Eating out? Is it me

Ok am I being uptight or is it perfectly reasonable to still not want to eat out.

You need a mask in Asda but not in a cafe that’s half the size.. the tables aren’t all distanced and I’ve seen places that don’t clean. What are they cleaning with? Toddler gives me the fear cause everything is licked so I wouldn’t want him licking bleach.

A few weeks ago we were to stay in and avoid each other now it’s ok to pop for a pub lunch.

MIL has a milestone coming, not major, and wants us all to go out to eat.. I’ve said no offered to do something at home, atleast then I know anything the toddler licks is clean.. menus are limited dh is fussy and me and the kids have allergies so we’d be having a plain dry baked potato Envy if we went. But I really don’t feel comfortable. Latest idea was leaving me and the youngest home still taking the licker with them I still said no. It’s been the conversation every night for a fort night.

Am I mad? Is everyone just back to normal now? Would you take small children out to eat at the mo?

We went out with our 3year old and 4 year old whilst away for our anniversary. It was fine. I checked reviews of places first and many people had left useful reviews during covid-19. If I felt the cleaning in between customers wasn't to scratch I would leave and try elsewhere. In one establishment temperature checks were taken, adults asked to wear masks as they moved inbetween different part of the tearoom but could obviously take them off to eat. If we are to get this sector moving again then it is about doing so safely.

I can understand that your mil might want a treat but of course you can choose not to attend. For your child that kicks things I would always keep antibacterial wipes in my bag and wipe before and after. My ds doesn't lick stuff whilst out but he will touch everything so the wipes are a must for me.

@osirus not sure why my comment has received some attitude. And no it isn't easy to think of a few reasons when you've never experienced a child who acts like that. I don't know anyone with these types of sensory issues. I meant no disrespect with my question so am a bit taken back by the snappy reactions Confused can't ask anything these days without offending someone it seems.

OP @Lunafortheloveogod apologies if my question offended you - that was not my intention.

You received ‘attitude’ because the OP addressed it in her posts. Even if you don’t have time to read the whole thread, it’s generally polite to at least read the OP’s posts.

@Drivingdownthe101 I'm not getting into any internet arguments. I've apologised to the OP.

You asked why you got ‘attitude’ and I told you, that’s not arguing, it’s conversation Grin.

I would be really surprised if the venue didn’t cater to the OP’s allergies, most places are crying out for business right now

I wouldn't.

Most of the chains get their food in prepackaged units and have reduced menus. Of the chains around here their statements on reduced menus include being unable to adjust for special diets in the usual way.

The mid-range to good independents are also operating on a much reduced menu, in some cases buying in where they normally wouldn't, in order to reduce food handling and costs.

The more commonly catered allergies such as dairy might be covered within that restricted menu but a combination certainly wouldn't be covered.
