AIBU to think letting your kids eat McDonald's with you at least 4 times a week is disgusting?

Just that basically. I've recently noticed since lockdown has been lifted a neighbour heading out almost every night (sometimes afternoon) with their kids and coming back a short time later with McDonald's. It's been at least 4 times this week that I've. Noticed, I only noticed cause our dog is always sitting on the back of the sofa looking out the window and barks when the neighbours leave/come back. The kids are in and around the age of 7/8 (or there abouts) they did this pre-lockdown too, though.

I will add I am under no circumstances a Saint or healthy eater, I do eat takeaways, McDonald's etc. And feel bad judging but I feel like this is an awful way to feed your young kids especially at 9pm at night. So yeah AIBU? Happy to be called a judgmental bitch here.

Maybe instead of watching the neighbours, you could try to train your dog not bark at them?

SecretWitch · 07/08/2020 22:15

This is your business in what way?

You do you and stop judging your neighbour

Emeraldshamrock · 07/08/2020 22:15

Your dog would drive me mad too.

FeelLiedTo · 07/08/2020 22:15

What's wrong with the op having noticed this and commenting?
It is disgusting and she's entitled to think that
It's natural, the dog barks, so she looks to see what the dog's barking at

Morgan12 · 07/08/2020 22:16

People have different taste from you. Shocker. I wonder who will play you in the movie?

Dogsgowoofwoof · 07/08/2020 22:18

Meh. At least they’re being fed.

Redwinestillfine · 07/08/2020 22:19

Bit boring and not cheaper at all but if that's what they choose as parents....

purplecorkheart · 07/08/2020 22:19

Why not just close your curtains/blinds so your dog doesn't bark when your neighbour lives their lives. Your dog will not bark and you will not ponder on your neighbours life choices.

GoldenPlatitudes · 07/08/2020 22:21

Fuck off hen

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 22:21

I didn't notice pre-lockdown because I've not been here, was another neighbour that said its the norm for them even pre lockdown though that hardly matters.

All dogs bark when they see/hear people. It's literally what every German Shepherd I have ever met has done, once they know its not a threat/are told to, they stop. Little terrier size dogs are worse and don't stop.

I also couldn't care less what the neighbours say about me, though I'd imagine there has been a lot said because even when I moved in, I got told everything about near enough everyone else in the street or well people tried to tell me anyway.

I also don't give a damn what they eat, they can eat it all day every day if they want, I was just curious to see what people on here thought. It's not that I'm staring out my window waiting/watching them. I've just been sat on the sofa watching TV but with heat have had my curtains open longer/later than normal so you can't help but see out 🙄

It wouldn't be my personal choice of meal four times a week. I take DS very occasionally because he likes it (and every so often, I am not ashamed to admit that I enjoy a big mac with extra gherkinsBlush).

However, each to their own. No one will die from eating McDonalds. Maybe they just like it and having it frequently is getting them through the current situation? Perhaps they are struggling with their mental health/a bereavement and just can't be bothered. My Nana died right at the start of lockdown and my son pretty much ate co op mini pizza and chips every day for a week. He loved it, it was easy and quite frankly,it was a case of getting through the horrendous fog of grief. He's still here and happy and healthy.

lilgreen · 07/08/2020 22:24

Yanbu .I walked past one the other day and the smell of deep fat fryers was not pleasant.

tenstorey · 07/08/2020 22:25

If you have the time to notice your neighbour goes to MC'ds four nights a week then post it on here for opinions then ffs you need to revaluate your own life

cdtaylornats · 07/08/2020 22:25

So a Hamburger, side salad and fruit bag doesn't sound that unhealthy.

Purpleartichoke · 07/08/2020 22:25

My DH’s parents fed him McDonald’s frequently. There was a point where I judged that. Then I realized what it means to have a child with sensory issues and medical issues who struggles to gain weight because I had one of my own. Her short list of meals doesn’t take us to McDonald’s, but another fast food establishment. Her doctors and therapists all recommend we feed her there frequently. I’m sure someone out there is judging me, but I am doing what is best for her.

Meangallery · 07/08/2020 22:26

Judgemental - you know you are!😂

FourPlasticRings · 07/08/2020 22:26

Are the kids in the car with them? Just wondering how you know they're feeding it to the kids too. DH and I had a couple of weeks recently where I sent him out for McDonalds multiple times (pregnancy cravings) but DD was always in bed and got none.

lilgreen · 07/08/2020 22:27

Who has a burger with fruit bag and dude salad at McDonalds???Hmm

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 22:28

Oh ffs, the dog only barks because he thinks the neighbours are approaching our house 🙄 glad everyone on here has absolute silent dogs in their life. Also he stops as soon as I say its okay or the neighbours get in their car.

MrsKeats · 07/08/2020 22:29

Maybe they are just getting an ice cream?
You need to focus on other things.

stayathomer · 07/08/2020 22:30

Hopefully it's just a case of it happened that way for them this week. If you dont know it's every week you cant assume. We've all had horrendous weeks from time to time, someone might be in hospital or something

Illuyanka · 07/08/2020 22:33

"Also he stops as soon as I say its okay"

Then maybe you should just say "ok" when your dog starts barking instead of going to the window and checking out what neighbours are up to.

tinseltitsandlittlegits · 07/08/2020 22:35

My son has severe autism and a very very limited diet so yes he has mc Donald's at least 4 times a week! When they shut he lost so much weight he was almost hospitalised so am I disgusting op or am I just a mum trying to keep her son alive 🤔.

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 22:35

@FourPlasticRings I'll probably get lynched for noticing but yeah it's the whole family out in the car carrying their own drinks/mcflurrys/food/whatever

In fairness it could be just for the parents for all I know.

Also, if it's the only thing you're kids will eat for sensory, asd, whatever reason then fair enough.

@tenstorey yes of course, one week off work on A/L during a pandemic and i need to get a life. Posting after 9pm at night. Just like apparently everyone else posting on mumsnet, no? Don't worry, back to normal service on Monday.

tenstorey · 07/08/2020 22:36

@FourEyedFreak13, no I don't think it's healthy to eat McDonalds four times a week, most people don't. But as others have said you don't know the full story and are making assumptions about people you should really not care so much about. As long as your happy with your diet and that of your family's that's all that matters. Live and let live they are doing you no harm.
