To tell school they're just back from Spain

In Scotland so schools start back this week. Family with DC in DS's class got back from Spain less than a week ago so should be isolating for 14 days but.... they are sending their kids back this week.

So, should I tell the school? They could be infected and therefore put others at risk. At best it would be inconvenient having to isolate and kids staying home from school again. Or is it none of my business? Not even sure what the school can do about it.

YABU - don't tell, sure they'll be fine
YANBU - tell school, they're being irresponsible

Definitely tell. It might be ok, but no one has a crystal ball. Better to err on the side of caution and report and let the head deal with it.

Enough4me · 10/08/2020 22:17

The school should know and guidelines should be followed.

BoomBoomsCousin · 10/08/2020 22:22

Tell the school and hope they are able to effect a reasonable solution. Don’t give the family a “chance to do the right thing” because if they don’t everyone their children meet will be compromised.

billy1966 · 10/08/2020 22:25

School should be told.

Am absolutely sick of hearing about people thinking the rules don't apply to them.

This winter is going to be absolutely terrifying for lot of people.

I followed the rules, as did my friends and family.
It has been a complete PITA.

But it has meant largely little.

My medical friends are telling me, without exception, that they are expecting a severe second round.

It's not going to be fun, and it's not helped by the wilfully stupid.

justasking111 · 10/08/2020 22:30

I think the nice tan would be a bit of a giveaway and the truth would come out anyway, children talk.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/08/2020 22:36

When it comes to school I would tell. Schools need to be open for as long as possible

AngryPrincess · 10/08/2020 22:36

Yep. Tell.
Because of behaviour like this we will all be going back into lockdown shortly.
Which area of Scotland?

kattekitt · 10/08/2020 22:42

Teachers are returnI got to school willing to risk their own health and parents can’t arsed to follow the rules.

Absolutely tell the school and do it as soon as you can. I bet that the family aren’t observing the self isolation at all, but hey it doesn’t matter. Makes me so angry and this won’t be an isolated case, there’s seems to be a lot of people that just can’t be arsed following the rules anymore but are demanding for teachers to return.

Sugartitties · 10/08/2020 22:45

i wouldn’t say anything. if they’ve taken precautions, mask etc then i cannot see what difference it would make. If the masks work then they work. My sister has recently tested positive, has worn a mask every time she stepped outside her front door and still got it.

1Morewineplease · 10/08/2020 22:45

I work in a school and my husband isn’t in the best of health. I’d be furious if I found myself working with a child who had just come back from Spain.
Please tell the school.

LillianBland · 10/08/2020 22:47

@Starlightstarbright1

I can’t bear how everyone has become the police about other people since Covid.

So no I would leave them to it.

My child has underlying conditions, but you think that people should prioritise the rights over someone that has increased the risk of carrying Covid, just over the safety of children like my daughter. Attitudes like this is part of the reason people think the rules don’t apply to them and we get outbreaks. We’re going to end up back into lockdown because of selfish people like this.

The changes are, OP, they want the kids back at school so they can go back to work, increasing the risk of spread in their workplace. Selfish pricks.

cheesersqueezer · 10/08/2020 22:49

I’m not sure if it’s the school which should deal with this? Is it for test and trace??

Goingprivate2020 · 10/08/2020 22:49

Yes. I’d tell school.

LillianBland · 10/08/2020 22:49

The mask isn’t worn to protect the wearer, but to prevent them spreading it. It was more likely that it was some wanker that thought wearing a mask was nonsense, that infected her. She still did the right thing wearing it as she has prevented others from catching it off her.
ktp100 · 10/08/2020 22:52

FFS, this is a global pandemic, it's not a time for allowing selfish arseholes to bend a social health rule for their own benefit! For all you know their teacher or teacher's family could have underlying health issues that put them at a higher risk. TELL THE SCHOOL!!

Mintychoc1 · 10/08/2020 22:53

Did they go to mainland Spain or an island?

GabsAlot · 10/08/2020 22:54

clearly the message still isnt getting through about masks

they protext others not yourselves

yes op tell the school i dont care if get called the covid police they cant just do as they please

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 10/08/2020 22:55

Tell the school. This isn't fucking around. There will be people at the school with vulnerable family members, people just need to grow up an follow the rules.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/08/2020 22:57

@cheesersqueezer people coming back from Spain should currently quarantine for 2 weeks to cover the incubation period of the virus. Schools have very little precautions in place to stop the spread of the virus as our governments don't think they are necessary (other/most people will disagree) So parents and pupils have to be responsible in the hope that we can keep the virus spread in schools very low.

Not keeping quarantine and sending your children in on the first day is not a good start for the school.

2 positive cases in a school in 14 day period can be deemed an outbreak and year group/school could be asked to self isolate for 2 weeks. This is why many people are saying they would tell the school. School will want people to stick to the guidelines.

TheHighestSardine · 10/08/2020 23:00

@Enoughnowstop

And so it starts....
Yeah, we all knew people would flout the quarantine rules because "it won't happen to us, they're young kids, they'll be fine".

Oh, is that not what you meant? Flowers

spiderbabymum · 10/08/2020 23:02

Quarantine is not voluntary

We all have a responsibility to protect one another

julybaby32 · 10/08/2020 23:03

Tell. ASAP or not at all.
I would go for tell.

Runnerduck34 · 10/08/2020 23:05

I'm in the minority, I wouldn't tell.

notangelinajolie · 10/08/2020 23:09

Tell.

Sugartitties · 10/08/2020 23:15

yes i’m aware the mask only helps to stop the spread. she owns a pub abroad so let’s hope the mask does work. she lives with her boyfriend and has been in close contact without the mask with my brother and mother especially so i’ll keep you posted on their test results.
