To tell school they're just back from Spain

In Scotland so schools start back this week. Family with DC in DS's class got back from Spain less than a week ago so should be isolating for 14 days but.... they are sending their kids back this week.

So, should I tell the school? They could be infected and therefore put others at risk. At best it would be inconvenient having to isolate and kids staying home from school again. Or is it none of my business? Not even sure what the school can do about it.

YABU - don't tell, sure they'll be fine
YANBU - tell school, they're being irresponsible

I've just told my boys' school that they won't be in due quarantining and nobody seemed all that interested (other than noting the 'authorised' absence).
I'd be interested what reply you end up getting, malloo.

I'm a previously shielding teacher and have had several hospital admissions this year. I'm now recovered from those and fit to work, shielding is paused and the government has decreed that people like me will be back in packed classrooms with these non-quarantining kids. It very literally could kill me.
Plea to everyone reading this thread, please don't send your kids in when they shouldnt be, and ffs please do 'grass people up'. It isn't the playground, we are in a global pandemic and people like me are being thrown under the bus when people break the rules.

And thankyou @malloo for doing the right thingFlowers

You've done the right thing. My DS is going back tomorrow and I'd be raging if they all had to come out again because some selfish arsehole didn't stick to the 2 week quarantine. Wouldn't matter if they were positive or not, as soon as anyone found out, they'd have to quarantine at the least the class and teachers.

LaurieMarlow · 11/08/2020 16:54

Well done OP 👍

notangelinajolie · 11/08/2020 17:36

Well done OP, you've done the right thing.

Following with interest - is school the right place to report though?

RoseAndRose · 11/08/2020 18:01

is school the right place to report though?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, as it's specifically the breach concerning school attendance that OP knows about and is seeking to head off.

Melabells · 11/08/2020 18:34

I would tell the school, so selfish if this family putting teachers and children at risk. It's people that behave like that, that terrify me about sending my son in tomorrow. He is so anxious 😥 told me today " mummy I'm scared I'm going to get coronavirus " scary times

wrexham · 11/08/2020 18:59

You have done the right thing OP.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/08/2020 18:59

Please tell. People are really showing who they are at the moment 🙄

Butmiss · 11/08/2020 20:07

Do keep us updated OP on what the school replies!

lunar1 · 11/08/2020 20:10

Glad you told the school. Our full guidelines haven been sent yet. But we have been told that anyone not complying with quarantine will lose their school place (it's independent).
