And to be super nosy, what they were for.

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 03/08/2020 17:34

Zero. First time for my son was when he was 12 for an ear infection, and 13 for my daughter for strep throat.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 03/08/2020 17:36

Ds1 maybe once?
Ds2 around 3
Dd about 14 times

DariaMorgendorffer · 03/08/2020 17:37

Once, for tonsillitis

PaperMonster · 03/08/2020 17:38

Twice - once as a newborn for GBS and once as a toddler but I can’t remember why.

JuniperFather · 03/08/2020 17:39

YABU not to share more of why you want to know, and what your concerns are.

Perhaps something in your OP that explains how many times you've given them to your DCs, as I presume that's triggered the posting?

I won't share with someone who just randomly barks imperatives at me, without them sharing first.

Sirzy · 03/08/2020 17:40

He takes profalatic antibiotics 3 day a week.

On top of that he has had more doses than I can count mainly for chest infections but a couple of peg infections too

Flynn999 · 03/08/2020 17:41

Ds is only 4 and he’s had close To around 10? Separate prescriptions for antibiotics for persistent ear infections.

BoogleMcGroogle · 03/08/2020 17:41

DD is 11 and has never taken antibiotics.

DS is 9 and by the age of 2 had been put on prophylaxis as he'd had so many courses. Greatly improved when the tonsils went at 4, but he still needs a couple of courses a year for ear infections.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/08/2020 17:42

Twice each. Dd1 an eye infection post birth, then an infection aged 5.
Dd2 an injury , and peri-orbital cellulitis.

Bluntness100 · 03/08/2020 17:43

Constantly, she had chronic tonsillitis. To the stage it was literally every two weeks she was getting put on them before they took them out when she was about eight or nine,

BoogleMcGroogle · 03/08/2020 17:43

What they were for: tonsillitis, middle ear infections- three admissions with IV for more serious infections.

If you are concerned, we saw a paediatric immunologist who was very helpful.

mbosnz · 03/08/2020 17:44

Both of them were permanently on them from birth, until the age of 5, for kidney reflux. A very low dose, thankfully.

Both had them several times for ear infections, poor wee beggars.

CMOTDibbler · 03/08/2020 17:44

It felt like 15 squillion. Ds had them as a newborn as he had grunty breathing, then got a chest infection at 6 months and (as it turned out) collapsed part of his lung and got a deep seated infection behind it which took a lot to clear. I forget how many courses before he had 3 months continuous and other therapies. Then chest infections every winter till he was 7.
Nothing since apart from a course when he vomited for 5 weeks last year

CarrieBlue · 03/08/2020 17:45

DS13 - never
DD10 - once when she was 6 or 7

OddBoots · 03/08/2020 17:45

My eldest has his first antibiotics when he went away to university, his 17yo sister has never had them. I think we have been very lucky, I had them all the time as a child

Soubriquet · 03/08/2020 17:46

Dd has had it orally once as a baby and then once in an IV at 13 months

Ds had it at 2 when he had chickenpox

Pizzapromotion · 03/08/2020 17:48

None. DSs are 17 & 19yo. DS2 had some for an ingrown toenail last year, that's it

DS1 was a clumsy tot and we had a couple if trips to A&E when he was small but apart from that, when he was born, and occupational medicals, he's never actually seen a doctor. That's actually pretty amazing/lucky now I think of it.

cormorantes · 03/08/2020 17:48

For three children, I can only remember one course, for a skin infection, but I can't believe that was the only time . . . Possibly also following tonsillectomy?

veetala · 03/08/2020 17:48

My DD isn't even two and had already had at least 3 courses. First as a newborn with GBS sepsis. Then a chest infection around 2 months old. Then I'm sure there's been another course in between, then another course for Covid this year (I know antibiotics don't work for viruses, but they couldn't confirm it was Covid at the time and she was really unwell).

I would have said she's a healthy child too

AskingforaBaskin · 03/08/2020 17:49

Well my 1 year old has had 5 rounds of antibiotics. All for tonsillitis.

Minimum of 10 days mainly 2 weeks.

DS and DD have I think 3/4 in 7 and 4 years.

Yankathebear · 03/08/2020 17:50

Does it make me a bad parent that I can’t remember?
I remember the youngest had them once and had an allergic reaction ending in a hospital admission. Can’t remember the other dc so they can’t have been that unwell.

LetTheRiverAnswer · 03/08/2020 17:54

Eldest- lots. Premature birth, so some straight away as a precaution, then a few rounds while on NNU (3 different types simultaneously at one point as he has deteriorated fast and they needed to start treatment before swabs were back). He had a few more rounds as a young child as he was prone to chest infections, but that's improved with age. It's not ideal, but when you need them, you need them!
Younger two have never had them (age 7 and 10 now).

40somethingJBJ · 03/08/2020 17:56

Never. Ds is 14 and has never had any.

Coughsyrupsucks · 03/08/2020 17:57

Let’s see....12 hours old for Group B Strep, that was 10 days intravenously.

5 years old for a UTI and sepsis - also intravenous for a few days

4 or 5 more courses for various UTI’s

Maybe 1 for a strep throat.

Hardly any as a teen though.

thaegumathteth · 03/08/2020 17:58

Dd maybe 5 times for a UTI, scarlet fever and chest infections.

Ds absolutely loads. UTI and needed antibiotics for 4 months, loads of chest infections and pneumonia, ear infections.
