I’m sick of reading about people moaning about school reopening, lack of social distancing etc. What do you want? DC off school for years and all the long term implications that will cause /is causing.
If you don’t like it, don’t send your dc but stop complaining.

OP posts:
RubieRose · 09/08/2020 09:39

If you can complain, so can they. Everyone can have an opinion on their children's education/safety.

Why are you worrying about what others are doing? Just concentrate on your own children.

Rosebel · 09/08/2020 09:41

I agree. People can always home school if they like. Our children have missed so much and not just their formal education (but all the things like independence and responsibility not to mention being separated from friends that go with being at school). I feel they need to go back.
Yes, it is a bit worrying but won't be any less worrying if they go back later.

PinkFondantFancy · 09/08/2020 09:43

Completely agree. Open the schools as normal. If you don't like it, homeschool.

Orchidsindoors · 09/08/2020 09:48

Why do you think they want their children off for years? I'm thinking the virus is likely to be worse in winter, so potentially see how schools are handling things and how the numbers go. So could be just past Christmas at the most. Could even be a couple of weeks. Why does it bother you what other people might do? Would give more room for yours!!

wagtailred · 09/08/2020 09:50

Well, bearing in mind i am delighted schools are reopening and intend to send my children, i am more than happy for people to moan and try and come up with ways to make it as safe as possible. In terms of what people want - it is clear people want increased funding for additional cleaning, sanitising stations to be set up, extra portaloo facilities added, options to wear face masks and possibley hire additional venues if applicable. They also want some investment in IT to support children isolating.

And to be honest if all the teachers de-register and become home tutors it doesnt really help my children in school.

Emeraldshamrock · 09/08/2020 09:51

Oh yes there is an idea a very silly idea but an idea.
Are parents not allowed to worry I'm sure many staff are worried too.
These are not normal circumstances.

PicsInRed · 09/08/2020 09:51

Would give more room for yours!!

Only if they deregister, otherwise they are taking up a school place they refuse to use.

The issue is that they aren't saying "we disagree so we will withdraw our children and homeschool", they are demanding "we disagree therefore the schools must remain closed to all and everyone must homeschool".

Just ridiculous.

stayathomer · 09/08/2020 09:54

This is like the thread complaining about people moaning about masks. Of course people can unburden themselves about something they're worried about, it's a way to weigh up the options and see what you will actually do. And deregistering your child from school isn't an easy option, nobody wants to miss out on school, they're just worried about how this will all work

SinkGirl · 09/08/2020 09:55

People can always home school if they like.

Is this a serious comment?

Plenty of people cannot homeschool and keep a roof over their heads. Plenty of people can’t effectively educate their children because their children have disabilities that make it impossible.

This is peak MN privilege right here.

hadley222 · 09/08/2020 09:55

I expect some parents will send their child to school after a few days or perhaps the second week, when they find out it is working for other children.

About the only aspect of their handling of this Covid 19 where the government and I agree is that schools should re-start for all pupils. Shut pubs to help this I think, given that they seem unable to enforce social distancing.

SmileEachDay · 09/08/2020 09:56

whenthejoyreturns

What would you like teachers who have concerns about the badly thought out schools guidance to do?

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 09/08/2020 09:57

I think they definitely must re open so I said YANBU.

But at the same time I think people are entitled to worry or suggest ways the government could make it safer (close pubs/ churches/ whatever your opinion is) so maybe a bit yabu.

sunrainwind · 09/08/2020 09:59

I agree - I would like the focus to be on the children attending and who can't go (isolating for example), not those who chose not to go and then need catching up on things they've missed.

How so?! That's a ridiculous notion. If there arent there for a few weeks there is more space for the others to social distance. They dont have to deregister at all . Why would they? The school place is theirs. No one else wants it!!

Orchidsindoors · 09/08/2020 10:03

"The issue is that they aren't saying "we disagree so we will withdraw our children and homeschool", they are demanding "we disagree therefore the schools must remain closed to all and everyone must homeschool"."

I dont think there is a single person saying that, that's just a ridiculous notion. The most Ive heard people say is that they dont want to be fined. I'm Wales so not going to be fined, so I couldnt care less if the schools open, I can make a choice if mine go or not.

VashtaNerada · 09/08/2020 10:04

I’m a teacher who wants schools to open but I think YABU. Are you seriously saying only those rich enough to quit work and homeschool are entitled to an opinion? Many families will be sending their DC back to school because they don’t have any other option but it’s fine for them to still raise queries over safety.

differentnameforthis · 09/08/2020 10:05

@PinkFondantFancy

And those who can't home school?
Orchidsindoors · 09/08/2020 10:05

Also whilst people are still delighted that schools are opening, the numbers of cases are going up. Noone knows how bad it's going to be in September.

This is what is winding me up. I know that most people that are concerned are being reasonable about it but some are really very angry and insistent that schools shouldn't open until impossible things have happened.

Most people can't home school. Please don't let your anxiety deny other children an education.

FluffyHippo · 09/08/2020 10:10

When will people get it into their stupid heads that the the current proposals for re-opening schools put both staff and children's health at risk and - by extension - the health of the wider population.

I don't say that as a panic-monger. I say that as someone who has, for professional reasons, waded through the D of E guidance and government directives, related these to to the global experience of schools re-opening and considered the science. Everything I've read convinces me that re-opening schools is dangerous at present.

Now, with no extra money and a budget in deficit, I have to find a way of trying to minimise the risk at our college - all because people aren't looking at the evidence.

Emeraldshamrock · 09/08/2020 10:16

I will be sending my DC back. In Ireland the schools are setting up to ensure social distance, extra classrooms, extra teaching staff with plenty of hand sanitizer. AFAIK the older DC will wear masks.
Ireland hasn't opened pubs or clubs yet it feels safer although numbers are rising quickly in food processing factories.
It is understandable parents in England are worried.

NellNorth · 09/08/2020 10:21

I’ve had to remove my children from private school, due to our business collapsing. We are in a village with a very good state school, which is our only catchment school. The year groups for 2 of my children are full. I want my children to attend school, and have no money for on line tutoring.
If a parent doesn’t want to send their child back to school, there must be questions asked about that child taking a place that someone else needs. Around here, private schools have lost about 15percent of their pupils- they’re not being homeschooled, they’re all trying to get into decent state schools.

PenguinIce · 09/08/2020 10:23

I am hoping schools go back as my dc is going in to year 11 so a very important year. What worries me with local lockdowns is that some schools could be shut all the time due to high Covid cases whilst others might not shut at all. How will this be a level playing field for the pupils especially the ones taking their exams in May?

MumsyMumIAmNot · 09/08/2020 10:27

Agree OP! But they won't, they will send them in while moaning.

As NellNorth says, there are now plenty who want it. Many schools had wait lists even before lockdown.

Use your place or cede it to someone who will. But certainly don't demand all schools remain closed even to parents and children ready and willing to attend.
