AIBU to think letting your kids eat McDonald's with you at least 4 times a week is disgusting?

Just that basically. I've recently noticed since lockdown has been lifted a neighbour heading out almost every night (sometimes afternoon) with their kids and coming back a short time later with McDonald's. It's been at least 4 times this week that I've. Noticed, I only noticed cause our dog is always sitting on the back of the sofa looking out the window and barks when the neighbours leave/come back. The kids are in and around the age of 7/8 (or there abouts) they did this pre-lockdown too, though.

I will add I am under no circumstances a Saint or healthy eater, I do eat takeaways, McDonald's etc. And feel bad judging but I feel like this is an awful way to feed your young kids especially at 9pm at night. So yeah AIBU? Happy to be called a judgmental bitch here.

@Illuyanka it's not like I'm getting up and walking to the window and spying out. As I've said previously I just happened to have been sitting on the sofa watching TV, dog barks/makes a noise, I turn round to say its okay and happen to see the street

@tinseltitsandlittlegits no you're not, and I have in previous posts apologised for the use of the word disgusting.

I just thought it excessive. However if you or your children have a reason and that's all you/they will eat then fair enough. I just know these people and know the kids have no food issues. We've had street parties etc. And the kids have a eaten all sorts of different things at those.

I never understand threads like these.

You know full well that it's not healthy to est McDonalds 4 times a week so don't pretend you're "curious as to what people think." What you actually want is people to agree with you and talk about what bad parents your neighbours are.

If you weren't bothered what they eat you wouldn't have started a thread in the first place. You just want to sit there judging.

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 22:48

@waxonwaxoff0 as it happens I don't think they're shit parents at all.

If they're scoffing a ton of fries and McFlurries, that's not a great diet. But, side salad (with balsamic dressing) plus cheeseburger is comfortably under 350 calories - with room for tea/coffee or diet soda. I wouldn't feed my kids McDonald's 4 times a week because they'd want fries every time. But, if you don't eat fries all the time then McDonald's food could be as healthy as any other food. It's not like people don't buy chocolate bars and calorific ready meals at the supermarket. The source of the food doesn't determine the healthiness - it's what you choose from the available options.

Purpleartichoke · 07/08/2020 22:54

Op, you don’t actually know there are no issues. Few people know my dd’s diagnosis. She has gotten very good at hiding her reality from prying eyes. She knows at picnics to put a variety of things on her plate and move them around so people will think she is eating when in reality we fed her before and then she will hopefully find some bread or a dessert that she wants to eat.

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 22:59

@purpleartichoke I understand that and if that's the case I 100% take back what I've said

Hey we all judge so I’m not judging you for judging!!!
(that makes f’all sense). Yep, McDonalds is trash. Once a week maybe, but four times a week is setting them up for a life time of shit eating habits and health problems. It’s poor parenting.

Happymum12345 · 07/08/2020 23:00

4 time’s a week, every week, is a lot of McDonald’s. Everyone knows it’s not the healthiest food to eat so I would try not to judge as there could be a reason for eating there so often.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 07/08/2020 23:03

Better McDonald's than those cheap crappy Pizza places loaded full of fat and grease and shite.

Exactly. Starting a thread about your neighbours is not just asking an innocent question.
tillyandmilly · 07/08/2020 23:03

yuk mcdonalds - poor kids - full of sugar - lazy parenting if eating all the time! I would never eat there!

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 23:03

@cam77 😂 thank you. Though for all I know it could just be the parents eating it and the kids are just getting the drink/mcflurry 🤷‍♀️

We have eaten so much McDonald's since it reopened. Dc are horse mad and I was lucky enough to secure shares in 2 ponies during lockdown. We've been spending hours at the yard and after riding, pampering, mucking out, maintaining paddocks they've been running around playing with the other kids on the yard. Both have learned to ride at a level that wound normally take a couple of years. Even though we pack healthy food and fruit it's been long gone and McDonald's drive through happens to be on the way home so that when we get back late they are ready to just throw in the shower and go to bed. We take the rubbish in from the car in the M bag so could well be being judged by the neighbours who don't have a clue of the hours of fun, fresh air and exercise they've had and what else they've eaten in the day!

Cam77 · 07/08/2020 23:06

@laudete
“But, if you don't eat fries all the time then McDonald's food could be as healthy as any other food“
Er, nah. It’s processed junk. The “healthy” options are “passable”. There’s a reason Britain has a massive obesity problem. Too much salt, too much sugar, too much processed food. I actually blame the food environment/food culture more than any individual, but let’s call a spade a spade. I scoffed half a big chocolate cake yesterday and it was a great five minutes but consuming vast quantities of sugar is madly unhealthy. Not only physically but a crap diet also severely affects kids education.

All dogs bark when they see/hear people
Nope.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 07/08/2020 23:10

I'm not sure I want a dude salad?
(Poster on page 4.)

jackdawdawn · 07/08/2020 23:10

How do you know it's a full meal? They might just be getting coffees or milkshakes, or icecream for treats (not much else to do). If the children look healthy and well cared for it's of little concern. If they are pasty-faced obese wrecks then you do have a point. But the main thing I wonder when I read these posts is how people like Dennis Nielson and Fred West managed to murder and bury so many victims in their gardens and none of their neighbours noticed.

Cam77 · 07/08/2020 23:10

Watch “Supersize Me”.
As a v. occasional McDonalds eater (once or twice a year) I think people who eat it or similar) frequently have physically tuned out to just how terrible it is. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the 10 minutes of munching - gurgling down fifteen teaspoons of sugar and munching down about five teaspoons of salt. But I then have to spend the next two hours necking about five bottles of water to rehydrate myself. It’s like an instantaneous hangover!

DotForShort · 07/08/2020 23:13

The horror, the horror.

🙄

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 23:13

@jackdawdawn I've said a few times for all I know the kids could just be getting the ice cream and drinks while the parents are eating the food

OP posts:
imissthesouth · 07/08/2020 23:13

YANBU to think it's disgusting, it is, I wouldn't feed that crap to anything. YABU to judge someone on what they feed there kids though. Are the children overweight?

FourEyedFreak13 · 07/08/2020 23:14

@cam77 I've actually had one today and haven't stopped downing water since

OP posts:
MadameMeursault · 07/08/2020 23:15

OP why the backtracking just because people had a go at you? It is disgusting and I would judge too. And if they’ve got SN and it’s all they will eat - well they must have been given it at some point in the past to get a taste for it mustn’t they? I also wouldn’t feed it to a dog, and I don’t even like dogs.
