of reputation points to beat down the stupid initiatives that are mooted. I had to lock my Sims' doors for all but household when the movement to let people take your stuff was voted in, as their adult children kept coming over and thieving the whole kitchen).

I like having a designated community space, and it's really cool to be able to build furniture, improve household appliances, and recycle junk. I would recommend it! I got it half price on Origin - is that deal still on?

Re. Storylines ... I downloaded a single mum of twins (I’m not a troll, I promise 😂 ) from the gallery. I moved them into willow creek but she wasn’t happy and could see her kids going downhill with the local ruffians. (The little kid with the black leather jacket is a right little shit 😂 ). So she moved them to Sulani (island living) so she could bring them up in paradise. They had no money when they got there so I had them living in a tent on the beach 😂 she was selling paintings for money. Over time they managed to build a big luxury house over the water. It was fun to move from the tent to a little wooden shack and just add to it over time ☺️ I decided to carry on the storyline from the male twin who is now married with a baby ... still living on the island but I think I’ll move them to the city soon as I’ve had that expansion pack for months and never actually used it 😂
