Aibu to expect a refund for (suspected) unauthentic does get purse?

I bid on and won a mulberry purse on eBay item arrived- it was listed as used. This purse did not look used. It looked brand new! Not a single mark, smelled new and still had a piece of cardboard in one of the flaps.
Contacted seller, expressed my concern that it was not used and therefore the price did not reflect a genuine new item. Asked her to confirm is it was authentic. She did.

Took my new purse our shipping today- went into 2 shops and purchased items. I noticed some scuffing and wear and tear in the corners. This does not seem to be standard of the quality on mulberry. Messaged seller with pictures and said that this confirmed to me that item was not authentic and request I return purse for a refund.

Seller has refused and stated that I have not taken care of the purse and they will not be giving me a Refund. I’ve had the purse 2 days, been in 2 shops and stored it in my handbag. I’d hardly say that is not caring for the product.

Aibu?
Yes- you are BU and should not expect a refund for a purse you have used (for 2 days)
No- you are NBU the purse it clearly not authentic and seller should accept return/ refund.

I’ve attached pictures of the damage.

It's fake. You can tell by the logo.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 05/08/2020 19:01

I've replied to your PM.

pressed too soon.

I hope the info I've given helps.

My Mulberry bag is scuffed on the corners, but that's after 4 years of continuous daily use. It certainly wouldn't happen after only 2 days

Sexnotgender · 05/08/2020 19:06

@Laaalaaaa

How much did you pay? That looks nothing like any style of Mulberry purse that I’ve seen before. Sometimes, you also need to take a bit of responsibility for things you buy online.
It’s definitely a style they did. Can’t remember if it came in that colour though.

The mulberry purse with a bow on is a genuine mulberry design. I have this one in hot pink from 5 years ago From Selfridges and it’s been battered around and is still in good condition! (It needs a clean). I can send you pics if you like to see if yours matches up?

I have a now very very old Mulberry purse that I use for my everyday purse and although it’s now starting to show signs of wear it’s nothing like as bad as that. Sorry, doesn’t look genuine to me. 😞

Sexnotgender · 05/08/2020 19:09

@sammylady37

I’ve never seen a mulberry purse that style, with the bow on the front. I think it’s fake.
Mulberry absolutely did make a bow purse. This is a photo from a reputable seller.

@trappedsincesundaymorn

There are 2 things on that purse that suggests to me it's not genuine. If you want to pm me I can tell you what they are and how I know.
Could you say on here? I’m nosey. I doubt fake purse makers will change their methods based on your comments. There are many forums giving similar tips about how to spot fakes.
Sexnotgender · 05/08/2020 19:10

OP can you post photos of the inside of the purse?

Justanother123 · 05/08/2020 19:11

This is the two logos on mine, the logo on the plaque and the other one is under the flap inside.

That's market tat.

nancybotwinbloom · 05/08/2020 19:13

You can contact mulberry direct for help with this.

Does the purse have a tag inside like what the bags have?

I have a Bayswater bought from an outlet mulberry.

It doesn't have the little gold tag inside. I know it's real as i bought it myself in the shop.

Usually the stitching gives it away. A genuine mulberry, all of the stiches are exactly
The same size.

Cassilis · 05/08/2020 19:15

yikes mine was €5 from the market and has worn better after a year.

As @TremoloGreen green says. If you think it's fake [and whether it is or not] open a case with eBay for "not as described" if you are within 30 days and with Paypal if within 180 days. Escalate after 8 days [eBay] and 2 days [Paypal]. Do not get into discussion with the seller.

ShirleyPhallus · 05/08/2020 19:16

Sorry OP but that’s so obviously fake, definitely raise a dispute with eBay

trappedsincesundaymorn · 05/08/2020 19:16

GreyishDays

There are 2 obvious faults to do with the appearance (I was recently made redundant from Mulberry which is how I know). I don't want to say on here what they are as they can be easily rectified and having lost my job due (in part), to fakes and poor quality I'm not giving any tips as to how these things can be made better.

honeygirlz · 05/08/2020 19:17

I thought it might be fake.. questioned the seller and she confirmed it was authentic and where she purchased it from (Heathrow) so assumed it must be real. Didn’t think for one minute I’d use it and the colour/ leather would scuff off the corners on its first trip out the house.

convenient that it's in duty free so you can't pop along if you're anywhere near heathrow

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 05/08/2020 19:17

There are an awful lot of Mulberry fakes out there - it's one of the most copied brands. I would raise a case on Ebay, you'll probably get your money back. If buying second-hand in future I'd recommend a site like Vestiaire Collective that verifies the item for you. It tends to be a bit more expensive than ebay but a bit less risky.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/08/2020 19:18

So first you thought it didn't look used enough and then that it was badly used? I would not buy used “designer” off eBay - most of the time they’re knock offs.

I’ve seen fakes on Vestaire.

I only buy second hand from either naughtipidgensnest or labels most wanted.

honeygirlz · 05/08/2020 19:20

is it possible it's genuine and she coated it in something to temporarily disguise the scuffs?

ireallyamthewalrus · 05/08/2020 19:24

If she agrees you can return it (and I expect she will as eBay will force her to otherwise) make sure she sends you a returns label so it is tracked back to her. That way you don’t pay postage and you’ll know it’s got there. Otherwise you’ll pay to post an item back that mysteriously never arrives.

Blownaway1 · 05/08/2020 19:27

I’d raise it with eBay and in the meantime message the seller and say you’re going to get it verified at a mulberry shop. She may panic and offer the refund.

CorianderLord · 05/08/2020 19:33

Can you go to a mulberry counter and ask if they will confirm it's not real?
