Aibu to expect a refund for (suspected) unauthentic does get purse?

I bid on and won a mulberry purse on eBay item arrived- it was listed as used. This purse did not look used. It looked brand new! Not a single mark, smelled new and still had a piece of cardboard in one of the flaps.
Contacted seller, expressed my concern that it was not used and therefore the price did not reflect a genuine new item. Asked her to confirm is it was authentic. She did.

Took my new purse our shipping today- went into 2 shops and purchased items. I noticed some scuffing and wear and tear in the corners. This does not seem to be standard of the quality on mulberry. Messaged seller with pictures and said that this confirmed to me that item was not authentic and request I return purse for a refund.

Seller has refused and stated that I have not taken care of the purse and they will not be giving me a Refund. I’ve had the purse 2 days, been in 2 shops and stored it in my handbag. I’d hardly say that is not caring for the product.

Aibu?
Yes- you are BU and should not expect a refund for a purse you have used (for 2 days)
No- you are NBU the purse it clearly not authentic and seller should accept return/ refund.

I’ve attached pictures of the damage.

@Justanother123 these look identical to yours..

@Sexnotgender I’ve added a picture of the inside.

This design has definitely been around in a few years back. I can’t find it in this colour though- just hot pink!

Will have to wait to see what comes from eBay/ the Facebook groups now!

That's not genuine- I can tell you as an owner of many Mulberry handbags and purses. It looks cheap. Don't try to reach a resolution with the seller. Open a case with Ebay as 'counterfeit goods' and they'll ask you to keep/destroy the item and refund you.

Oldestchild90s · 05/08/2020 19:48

Call eBay, they are very very helpful!

imissthesouth · 05/08/2020 19:49

Definitely doesn't look genuine, rather than contact the stellar report directly to eBay and they'll process a refund. Unfortunately there's many scammers on eBay and you have to be so careful. Luckily they're quite good with refunds. Did you use a credit card to pay? Or Paypal etc?

Coldspringharbour · 05/08/2020 19:49

The dirty great big stitch in the bow next to the Mulberry plate should tell you it’s a snide item. Get yourself on the Mulberry pre loved FB page if you want a genuine pre loved item.

RiverMeadow · 05/08/2020 19:52

That is absolutely fake. I've not seen that mulberry purse before!

IndiaPlace · 05/08/2020 19:54

There is a big difference in the quality of the logo inside your purse and on the hot pink one. So much more detail on the hot pink purse.

@IndiaPlace actually yes you’re right.

I’m so cross with myself 😔

Frustrating- wanted one for ages. Couldn’t justify £300+ but was up for about £100.

Infuriating that I’ve been tricked to part with my cash.

The pink one looks more leathery and the Mulberry tree ‘holes’ look deeper.

ShastaBeast · 05/08/2020 20:06

The embossing inside isn’t very clear. I don’t have any purses but a couple of bags, both have tags with serial numbers, do the purses not have anything like this? Does it have the Made in Xxxx tag?

Serialcatmum · 05/08/2020 20:13

@ShastaBeast it’s my first purse so I’m not sure. It doesn’t have any labels or made in on it anywhere. It was purchased as used so I didn’t expect it to come with a label x

Can all the posters saying - I’ve not seen that purse before so it’s fake please stop. It’s absolutely a purse mulberry made. If you don’t know anything about the brand don’t weigh in with nonsense.

Sexnotgender · 05/08/2020 20:44

Well respected authentication service. m.authenticate4u.com/

WeeM · 05/08/2020 20:50

Once you get your money back you might be able to get yourself a genuine pre loved one from the Facebook group Grin

Sunrise234 · 05/08/2020 20:54

Do you think it’s possible it’s real but the seller somehow tidied it up and coloured it in so it looked in good condition and then it rubbed off a while later?
Even fake ones usually last a bit longer than one day.

AdobeWanKenobi · 05/08/2020 21:00

@trappedsincesundaymorn

There are 2 things on that purse that suggests to me it's not genuine. If you want to pm me I can tell you what they are and how I know.
Or, you could helpfully share your knowledge here so the next person reading this thread might get some use out of it?
Nowisthemonthofmaying · 05/08/2020 21:16

@Sexnotgender there are fakes listed on Vestiaire, yes, but that's because the verification process doesn't happen until you've bought something - then it goes to them before they send it on to the purchaser. I've had purchases cancelled by then a few times when the listing didn't match up to the item quality.

MrsPerfect12 · 05/08/2020 21:56

I have a bow purse. It's about 6 years old but from mulberry in Edinburgh so real!
Did the purse have fading/scuffing to the gold part on the bow when you got it?
I use my purse daily and that's only happened recently and I'm not careful.
My purse doesn't have a serial number that I've found. My bags do.
Also my mulberry embossing inside in probably not much clearer but my purse is black.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 05/08/2020 22:20

Sorry - absolutely a fake. The stitching on the bow makes it obvious, before you get to the other problems.

You need to file a dispute with eBay.

Good luck!

MrsPerfect12 · 05/08/2020 22:26

@RumpoleoftheBaileys my stitching of the bow is the exact same. How else would it hold the bow? This is not evidence of it being fake.
My main difference is my leather is smooth. But other colour may be different.
If you raise a complaint with eBay you have to prove via mulberry or whoever else and have written verification that it's fake or it won't be accepted. Does the seller have the receipt?

Serialcatmum · 05/08/2020 22:54

No seller does not have the receipt, box or label.

I have contacted a few companies that do authenticity checks and see what they say.

Might just have to take this on the chin as a lesson learnt and start saving up again.

I hate confrontation, feel pretty pissed off with myself about it and a bit stupid.

Really appreciate everyone’s feedback - it’s been a real eye opener. I know what to do differently next time I guess!!!
