You know when you read an OP and there are pages of replies?

Go the bottom left of the OP box and you'll see this;
OP’s posts: See next | See all

Click on see all, and you'll find out what's happened since the OP first posted. That will save you giving the same advice that 200 people have already given, that the OP has already taken, and which has long since superseded by further events. Then you won't look so stupid. You can thank me later.

Can I add that if you are too lazy/full of yourself to read anything other than the initial OP, if you at least glance at the post immediately above your desperately important response you may realise that you are giving advice about something that happened YEARS ago.

[quote chomalungma]People give quick answers because they don't have time, or don't want to wade through hundreds of posts

If only some people took the time to read some of the replies though...

Sounds good! I’ve been wondering about that thread in active

lottiegarbanzo · 06/08/2020 10:21

Well I'm going to go against the grain here... no honestly, I am!

I quite like posting my knee-jerk, pre-reflective thought first. Then reading through and modifying or developing it in light of OP and others' discussion.

There's often something in the OP that prompts a particular feeling or insight. Often it's borne out by subsequent posts. Sometimes it isn't picked up on by others and the discussion goes another way. In those cases especially, it would be easy to be sidetracked, get caught up in detail, to doubt myself or the relevance of my observation, or my willingness to be derided by other posters, after reading the discussion. Yet my initial impression could still be helpful to the OP.

LuluLala2 · 06/08/2020 10:22

Just that? I thought it was going to be a juicy interesting post. Oh well.

saraclara · 06/08/2020 10:25

People give quick answers because they don't have time, or don't want to wade through hundreds of posts

But that's the whole point of my OP, @lottiegarbanzo! If you click 'see all' of OP's posts, you only get updates from the OP and you don't HAVE to wade through hundreds of posts!

@TheMumblesofMumbledom

It's a very new feature so many won't even know it exists yet.
Which is the point of my Public Service Announcement! To educate and inform!

But has she had her carpet fitted yet????

(That thread makes me laugh so much, and I love seeing all my different user names on there))

lottiegarbanzo · 06/08/2020 10:28

But see my subsequent post and its development of my point saraclara Grin

drumandthebass · 06/08/2020 10:28

Thank you @AdobeWanKenobi - I've had the app on my phone for years and had never noticed the funnel. What a game changer! Grin

BlastEndedSkrewt · 06/08/2020 10:29

I'm viewing on a pc but when I click SeeAll i'm informed this is a Premium feature & I need to subscribe for it to work

Maybe fact checking should be up there with reading posts Wink

saraclara · 06/08/2020 10:30

Thanks to the app users who've contributed the extra info on how to do it in the app, btw. You've educated and informed me (if I ever get round to downloading the app)

I'm not a premium member. That's odd.

I'm on a PC too and I get nothing about premium when I click 'see all'. All I get is all of the OP's posts. I'm not a premium subscriber.

mum2jakie · 06/08/2020 10:32

Works for me on phone. Thanks OP 👍

user1471517900 · 06/08/2020 10:34

Good try but I think people will still comment without reading. I don’t know why they do it. Do they honestly think they’re going to say something that hasn’t been said in the previous 500 posts? Lol

Eeeeeeeok · 06/08/2020 10:35

I really like this feature! Glad it was introduced

oakleaffy · 06/08/2020 10:39

@JulesCobb
Lol! me too...My pearls of wisdom that will solve OP'd dilemma even if 600 others have said the self same thing.😂

lottiegarbanzo · 06/08/2020 10:40

And yes, in the 'old style highlight' version you do have to scroll.

I do often do that; just scroll through and read the OP's posts only, before responding. To check whether my knee-jerk response to the OP still has some relevance.

Just checked. It's not a Premium feature. Here is the thread where MNHQ explains how to use it.

Who cares what anyone thinks of you on MN? Confused

lottiegarbanzo · 06/08/2020 10:47

Well yes, exactly. MN is the opposite of 'public'.

The reason not to do this, is so as not to piss off other posters (those who choose to get worked up about this sort of thing). That's a very different motivation!

EBearhug · 06/08/2020 10:53

I was going to say, I'm not a premium member, but I can see it PC and laptop.

If it's a long thread, often I just think, I can't be bothered. But if I can, I will usually at least read the first and last page and the OP's posts, which usually confirms I have nothing more to add.

lottiegarbanzo · 06/08/2020 10:54

Thus, one could get a little over-earnest and tediously over-invested (as I am wont to do) and suggest that OP's title is an attempt to manipulate others' behaviour to suit her, through the use of shame. 'Post shaming'.

...Which could only work, if people really cared about their username's 'reputation' on MN.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/08/2020 11:11

I really don't mind the repeated advice ones, because sometimes people just want to be heard. No, the mouth frothers who skim read the Op, get the total wrong end of the stick and then go in for the kill regardless - they're the most stupidest people out there and they won't be told.

bishopgiggles · 06/08/2020 11:14

NRTFT but did you know you can see all of OP's posts in one place by clicking 'see all'?

Just thought I'd post that to be helpful without seeing what anyone else has posted! Placemarking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grin

OP it was bad enough when people didn't read the full F thread or at least OP's posts which are helpfully highlighted so you can work out whether the DH who was arrested two weeks ago is, in fact, now home, but now there's no excuse and people who clearly haven't read OP's posts should be shunned. SHUNNED!

(Btw - did you know you can click 'watch thread' instead of filling up a thread with 'placemarking' posts or the classic '.' ?)
