AIBU to think letting your kids eat McDonald's with you at least 4 times a week is disgusting?

Just that basically. I've recently noticed since lockdown has been lifted a neighbour heading out almost every night (sometimes afternoon) with their kids and coming back a short time later with McDonald's. It's been at least 4 times this week that I've. Noticed, I only noticed cause our dog is always sitting on the back of the sofa looking out the window and barks when the neighbours leave/come back. The kids are in and around the age of 7/8 (or there abouts) they did this pre-lockdown too, though.

I will add I am under no circumstances a Saint or healthy eater, I do eat takeaways, McDonald's etc. And feel bad judging but I feel like this is an awful way to feed your young kids especially at 9pm at night. So yeah AIBU? Happy to be called a judgmental bitch here.

You don't understand why ?
Well be because we all enjoy different things .
I'm not a fan of McDonald's either but so what .

EvilHerbivore · 07/08/2020 21:25

I am a LP and when I had a gallbladder issue (ended up needing emergency surgery) earlier this year, I ordered in take-out for pretty much every meal for my kids for about a week
I was the only adult in the house and was writhing in pain, eating codeine like sweets and spewing luminous green stuff every few minutes so my only thought was to get the kids food somehow - what the neighbours thought was the least of my concerns!
You just don't know what other people are going through

Lumisade · 07/08/2020 21:26

If I were your neighbour and I'd noticed you curtain twitching I'd bring all my food home in McDonalds bags just to wind you up.

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 21:26

@TheAquaticDuchess I've honestly only noticed it this week 🤷‍♀️

Also, I do know quite a bit about them, and the kids don't have additional needs etc. They all just like a mcdonalds for their dinner/tea/supper

The oven may have packed in this week? The McDonald's might be for the parents while the DC starve? Who knows.

bookmum08 · 07/08/2020 21:28

Yes terrible. They could at least have a bit of variety and go to KFC once in while.
Or even Greggs.
Grin
By the way this week I have had a Burger King (well actually last Friday) and a McDonalds. My daughter has had the same plus a KFC.
We have had other food too. Pasta, Fruit, Sandwiches, Bacon. Loads I can't even remember. I did have some slightly stale corn flakes.

AnotherEmma · 07/08/2020 21:28

I am partial to the occasional McDonald's, I can't stand the snobbery about it on Mumsnet, but I do agree that 4 times a week is excessive. Perhaps the parents are struggling, could be a lot of reasons why they're getting McDonald's so often (money issues, mental health / motivation issues, struggling with children who are fussy eaters) so maybe don't jump to the conclusion that they're just lazy pigs! And even if they are - live and let live. It's not ideal but it's not the end of the world.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 07/08/2020 21:28

Mmmm mcdonalds 😋

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 07/08/2020 21:29

It's half price at the moment if you go inside to order I think, which makes happy meals 1.25 (ish) so yabu to judge because they may be hard up and for a meal just over £1 is very cheap.

caringcarer · 07/08/2020 21:29

Well I feel sorry for the kids being fed junk food that often. Let's hope they also eat plenty of fruit and veg.

AnotherEmma · 07/08/2020 21:30

Is it not half price if you get drive-thru, then?

pollylocketpickedapocket · 07/08/2020 21:31

@Titsywoo

Mind your own business curtain-twitcher
Yep
1Morewineplease · 07/08/2020 21:32

Yes, I’d feel sorry for the children.
Obesity and clogged arteries is what they’re heading for.

pollylocketpickedapocket · 07/08/2020 21:32

@FourEyedFreak13

Hahaha was hoping for a nice laugh at this. Thanks. I'm not even a curtain twitcher, I'm literally just watching TV and the dog barks so I look out and see them.

I don't mean disgusting definitely too strong a word but I couldn't think of a better one for the title. I just don't understand how anyone can possibly enjoy McDonald's that much

Well then don't you eat it.
FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 21:32

It's only half price Monday-Wednesday and it's eat in only

TheAquaticDuchess · 07/08/2020 21:32

I've honestly only noticed it this week

Then maybe have the generosity to consider that this is an unusual week where they’re making the best decisions they can.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 07/08/2020 21:33

@anotheremma I don't think so, it's part of the eat out thing. AFAIK you can still take the food out though!

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 07/08/2020 21:34

You know quite a bit about the offer op to say you hate mcds!

AnotherEmma · 07/08/2020 21:34

OK so Mon-Wed, go inside to buy it
Thu-Sun, I can be full on lazy pig and stay in my car to buy it Grin

AnotherEmma · 07/08/2020 21:34

🤣
Grapewrath · 07/08/2020 21:35

Maybe it’s cheap to feed their kids Mac ids because of the half price eating out thing. Maybe they’re making the most of that of money is tight?
Maybe they’ve suffered bereavement
Maybe they are unwell or having a mental health crisis
Maybe they’ve had a diagnosis of long term illness
Maybe one of the DC has been ill and they are trying to tempt them with high calorie junk food in a bid to get some food in them
Non of this is disgusting or any of your business

NoKnit · 07/08/2020 21:35

It's the school holidays

Perhaps the kids are usually on holiday by a nice beach and able to relax and eat junk /drink too much sugar but can't due to virus and are disappointed so they are having more treat dinners than usual.

Yes if it was happening literally for months on end I'd find it bad but really during the school holidays in these hot temperatures it's acceptable.

Get off your high horse

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 21:35

I even said in my OP I eat McDonald's now and again. I just though 4 days in a week was excessive especially for young children. I don't care really, I just thought it a bit weird. Also I'm not usually here during the day so I'm only noticing this week, though another neighbour did say they do it often and have done even pre-lockdown

OP posts:
enjoyingscience · 07/08/2020 21:35

This place is so weird. If you asked if it was ok to give your kid a jam sandwich for lunch you’d get jumped, but apparently McDonald’s four times a week is a-ok.
