You know when you read an OP and there are pages of replies?

Go the bottom left of the OP box and you'll see this;
OP’s posts: See next | See all

Click on see all, and you'll find out what's happened since the OP first posted. That will save you giving the same advice that 200 people have already given, that the OP has already taken, and which has long since superseded by further events. Then you won't look so stupid. You can thank me later.

Grin Good try but I think people will still comment without reading. I don’t know why they do it. Do they honestly think they’re going to say something that hasn’t been said in the previous 500 posts? Lol

CrotchetyQuaver · 06/08/2020 08:57

nope i don't see any of that on my ipad/iphone but thanks for the helpful tip

expectingno2soon · 06/08/2020 08:57

If you use the app you don't get that option.

bestbefore · 06/08/2020 09:00

You get a little funnel icon at the top on the app

Anniegetyourgun · 06/08/2020 09:00

I think you can still highlight OP's posts though, and scroll through looking for them?

Or just, you know, cancel the cheque.

I asked the question in a thread and was told it’s because folks like doing it and it was no skin off my nose, If they didn’t read the thread and just kept adding more and more comments/advice then it just makes them seem stupid anyway

TheMumblesofMumbledom · 06/08/2020 09:02

It's a very new feature so many won't even know it exists yet.

SnuggyBuggy · 06/08/2020 09:02

111 now!

How strange. I see it on my iPad and iPhone. Perhaps something in your settings somewhere
LittleBearPad · 06/08/2020 09:11

It’s definitely there on an iPhone.

I'm on the app on an iPhone and it isn't there...

I have found my hero @saraclara

It is. Swipe right, press the funnel...
hammie46i · 06/08/2020 09:32

When I did a post recently, many people who responded with advice didn't actually read to the end of the post. It was still useful though.

lottiegarbanzo · 06/08/2020 09:42

The 'highlight OP's posts' (and highlight your own, in a different colour) options have existed since I joined MN 8+ years ago. You had to go into 'account settings' and do it manually.

People give quick answers because they don't have time, or don't want to wade through hundreds of posts. Because they want to answer OP's question but not engage with other posters. Because maybe one more post in agreement / disagreement with OP adds to the weight of comments on one side of the thread. Because they expect the OP to express themselves clearly in their OP, so that answers to that question are relevant and useful.

I know what you mean OP but I am also in sympathy with those posters.

jessstan2 · 06/08/2020 09:53

Good post, saraclara.

JulesCobb · 06/08/2020 09:55

No! YABU! I dont care the situation has already been resolved! I want to add my wise words regardless!

Thank you!

If only some people took the time to read some of the replies though...

BigBadVoodooHat · 06/08/2020 09:59

Do they honestly think they’re going to say something that hasn’t been said in the previous 500 posts?

Yes, they think they're a stone-cold genius and only they have the intellectual prowess and laser-sharp insight to come up with the exact right thing to say to resolve the issue once and for all.

Even though 400 other people have already said it, and the OP resolved the issue 16 pages earlier in the thread.

I always wonder what it must be like working with these people Grin

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2020 10:02

It always makes me laugh when someone says I'm going to go against the grain here and then posts something 100 people before them have already said Grin

Iwalkinmyclothing · 06/08/2020 10:08

I think you over estimate how much most people care about whether or not others think they look stupid on MN.

BigBadVoodooHat · 06/08/2020 10:09

If only some people took the time to read some of the replies though...

Or to look at the date ~ people are still giving advice on the bloody carpet thread from 2012! Grin

Artus · 06/08/2020 10:12

I'm on the app on android and although the OPs posts are in a different colour I dont have the new function to see all posts. If I log in via Google I do. Swiping in any direction makes no difference.
