Aibu to expect a refund for (suspected) unauthentic does get purse?

I bid on and won a mulberry purse on eBay item arrived- it was listed as used. This purse did not look used. It looked brand new! Not a single mark, smelled new and still had a piece of cardboard in one of the flaps.
Contacted seller, expressed my concern that it was not used and therefore the price did not reflect a genuine new item. Asked her to confirm is it was authentic. She did.

Took my new purse our shipping today- went into 2 shops and purchased items. I noticed some scuffing and wear and tear in the corners. This does not seem to be standard of the quality on mulberry. Messaged seller with pictures and said that this confirmed to me that item was not authentic and request I return purse for a refund.

Seller has refused and stated that I have not taken care of the purse and they will not be giving me a Refund. I’ve had the purse 2 days, been in 2 shops and stored it in my handbag. I’d hardly say that is not caring for the product.

Aibu?
Yes- you are BU and should not expect a refund for a purse you have used (for 2 days)
No- you are NBU the purse it clearly not authentic and seller should accept return/ refund.

I’ve attached pictures of the damage.

I wouldn’t think that was genuine. She’s not prepared to rectify, so I’d go straight to ebay.

How much did you pay?

MrsHarveySpecterV · 05/08/2020 18:07

It doesn't look authentic to me. The leather doesn't look good enough. However I dont know what you can do because I never use ebay. Hopefully another poster will have some ebay advice.

Rover83 · 05/08/2020 18:07

I think the decision depends on how much you paid for it and whether you think you would be able to prove that it is not genuine. Normally once you've used it you cant return but if you could prove it was fake and prove they sold you a genuine product then you may be able to get your money back

Confused
RHRA · 05/08/2020 18:09

Depends how much it cost really.

Golfinches · 05/08/2020 18:09

I've had a mulberry purse fray like that at the ages - but after a year of continuous use. I think it looks fake - can you take it to a mulberry store or send them a picture in social media to confirm?

Laaalaaaa · 05/08/2020 18:10

How much did you pay? That looks nothing like any style of Mulberry purse that I’ve seen before. Sometimes, you also need to take a bit of responsibility for things you buy online.

JustOneMoreStep · 05/08/2020 18:10

I think if you had followed your instinct and asked for the refund when it first arrived it would have been fair enough but I think its more difficult to request a refund when you have used it even if its only 2 days.

CuppaZa · 05/08/2020 18:11

It is counterfeit. Report to eBay.

ZaraW · 05/08/2020 18:11

Post it on the FB buying/selling Mulberry group. They should be able to tell you. It does look fake. How much did you pay?

Did the item you bid on show it had been used?

Serialcatmum · 05/08/2020 18:13

Sorry should have included- I pod £83 standard really for a used mulberry purse.

I don’t have a shop in my town/ not even the next town and I’d really prefer to not have to go to a shopping centre. The thought of asking them to clarify if it was genuine fills me full of dread!!!

OP posts:
ZaraW · 05/08/2020 18:13

Also, why did you use it, if you thought it was a fake?

Hopoindown31 · 05/08/2020 18:13

Report to eBay. Counterfeit missold.

TremoloGreen · 05/08/2020 18:14

Looks fake. Raise a dispute through the eBay customer center or paypal, its easy to do and they nearly always take the buyers side, this is an open and shut case looking at the product. Leather looks cheap, stitching is massive, the buckle is the wrong colour and scuffed instantly.

Luckyonetwo · 05/08/2020 18:16

My mulberry purse is still as good as new 4 years later. It has had a fair hammering too. Report to ebay.

Serialcatmum · 05/08/2020 18:20

@ZaraW (and other asking- sorry can’t flick back!)

I thought it might be fake.. questioned the seller and she confirmed it was authentic and where she purchased it from (Heathrow) so assumed it must be real. Didn’t think for one minute I’d use it and the colour/ leather would scuff off the corners on its first trip out the house.

Set up a return request with ebay under “item not as described” if the seller confirmed it’s not genuine ebay will side with you. The seller will have to send you a label, you return the item and they’ll refund you.

Serialcatmum · 05/08/2020 18:22

@Laaalaaaa yep I defo need to take some responsibility. I admit it’s the first time
I’ve been in a position to buy myself a “posh” purse. Even if I could only afford second hand!

This may be an expensive lesson that I end up taking on the chin! You learn from your mistakes I guess 😬

I buy and sell regularly on eBay so I would strongly advise you to raise a case against this seller.

Is there anyway you can get to a Mulberry store or a Mulberry outlet / concession and have them authenticate it for you? Ditto with the Purse Forum members, they have dedicated Mulberry authenticators. I've owned a few Mulberry items and this level of wear and tear should never happen in two days!

Can you see if this seller is selling any further items on their listings? If there are more listings and they look dodgy you can 'Report' each one.

Happy to help further, if I can.

Oneandabean · 05/08/2020 18:32

I’ve had an issue with fake goods before. Contacted eBay immediately and they said I would have to prove it was fake. The only way to do that was to send item to genuine manufacturers to get proof. Wasn’t worth the effort. That was a few years ago though so might not be such a pain now

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/08/2020 18:32

It does look fake, raise a dispute.

Please never buy designer goods from Ebay. They're usually fake. No one would sell a genuine Mulberry purse for that cheap. There are websites where you can buy genuine second hand designer goods that have authentication certificates.

Serialcatmum · 05/08/2020 18:36

Thanks for not totally ripping me to pieces everyone!

Won’t be buying a purse from there again. Will look out for genuine websites..

I’ve opened a dispute and asked to join a Facebook group that may be able to help identify if the purse it authentic.

Thanks for the advice x

Thanks @GenXer. She’s got 100%positive feedback and although she has 2 other designer bags on there they aren’t mulberry.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 05/08/2020 18:47

There are 2 things on that purse that suggests to me it's not genuine. If you want to pm me I can tell you what they are and how I know.

sammylady37 · 05/08/2020 18:50

I’ve never seen a mulberry purse that style, with the bow on the front. I think it’s fake.
